The IMAGINE PEACE TOWER is a work of art conceived by the legendary artist and peace advocate Yoko Ono as a beacon to world peace. It is dedicated to the memory of John Lennon. The IMAGINE PEACE TOWER is located on Viðey Island in Kollafjörður and it's light is well visible from Reykjavík city and the capital area. Every year the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER emerges an hour after sunset between 9 October (Lennon's day of birth) and 8 December (Lennon's demise). In addition the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER emerges for one week on winter solstice, on New Year's Eve, for one week during spring equinox and few other selected dates. The ever changing weather conditions play an interesting part to the strength, intensity and brilliance of the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER’S light. During it's lighting time guided tours are avaiable called the Imagine Peace Tour. The tour is dedicated to the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER and Lennon’s and Ono’s continuing campaign for world peace. It is run by Elding with departures from Reykjavík's Old harbour. The tour unites history, art and nature is an interesting way.

Although interesting and nice to look at, you can see it at a distance. Not really worth the hassle to actually transport yourself to the place. Definitely not worth to pay for an actual tour for this.

The sculpture has "Imagine Peace" written in 24 languages. Viewers are asked to spread the word via social media. It is only lit for a few months out of the year, when, I assume it is impressive; when unlit and in the daytime, it is not very impactful.

Since I was on the island, I biked up to it. During the day it is pretty unimpressive. I really needed to see it at night, lit up. I'm sure it is amazing then.

This was lit when we were there for our honeymoon. You can see it from miles away and gills the sky with the peace lights! Made us all warm inside!

On Videy Island - we kept looking for a "tower". Finally found it not far from where the ferry stops. It's more of a beacon and sort of cool with all of the different languages on it. Don't make a special trip to see if unless it's one of the times they light it.

We never knew of the Imagine Peace Tower until we visited Videy Island. Loved it and all that it stands for and would love to plan a visit to see it illuminated, along with the northern lights. Bucket list trip in the future.

Yoko Ono's famous sculpture dedicated to the memory of John Lennon has been on my wife's bucket list for some time and she was not disappointed

Yoko Ono's legacy is multifold, but this is an important piece of it. Visit it at night while it is shining (generally a few weeks in the fall, New Year's Eve, and Yoko Ono's birthday). You will not be disappointed. Dress warmly.

I did not know about this tower until my visit to Videy island. I now have the photos to prove it. I would love to be here to witness the lighting up of the tower. It is a wonderful expression of peace and love for sharing.
