We have just had a fantastic few days with Marten as our guide in one of their Ford Explorer Superjeeps. The jeep made light work of the varied terrain we covered and Marten had expert local knowledge on all the areas we visited. He even knew the quieter ‘off the beaten track’ sights to see too. We started with a northern lights tour with Marten spotting early signs of activity and locating light free viewing areas. Marten also knew of many good and interesting eating places. We based ourselves for part of the trip at Hotel Rangá and Marten was their to pick us up each day and kept us occupied each day. A great few days in a fantastic and varied country with expert guiding and very competent driving from Marten. We’ll definitely be back and there is only one way to see Iceland - in one of the Boreal Private Tour Superjeeps.

Excellent opportunity to see the back country. Our guide and driver, Ingi, was wonderful. He told us so much about the geology of what we were seeing, plus folklore and language. The scenery was incredible and we would never have able to see ourselves with our little Hyundai rental car. Expensive but worth every penny.

I hired Boreal to transfer myself and 5 hiking clients to Langisjor from Reykjavik. Ingi (the owner) is a fantastic host, knowledgable and enthusiastic about all things Iceland and has a great sense of humour (and excellent English). His new Ford Superjeep is an absolute monster, a really incredible vehicle. I've taken 2 other Superjeep transfers and this was certainly the best. Ingi even took us on a more adventurous and scenic route to make sure we had the best time possible. The absolute highlight of a trip to Iceland and highly recommended for people looking to give their trip an X-factor!

We booked with Boreal after reading the reviews. Ingi was prompt and helpful in returning email inquiries, and compared to some of the other tour companies the price for a private tour was very fair. We told Ingi that we wanted to see Iceland while encountering as few tourists as possible and left the planning to him. Our guide Marten was great, and adjusted our plans on the go when the weather wasn't cooperating. He took us south, stopped at a series of falls, which were beautiful-but with lots of tourists-and more disappointing, rain. We hadn't been able to see much on the ride out because of the clouds and fog, so after pulling over to visit some Icelandic horses, Marten asked if it would be ok to alter the plans a bit- which was fine with us. As soon as he turned off the main road, we knew we were going somewhere most visitors wouldn't see, and the weather in the valley we entered started to clear immediately! We drove over river beds, Marten expertly navigating the comfortable superjeep. The vistas were breathtaking, and Marten was exceedingly patient with my constant requests to stop to take photographs! After driving through the valley, we parked and walked a bit until we got to an ice cave at the end of a glacier where the lava from the eruption of Eyjafyatjokull stopped the slide of ice. It was incredible! We continued exploring the area, the sun shining, for a couple hours until we decided to hit a black beach, at our request. As soon as we pulled out of the valley we were surrounded by fog and clouds again, and we can't thank Marten enough for finding the one sunny spot for us! When we arrived at the beach, Marten showed us a great video about the volcanic eruption years ago that threatened to destroy the small fishing island located off the shore of the beach (which we couldn't see because of the fog)! We drove for miles across the beach and saw some whale skeletons, a half of a hull from a wrecked boat, and not another person or vehicle-a very different experience from the beaches of our home! The day was fantastic, and given that the weather prohibited us from viewing the northern lights, it was definitely the highlight of our short visit to Iceland. While pricey to do a private tour, it was absolutely worth every penny! We would never have been able to see what we did if not for the superjeep and marten's expert driving! Even if we rented a 4x4, we would not have been able to find where we went, or make it through the riverbeds. Plus one of us would have been white knuckle driving and wouldn't have been able to enjoy the scenery! We will definitely return for a longer visit to Iceland and plan to book a hiking trek with Boreal. Ingi delivered on his promise of a personalized, non-touristy outing and we really appreciated his and Marten's efforts to give us a great day!
