Beautiful setting on Lake Tjörnin. This a beautiful church was built in 1901 . The church was consecrated on 22 February 1903. Two years later the church was lengthened, to a design by architect Rognvaldur Olafsson. In 1924 the church was enlarged again. Nice historic church. So, if you have the time in Reykjavik go and see it.

A very picturesque, green and white Church, rises just by the Tjornin Lake in downtown Reykjavik. It's a Lutheran Church, but sadly not open when we passed by.
Best views are across the lake, from the (ugly) City Hall.

We walked around the large pond in the center of Reykjavík through a great park. On the other side we could see this church and walked to it through other various scenic gardens. It stood out in the area. Not open when we visited but was built in the 1840s and is beautifully maintained and pretty. Worth a photo stop and loved the building.

If you visit the Tjörnin pond, which i recommend you do if you like wildlife, then you will stumble across this beautiful church. We didn't go inside but walked around the surrounding area where you can see some wonderful sculptures.

This pretty Lutheran free church sits between Austurvöllur Square and Lake Tjörnin. It was designed by architect Rögnvaldur Ólafsson and consecrated in 1903 although it had been lengthened twice since.

It was very frustrating not being able to look around this beautiful church, as our hotel was literally 10 metres away, and we would pass it 4 or 5 times every day. The only time it was open was for a wedding.
Located between the Pond (Tjornin) and the Icelandic modern art exhibition, this is a picturesque church in a lovely setting.
Lovely century old Lutheran church with emerald green and white walls, and an intriguing interior, we think.

This is a stunningly beautiful picturesque church, located by the Tjörnin pond.
The church is over 110 years old, but it does not show its age and look quite modern, actually.
The church offers an amazing photo-op when standing near the city hall and taking panoramic photos of Tjörnin pond.

Beautiful church. There was a happy wedding on the steps. The car passing by honking to send greetings. Mr. G said it must be tourists. No Icelanders will do that. The newly weds obviously liked the nice surprise.

A beautiful Lutheran church in the heart of the old town of Reykjavik. It overlooks the Reykjavik pond and stands next to the Reykjavik Art Gallery in a very picturesque setting There are often events such as concerts and art exhibitions in the church that might be of interest. Well worth a visit.

This is a lovely little church that sits along the pond in downtown Reykjavik. I believe it's rarely open to visitors, but I had the opportunity to see a music performance there during Iceland Airwaves, and I can attest that it is also lovely inside! A really nice place, great for wandering around when exploring the city.
