This was a fantastic experience to ride an Icelandic horse! I absolutely loved the horse I rode, he was very steady and I enjoyed the experience of the tolt gait, a very smooth ride. The trail ride was amazing and geared to my riding experience, taking us through wooded trails as well as a more open area with volcanic rock formations. The staff were super friendly and helpful, always great to connect to horse friends. I would highly recommend Viking Horses for a riding experience, and the stable is only a 15 minute drive from downtown Reykjavik and easy to find. Even though there was a bit of snow in the morning, the afternoon was sunny and beautiful weather to ride with a moderate weight jacket and the riding gloves provided by the stable. I definitely would return for future trail riding!

We definitely enjoyed the ride. The guides were so friendly and professional. They first gave us a short yet informative riding lesson before we headed out. Then they assign horses according to everyone’s riding experience. Since we ride in a small group of 7 people, the guide took very good care of us and made sure none of us were left behind.
We would love to give Viking Horses a 100% recommendation.

This was a truly wonderful experience. Normally, no tours are offered during the weekend, but I was accommodated for a private tour. The whole experience from pickup, arrival at the stable, the ride, and drop off was just perfect. My guide was very professional and knowledgeable, and I felt safe the whole time even though my prior experience with horses was rather limited. Thank you and I hope to come back again!

Honeslty one of the best experiences we have done in Iceland yet! We arrived and ended up only being us two and the guide. He was lovely, very chatty and very nice. We spoke a little bit about riding experience ect (me being a more experienced rider, and my boyfriend being completely new) then we were matched to horses suited to us. I had Chocolate and my boyfriend had Hercules. It is clear the horses are really well looked after and cared for.
The hack give us chance to experience the Icelandic horses extra gaits compared to the UK horses. This was certainly an experience that could not be missed and was even accessible to my boyfriend who had never ridden before. When noticed he was struggling, guide stopped and helped him with rein position ect and it made he feel really well supported.
Overall really worthwhile trip, and really really appreciate the smaller group, and ability to try the different gait’s which i know isn’t allowed for other company’s

We were 4 friends and we were the only ones in the group.
We had a beautiful time and both the guide and horses were great.
We are not great riders but the guide was very careful and ensured that everyone was safe and well.
The trails were beautiful and were calm and safe.
We can highly recommend this company if you are not that experienced and want nice horses, small groups and a careful guide.

I had an amazing time on the Viking Horses tour, which was my first time riding in over 20 years. They were very well equipped to handle and support a beginner rider (me!) and took us through the beautiful lupine fields and also the red lava fields, which were spectacular. They took lots of photos and videos, which they shared at no charge, and made sure everyone had a great time. We finished with tea and coffee. Strongly recommend this business.

Amazing experience for the whole family. The staff perfectly matched horses with riding expertise of each person which made for a pleasant ride for all. The horses are very calm and well trained so even those unfamiliar with horseback riding did very well. The staff was pleasant, very knowledgeable, and easy to talk with, answering all our questions. The route of the ride was through an interesting lava field with beautiful scenery. The ride was the perfect length, not too long or too short which satisfied everyone in our group. The farm is a very short trip from Reykjavik, and they offer easy pick up/drop off. A very fun way to spend an afternoon enjoying these unique horses and beautiful Iceland.

I took my 12 year old daughter horseback riding with Viking. She has ridden before (can trot and canter) as have I, although not for 35 years…
It was a well organised experience by Viggo. Viggo was excellent in terms of giving the group confidence in riding Icelandic horse, and led us out for a hack. There were only four of us which meant for a much more intimate experience (indeed, we passed a larger group of 20 riders which looked far less fun). Viggo also upped the pace to the extent everyone felt comfortable, stopped for photos and allowed everyone to relax at the end.
Overall, a very good experience and worth paying the extra for Viking to participate in smaller groups.

I’m so glad I went with this horse tour! Everyone at Viking Horses were great, and I had such an amazing ride even though it’s been about twenty years since I’ve ridden. Next time I’m in Iceland I will be booking with them again. Thank you so much for memorable last day in Iceland and give Klaki a treat for me for being such a sweet and patient horse!

Hello, my girlfriends and I will be in Iceland at the end of October. I am an advanced rider and they (2 of them ) are beginners. Could we start off together and then separate, so that we all get the most out of our ride?

Our daughter is a proficient in riding. Lessons each week in USA. We are looking for a stable that will allow her to experience the different gaits of the Icelandic horse. We possibly would love to stay a few days. Do you accommodate travelors
Written November 1, 2018
I do not think they have accommodations but they are very close to the city and will pick up and return her to her hotel.

Hi Vikings horses team,
Do you allow tourists to see/meet the horses even if they do not want to ride them? As in some with some entry fee to the stable. I have limited time before catching my flight hence tour won't be feasible. Thanks
Written September 20, 2018
Hello Divya, yes of course we welcome you to our stable. It is best to contact us per Email or phone to arrange a visit. See you soon!

Hi. After reading the reviews, we would really like to visit you to ride the horses. None of us are experienced riders. My husband and I are active seniors in our 60s and we are bringing our 11 year old granddaughter. We would like to book on July 24th in the afternoon. (We are hoping to do puffin watching in the morning). Please let me know if that would be possible and how to reserve.
Thank you.
