We always make sure to visit museums and galleries whenever we visit new places, so of course The Culture House was on the list. Whilst there were a fair few floors to explore I can only say that the art itself was quite disappointing. Unfortunately there were only a few pieces that we liked (photos of these included) but overall, we weren’t very impressed with what was on offer. There are interactive pieces which are aimed towards children and would keep them busy, however, we did manage to get through the exhibition within half an hour. I wouldn’t say not to visit, it just wasn’t our cup of tea.

This is a small but interesting collection. I toured it as part of my 48-hour CityPass in Reykjavik, which a purchased online. The CityPass is well worth it, gaining admittance to several museums. If you find yourself stranded for a few days in Iceland's capital due to bad weather (as happened to me), there are lots of museums to occupy your time. This was my favorite art museum of the group.

We really enjoyed The Culture House. The museum currently features exhibits on air, water, and land with video and Icelandic art to accompany these themes. The docent suggested we start on the top floor and work our way down, which was a nice way to see the exhibits.

The building is beautiful, too. It was formerly used as the city's library and it still contains some of the original reading tables and chairs.

Plan on spending a couple of hours here, and then enjoy coffee and cake in the very pleasant cafe onsite.

I liked the collection, and how different elements of the earth (e.g., air, water) were divided according to floors. There are surprisingly many spaces with activities meant for children. However, the museum itself (while located in a very nice building) seems a bit forgotten, as if the 'new' museums in Reykjavik would have taken some concepts once densely combined in the Culture House, and extended them to make the visitor experience more comprehensive. By and large, it is worth a visit if you want to get a general understanding of the cultural life, values, and understanding of Icelanders.

It's an art museum that focuses on late 19th through 21st century Icelandic art. I decided that Icelandic art is not my cup of tea - I found it depressing, either the themes, or the execution, or both - but I am glad I explored it. Now I can name a couple artists (and before I visited, I've never heard of any).

I visited all 3 major art museums (National Gallery, Reykjavik Art Museum and Culture House) -- this was by far my favorite. This beautiful building dates to 1906-08 and was originally the city library. It is now an art museum, with something to suit everyone's taste in art. The other 2 museums focused mainly on modern/contemporary art.

This place mentioned in a couple tour books as an extension of national museum. On the day we entered, all the exhibition space was allocated to modern Icelandic art. If that's not a particular interest of yours (it was not of ours), your time may be better spent elsewhere. There may be a different exhibit at the time of your visit.

The building itself is attractive and used to serve as the public library (nice old reading room you can visit) and records office. The staff are very friendly.

Admission is covered if you buy the City Card for Reykjavik.

I was a little disappointed in this place. It's mostly art by Icelandic artists from the early 1900s to present. There really isn't much to see. I went through all the floors in less than an hour. I think people that are more into art would enjoy it. There were a few nice paintings, but otherwise it just wasn't very interesting to me.

The Culture House was included in the price of our entry to the National Museum and we almost didn't go. It would have been a real shame to have missed it as it is full of interesting art and written word. A concise exhibition drawn from Reykjavik's art gallery, archives, library and national museum, it is a collection of little gems that highlight Iceland's rich artistic and literary culture. The building is wonderful too and helps to create an intimate and inviting atmosphere. This little museum is definitely worth a visit!!

This small museum is located in a wonderful older library facility that has been converted to a museum. Your admission will also cover the National Museum so you get two for one. Wonderful small collection of Islandic Artists. Each room had a sort of theme that made your review easy and fun. Hope over to Rainbow Street when your done then the National Museum.
