The worst part about writing a review is that the Holiday is over.... I was fortunate enough to have two trips to Iceland this year and both spent with Gummi, Eiki and Gardar. I have fished with these guys since I first went to Iceland 7 years ago, in that time I have been back a total of 8 times ( would have been more, but for Covid). during this time I have become good friends with the 3 of them, which just makes each trip better and better. ive had offers from other guides, but never changed who i fish with, quite simply Gummi and his team are the best!!

We went to Iceland on a cruise ship. We arranged the tour on line. I was picked up at the terminal by my guide, Ari.
We drove through beautiful iceland for an hour. Ari provided waders, fly rod and license. He instructed me on my technique and patiently worked with me as we aggressively fished. We fished two main areas and I was not disappointed
It is all catch and release. I caught some pan sized sea trout but at the end of the day a12 pounder made it all worthwhile
I highly recommend Ari and his company, listed below

I actually wanted to title this "Do not book this guide," just so that I can keep Gummi a secret. My wife and I spent a day fishing with Gummi on the Fossa River for salmon. Gummi delivered--I landed a large 85 cm female salmon, two large male salmon, and a large char. Incredible fishing and scenery. Gummi is laid back and extremely even-keeled which is perfect for our style, and we enjoyed spending the day with him. He has rights to some of the most incredible salmon beats in Iceland. We hope to come back year after year--what an incredible way to spend our honeymoon.

Although it may seem as though there are many excellent reviews regarding Gummi, please consider mine. I have been fly fishing for more than 10 years, and used to work at a Fly Fishing shop in Denver, CO. I've had many guides take me fishing in Canada, Florida, and Colorado. I say this because I'd like to add some reputability to my review. Three friends and I fished with Gummi in June this year. We went to go fish the Hola river. We were very underwhelmed with Gummi's guide tactics, manners, and overall demeanor. He tied a very simplistic fly rig on each of our rods and sat on the bank of the river talking on his cell phone while we all fished. He was rarely alongside us telling us where to cast, and after hours of fishing, we didn't switch fly patterns once. I was so disappointed with Gummi that I cancelled our next day of fishing. Don't get me wrong, we did catch fish, but this is the worst guide experience I've had.

It seemed as if he didn't care. After this experience, we contacted several other fly fishing companies in Iceland, who told us that what we had encountered that day was unacceptable. Which, it was. This is the worst guide I've ever had. If you have any questions, please contact me. Book with someone else.

All I can say is that I had just 1 day to fish AND check out some of Iceland's most gorgeous scenery, I wanted it all. Gummi helped me accomplish this as we drove 90 minutes, hiked into the canyon and fished the River Fossa upper falls (Háifoss waterfall), and later headed into southern Iceland's gorgeous, lush green pastures to check out a spring creek. Throughout Gummi put me on beautiful Brown trout which was awesome; and even more I enjoyed getting to know Gummi. What a great guy, and skilled fisherman. Highly recommend. Next time a 2-3 day tour for Salmon!

My dad and I booked 4 days fishing with Gummi after all the reviews we read said he was the best, we agree. Gummi certainly knows his fishing, helping us catch the trophy Brown Trout we had hoped for, despite strong winds and coloured water. My dads biggest a 9lb from The West Ranga River and myself an 11lb from Lake Thingvellir. Gummi is laid back, patient, has a good sense of humour and is genuinely pleased when you catch a fish. The scenery is amazing, on our 3rd day before fishing Gummi took us to to see the Geysers, Gulfoss waterfall, and the Viking house. Our accommodation was a summer cabin which was great, peaceful and quiet and central for the fishing. We were well looked after and it was 4 of the best days I have ever had. We will be back and look forward to fishing with Gummi again.

Gummi is an amazing guide and fisherman who fullfilled my wildest fly fishing dreams. He is a true professional and has a very special relationship with the nature, especially the wet part of it. If you are looking for the fishing experience of a lifetime, look no further, this is it!

Prostir is meticulous in his riverkeeping activities to provide records on the salmon runs and the large trout populations in river tributaries to give you the best experience possible
