I had a free tour from Helena Travels after joining one of a tour when Helena was a guide. The title/theme of the tour was Iceland and Christmas, specifically on its tradition and food. I learned a lot about Christmas and the impact it has on Iceland when the guide brought us to the old town of Reykjavik city center, touring around stores and served us traditional Icelandic Christmas food. Great fun!…

It's been a dream for quite a while to visit Landmannalaugar, but renting a 4wd was always very expensive, if you only need it for one day, so we stumbled across Helena's custom tours and before we knew it, we were on our way to Landmannalaugar. It was a full day tour, we met Helena in the morning, she picked us up at the petrol station near Hella, and dropped us off there again in the very evening, when it was already completely dark. On the way to Landmannalaugar we stopped several times at absolutely stunning vistapoints, got to know a bit more about the Hekla volcano and then had an awesome hike in Landmannalaugar which ended with a hot spring bath. All in all, we felt like we had a daytrip with some really good friends who we haven't seen for a while, but who we've known for a very long time. It was really fun, relaxed and we were able to modify the route as we went along, really absolutely worth it. Helena is a wonderful guide, she knows the beautiful places, the interesting routes and is just a wonderful person to spend a day with. We were in fact quite sad the day was over, it could have gone on and on and on :) Thank you once again!!!…

I'm a seasoned tourist who doesn't like being around other tourists. I like the presence of an informed guide, but I also like setting my own itinerary and exploring on my own. Honoring these quirks, Helena customized the perfect tour off the beaten path and far from the tour buses, through the fascinating Reykjanes peninsula -- from vast moss-topped lava fields to tiny, barely inhabited villages on the sea. Helena conveys her expertise in Iceland's geography, history, and culture via friendly and witty conversation. I quickly came to feel that I was being shown around by a smart and knowledgeable friend. Helena's fees are reasonable compared to other private tours, which was surprising, given her talents for customizing and attention to detail. In fact, the tour exceeded the time frame we had discussed by an additional 20%, but she generously declined to increase her fee accordingly. I'm a New Yorker with a typical (some might say annoying) gift for finding reasons to criticize and complain, but I couldn't have been happier with Helena's perfect tour. She even sent me the gorgeous photos she took; among her many talents, she is an excellent photographer, whereas I'm a hack with an iPhone. I enthusiastically recommend her both to sophisticated travelers and those looking to discover the joys of traveling. Helena, thank you so much!…
