The outdoor Sculpture Garden is behind the Museum and is worth a visit. It's free and well laid out. It was raining while we were there so we couldn't spend too much time but the sculptures are beautiful.

A fascinating collection on sculptures many drawn from Norse mythology. We stumbled upon it on our way to Hallgrimskirkja. The garden would benefit from more publicity and an explanation of the sculptures.

I admit it - I had no familiarity with the sculpture of Einar Jonsson and only visited the Museum by complete chance. But from the first glimpse inside, I was overwhelmed by his art and the collection. This Museum, just in front of Hallgrímskirkja, contains a vast amount of Jonsson's work. It was also his home - a penthouse apartment... More

We didn't have time to do the museum but the sculpture garden outside of it is easily accessible and free. It's not my taste in art but it was still interesting to view. This is located right across from Hallgrímskirkja and was recommended to us by one of the people attending the church service with us.

This museum was built to display Einar Jonsson's monumental sculptures, but also to provide an apartment for the artist and his wife. Today, there's a gallery on the main floor (reached via a long staircase from the street) featuring Jonsson's works based on Icelandic history and myth. A spiral staircase leads up to the top floor, where Jonsson and his... More

Not only is this a museum, but it's Jonsson's Studio and Home. we were walking by an noticed that the door to the museum was open, this was odd because the guidebook clearly said it was closed this day. When we inquired they indeed were open and the guide books had erroneously published their summer hours. Anyway, lucky for us... More

Worth a visit when you are seeing Hallgrimskirkja- right next door. Very manageable and interesting.

Beautiful works set in quiet gardens close to Hallgrímskirkja Church. Thought provoking artwork. Only had time for gardens which are free, so unable to comment on the Museum itself.

Although this museum has a fairly expensive entry fee and does NOT allow photography, the museum provides a look at many of Jonsson plaster and marble sculptures, over three floors and within a garden. The plaster models allow you to see the details and vision of the sculptures that exist all over Iceland in bronze. As the bronze has weathered... More

This museum and sculpture garden gets overlooked in the tour guides. The free sculpture garden is a two minute walk from one of the most visited sites in Reykjavík, yet it is free. If you take the time to go into the museum (fee) you will be pleasantly surprised. Considering the amount of work that Einar Jonsson has done, it... More
