We booked our super jeep tour following a recommendation. Ingi was incredibly helpful emailing various options to chose from. We decided on a half day tour and what a super time we had. Our guide Doddi was a great driver and very knowledgable about all aspects of Iceland; geography, folklore, geology, politics and demographics. Doddi was humourous and engaging and managed to keep our two adolesent daughters interested throughout.
As this was a private tour it was tailored directly to our needs. The jeep took us to places we could never see on a traditional group tour and gave us a real experience of off roading. This is a must if you visit Iceland. A truly amazing day.

I hired Boreal to transfer myself and 5 hiking clients to Langisjor from Reykjavik. Ingi (the owner) is a fantastic host, knowledgable and enthusiastic about all things Iceland and has a great sense of humour (and excellent English).
His new Ford Superjeep is an absolute monster, a really incredible vehicle. I've taken 2 other Superjeep transfers and this was certainly the best. Ingi even took us on a more adventurous and scenic route to make sure we had the best time possible. The absolute highlight of a trip to Iceland and highly recommended for people looking to give their trip an X-factor!

We booked with Boreal after reading the reviews. Ingi was prompt and helpful in returning email inquiries, and compared to some of the other tour companies the price for a private tour was very fair. We told Ingi that we wanted to see Iceland while encountering as few tourists as possible and left the planning to him. Our guide Marten was great, and adjusted our plans on the go when the weather wasn't cooperating. He took us south, stopped at a series of falls, which were beautiful-but with lots of tourists-and more disappointing, rain. We hadn't been able to see much on the ride out because of the clouds and fog, so after pulling over to visit some Icelandic horses, Marten asked if it would be ok to alter the plans a bit- which was fine with us. As soon as he turned off the main road, we knew we were going somewhere most visitors wouldn't see, and the weather in the valley we entered started to clear immediately! We drove over river beds, Marten expertly navigating the comfortable superjeep. The vistas were breathtaking, and Marten was exceedingly patient with my constant requests to stop to take photographs! After driving through the valley, we parked and walked a bit until we got to an ice cave at the end of a glacier where the lava from the eruption of Eyjafyatjokull stopped the slide of ice. It was incredible! We continued exploring the area, the sun shining, for a couple hours until we decided to hit a black beach, at our request. As soon as we pulled out of the valley we were surrounded by fog and clouds again, and we can't thank Marten enough for finding the one sunny spot for us!
When we arrived at the beach, Marten showed us a great video about the volcanic eruption years ago that threatened to destroy the small fishing island located off the shore of the beach (which we couldn't see because of the fog)! We drove for miles across the beach and saw some whale skeletons, a half of a hull from a wrecked boat, and not another person or vehicle-a very different experience from the beaches of our home!
The day was fantastic, and given that the weather prohibited us from viewing the northern lights, it was definitely the highlight of our short visit to Iceland. While pricey to do a private tour, it was absolutely worth every penny! We would never have been able to see what we did if not for the superjeep and marten's expert driving! Even if we rented a 4x4, we would not have been able to find where we went, or make it through the riverbeds. Plus one of us would have been white knuckle driving and wouldn't have been able to enjoy the scenery!

We will definitely return for a longer visit to Iceland and plan to book a hiking trek with Boreal. Ingi delivered on his promise of a personalized, non-touristy outing and we really appreciated his and Marten's efforts to give us a great day!

We booked with Boreal on the recommendation of our hotel in Reykjavik and we couldn't have been more pleased. Ingi would email me back immediately with answers to all my questions and was extremely helpful and honest about what we should see to do. Our guides Marten and Bardi Mar were fantastic - friendly, full of knowledge and doing everything they could to make our trip memorable. Bardi Mar somehow anticipated the best place to view the aurora and when we left after watching it for 2 hours, we could see streams of jeeps coming the other way still looking for the best spot that Bardi Mar had picked out before the show had even begun! I would wholeheartedly recommend Ingi and his team to anyone wanting a special personalized tour of all that this great country has to offer.

Ingi from Boreal looked after us with the same attentiveness at half past midnight after 2 hours watching the aurora in -8 degrees as he did when he planned the visits over the three days we were in his care. He was constantly adjusting his itinerary for example passing a waterfall so that we could return when the sun was on it. Everyone in our party of six was very different: ages from 30 something to 70 and variable fitness (the 70 year old was fitter than some of the younger ones!). He adapted the way he spoke to each person and constructed an itinerary which played to our interests and how tired or hungry we were. He has a mental encyclopaedia and map which he sifts through while driving his monster jeep while we sit back in comfort and wait for the next treat whether its lobster soup in a fishermen's cafe or an ice cave under a glacier.

Met at our hotel by our guide, Einar Ólafur Matthíasson (recommended by friends from earlier in the year and helpfully booked for us by Ingi at Boreal), we set off on a magical tour of the Golden Circle - just the 4 of us - a very personal and interesting tour.

The sites and scenery were fantastic around the Golden Circle - and Einar gave such a rich tapestry of information - from geology to folk lore, from history to ecology... all done with wit and humour - excellent!

Booking with Boreal was easy - all done by email and everything dealt with efficiently and helpfully - thanks Ingi! We'll definitely use them when we come back...and we intend to!

I traveled to Iceland with friends for New Years and did a two day tour with skilled guide Einar Ólafur Matthíasson to the Golden Circle and South Coast. It was an incredible experience that I will always remember.

We traveled in a small group in an invincible Super Jeep that could take us anywhere. Up snow covered hills, across volcanic ash fields, to the glaciers and the black beaches by the sea.

Einar our guide / stunt driver / historian / geologist / photographer / comedian did everything possible to customise the trip so that it was fun and brought us to where we wanted to go. He even customised the music we listened to so matched the mood of the landscape! We also learned a huge amount about the history, nature and culture of Iceland from Einear and even tasted the glacier ice!

It is tough to describe how superior an experience this was compared to being herded around on a tour bus that cannot go off the beaten track. To truly experience Iceland I strongly recommend a tour like this in a Super Jeep with an experienced guide. An epic experience!

We have just had a fantastic few days with Marten as our guide in one of their Ford Explorer Superjeeps. The jeep made light work of the varied terrain we covered and Marten had expert local knowledge on all the areas we visited. He even knew the quieter ‘off the beaten track’ sights to see too.
We started with a northern lights tour with Marten spotting early signs of activity and locating light free viewing areas. Marten also knew of many good and interesting eating places.
We based ourselves for part of the trip at Hotel Rangá and Marten was their to pick us up each day and kept us occupied each day.
A great few days in a fantastic and varied country with expert guiding and very competent driving from Marten.
We’ll definitely be back and there is only one way to see Iceland - in one of the Boreal Private Tour Superjeeps.

Excellent opportunity to see the back country. Our guide and driver, Ingi, was wonderful. He told us so much about the geology of what we were seeing, plus folklore and language. The scenery was incredible and we would never have able to see ourselves with our little Hyundai rental car. Expensive but worth every penny.
