This place has 2 parts a zoo and an amusement park with rides

Zoo: very tiny and has seals, goats, horses, pigs… not very many animals at all. I’ve seen farms with more varieties of animals. So if you’re here for the zoo, I wouldn’t bother.

Amusement park: half of the rides were not functional so we were charged half the price for all you can ride admissions. But for the ones that were open (train, driving school, and carousel), it was great. Highlight of the trip was the “driving school.” So ymmv for your kid.

The playground here is amazing. They have zip lines, a giant pillow trampoline, and lots of playground structure.

If you have young children, I highly recommend stopping here because they will love the amusement and playground. If you don’t have kids, I wouldn’t come here at all.

Our kids love animals, which made the zoo an obvious place for us to visit. The zoo essentially has two parts: an actual zoo with mostly local animals (horses, sheep, goats) and a large playground with amusement park rides that require additional payment. The zoo is quite underwhelming- few animals, empty and old cages and some random construction sites in between. The amusement park is fun (even if somewhat expensive) for kids under 10; for older kids there is likely only one ride that is interesting. I would only do this if you have some extra time - there are too many better things to do in this country otherwise :)

In order to enjoy this collection of animals, you have to know some things in advance: 1) this is not a zoo like you would think - it is a display of animals that are domestic to Iceland, like farm animals, as well as a few that are found in the wild, like arctic foxes; 2) the zoo is small and is part of the larger park and gardens in Laugardalur; 3) the farm animals are rotated through and sent back to farms on a regular basis.

We enjoyed our time here and found the animals to be active and close to the walking paths. When they are closing, they round up the sheep, goats, and cows to put inside their overnight shelters, and that is fun to watch. You can pet the sheep and goats inside the shelters. Younger kids will love it! You can also buy a wristband that will allow you to ride the rides in the small amusement park over a foot bridge on the far side of the zoo. There is also a small cafe, but we found it to be very dirty at the end of the day, so I would suggest that you bring snacks to eat in the gardens once you leave the zoo. Also, there is free parking in the lot next to the entrance.

We visited this zoo during a sunny day late September, not expecting much as it seems to be advertised as a children’s zoo. The reality however was still disappointing.

There was a big chunk of land being renovated, which made it look like a building site, the seals were cute but in a very small enclosure. We saw a hawk, some deers and sheep outside, and cows and pigs in cages inside. The reptile room looked unkept. All animals seemed okay but the vibe was just sad compared to bigger zoos in the Netherlands.

We hope that the €7 entry fee will go to improving the living conditions of the animals. The amusement park that others mentioned wasn’t there but maybe we missed it. Would not visit here again.

The only reason for the lower score is because the Zoo part of the establishment is underwhelming for me and my 18 year old. However, if going with younger kids I have to imagine they will be in heaven. The majority of the animals are farm animals, but you can pet them if they are close enough. And the amusement park would be super fun for a younger kid.

My wife and I really enjoyed this half-day leisurely stroll through the Zoo and Park. Lots of animals to see and get up close - including seals, reindeer, cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, arctic foxes and minks. There also also horses that allow being petted. The park next to the zoo is an area for entertaining kids. Basic food at the local restaurant. Very enjoyable, especially on a sunny day.

We were excited to get so close to wild Icelandic animals- seals, reindeer, arctic fox, and mink. This was worth the price and walk to get there. Other than that, it was a nice place to walk and see some domestic animals. The rest of the zoo was not impressive and there were no informational signs or interactive exhibits. It is a little local zoo, just as it says. Keep your expectations there.

I am not a fan of watching animals in the zoo, I prefer them in their natural environment. It was a small zoo with almost all the land mammals you can find in Iceland. Mostly farm animals. It was in June, the animals were outside. Their outside enclosures were roomy. The animals looked good and most of them seemed to be happy. However, the seals had very small pool and horses desperately scraping their gravel floor looking for grass. But I also saw the inside pens where they are in winter. They were sooooooo small. There is also children's play area. It has a few castles, a large sandbox, and some other activities. The zoo has rather an educational function and recreation for children,  but I was quite depressed though there.

We took our 2 year old and he had a blast. Typical zoo set-up except lots of farm animals. Perfect small size to get up close and even pet some of the animals. Bonus was the carnival attached to the zoo. He could only ride the train and the merry-go-round but there were a ton of rides for older kids. Would recommend.

We went here after the botanical garden (it is basically located within or on the edge of the garden) and did not stay long as it was rainy. It was included in the 24h city card that we got. There are some buildings you can see more animals (reptiles, fish) and the animals were being fed so the cows, horses, pigs and sheep were inside as well. They liked the seals, who did not have much space to swim in. It did not take long to get through and we would have loved to stay for the amusement park but due to the rain it was not operating, so I cannot comment on that. Definitely fun to do for our 3 and 8 year old but is not a must see while in Reykjavik if you had to choose between this and something else.
