    Lutheran church..
Part of our tour, we stopped at this cathedral. It was built in 1787-1796 and its neo classical style defines it . It’s the seat of the Bishop of Iceland and mother church of the Lutheran religion. Apparently, you can have a private tour but unfortunately we couldn’t stay .

Charming Church close to all the shoppping and restaurants.
Charming little Church close to city hall. Many mistakenly believe Hallsgrimm is the main Church but they are mistaken- the other one is bigger but this is older and the main Church of Reykjavik. I found it very charming.

Small Church next door to Parliament
This small Church is located in downtown Reykjavik, on the main square, next door to Icelandic Parliament. Domkirkjan is in fact the main Lutheran Cathedral of Iceland, not the Hallgrimskirkja. The interiors are more beautiful and decorated than the austere ones in Hallgrimskirkja.

This isn't a very big cathedral, but the inside is much nicer than Hillgrimskirkja in my opinion. It's worth a stop if you are walking around the city. I spent about 10 minutes there, just to look around and take photos. It is only open about 4 hours a day and if there is an event, they close. I was lucky enough to visit on my last day in the city.

This lovely Lutheran chapel is located very near the picturesque Lake Tjornin. The second time that we were in the vicinity, we were fortunate enough to visit the interior. Very special place. Reykjavik City Hall is also close by. Do not miss the topography map there.

Quite amazing that this is the cathedral and not the Hallgrimskirkja considering that is much larger than this! But it has a lot of history and is really cute.
Inside is beautiful, very simple.
In a nice area of the city. A pretty park outside.

Most people here are reviewing the large and imposing church "Hallgrímskirkja" that sits prominently atop a hill overlooking all of Reykjavík. They assume as many do that, that is the cathedral.

That is wrong. The cathedral is down town, next to the parliament.

It's real tiny and unimposing. Not much to see there to be honest unless you want to see the tiniest cathedral in Europe. Not many cathedrals have corrugated iron exteriours.

Hallgrímskirkja on the other hand has superb views over the city.

I can think of only two cathedrals in the world built of corrugated iron. This is one of them (the other is in Torshavn in the Faroe Islands). This might not sound much of a recommendation, but the interior of this simple, historic church is beautiful and quietly inspiring. Very much a working church, there are regular services.

The church hosts free Tuesday evening piano concerts by classical pianist Ólafur Elíasson who performs selections from J.S. Bach's Well Tempered Clavier. The church is a wonderful venue, contemplative, peaceful, elegantly sparse; wonderful place to listen to music.

The Domkirjan Lutheran Cathedral is downtown. You are seeing pictures and reviews of the Hallgrimskirkja Church.

I coud only take a picture outside. I could not go in when I was there, so I cannot tell you anyother information.

It's a fine example of a fairly modest church one would find in any small country. Not one of those overly gold laden monstrous Cathedrals.
