Sometimes things that are completely outside of your control go wrong - it's how you respond that decides who's the best. I say Icebike Adventures are absolutely the best. I'd booked to ride the Lava Trails, and ended up grouped with a team who had...More

Hey folks. I'm fumbling through planning an Iceland tour for mid August 2016 for my girlfriend and I and hoped to include a couple days of mtn biking. We were going to motor home route 1 too. I'm an experienced biker, but my girlfriend just picked it up this season and has very strong legs, is pretty fearless, but has limited experience on technical stuff and won't enjoy any shear cliff drop offs on both sides of single track. So here goes a litany of questions. 1. I was thinking of flying my Pivot 29'r and her Santa Cruz Blur over, packing them in the motor home and trying to find trail heads that we could drive to with a local map that didn't require 4wd. Is that a fictional dream or is it feasible? The reason why we wouldn't invest up front in a fabulous tour is that she may balk after a 1st ride and not enjoy it then I'm out a lot of dosh. 2. Are there some can't miss trails to take that are accessible by motor home to the trail head that give those epic green, scenic views and aren't too technical? She rides single track, just not shear rock click technical stuff. We could drop off route 1 anywhere, so not just Reykjavik area. 3. How brutal is the weather on the trails in mid August? How clearly are the trails marked or do they disappear often into wilderness? 4. What would be a good bike rental shop there if transporting is a foolish idea? Thanks everyone! The pics looks amazing and I hope we can experience something similar.

Hey there, I'll take a swing at your questions: 1) I think you could totally go your own way, but you'll miss a lot/most of the good trails out there. So much of what is good that we saw in Iceland was in the highlands... More
