My husband and I were just strolling down Laugavegi and we happened to be on the side of the street of this store. My husband dropped his mouth and we immediately went inside. Gilbert's son was very nice to show us watches and didn't make any assumed notions. When we first heard the price, we admit, we were taken aback with the price. We looked a little more and left the shop. Half way down the street we spoke about what the watch would mean, symbolic of Iceland, craftsmanship etc. and a few hours later we went back to the store at 4:30 - this time Gilbert helped us and we were there 1.5 hours talking to him and looking at watches. In the end we bought the original watch that my husband stopped at the window for. We would not be happier with the experience and if you can stop by this shop. Without a doubt the #1 shopping experience we've ever had.

Gilbert Gudjonsson is an Icelandic treasure! He is not only an amazing watchmaker, but a great ambassador for Iceland. I found out about JS Watch while I was planning my second trip to Iceland. My wife and I spent four days in Reykjavik at the end of a 10-day tour of Iceland in October 2019. We stopped by Gilbert’s shop every day we were in Reykjavik, to look at his watches, but also to talk to him and hear his stories. There is never any pressure to buy anything. He will gladly pull out any watch for you to try on. On our second trip to his store, we both picked out watches (I chose the 2018 World Cup and my wife chose a 101 Art Deco). We picked them up on our third day in Reykjavik (Gilbert has to change the bands) and on the fourth day, we just stopped by to tell him good-bye and have our picture taken with him. The watches aren’t cheap, but they aren’t crazy expensive, either ... and they are beautiful. Gilbert will happily show you his work area and let you watch him work on a watch, although he’d much rather tell you about Iceland or one of his fishing trips. Bottom line: Gilbert is a class act. He loves watches. He loves Iceland. And he loves entertaining people who drop by his shop.

Visited with Gilbert, Master Watchmaker. He was friendly and showed us their watches. They looked great!! Did pull the trigger but still thinking about it. Their limited edition World Cup watch is beautiful.

On a long weekend in Reykjavík we stopped in for a visit to JS Watch on the Main Street. I did some homework before the trip and learned there are two well known jewelers in town but only one original watchmaker. Gilbert is the owner and master watchmaker having over 50 years experience and launched his own brand in the early 2000’s. Firstly, a passionate gentleman with a great sense of humor and secondly he makes spectacular time pieces that I learned are worn by music and movie stars around the world. Many picture adorn the wall but he is a story teller and not a bragger. He never ‘sold’ me a watch but I did purchase two. We spent a long time discussing everything from watch design, to the weather, tourist stops, his family and lots and lots of details about the passion and caring he puts into every watch. Go for a watch. Stay for the stories. Thank you Gilbert. I will tell my friends and I will be back one day. It’s the only souvineer you need to bring home.

On my first trip to Iceland 2016, I ventured into the tiny JS Watch shop not knowing what to expect. Let me tell you if are an aficionado of fine watches you absolutely have to make a stop here and look around. These are exquisite watches built in extremely small quantities. The care and attention to detail that goes into these watches deserves high praise. Gilbert is a true master of his craft & also a wonderful conversationalist! Just don’t get him started about fishing! LoL While all the watches are beautiful, I was particularly awestruck by the Friesland God Special Edition as soon as I laid eyes on it. Sadly, I was unprepared to make that magnitude of purchase at the time. However, after two years of saving I was finally able to make the return journey to Iceland in 2018 to purchase the Friesland God Special Edition (I still can’t stop staring at it). It is without question the pinnacle of my watch collection.
