Our tour started by being met at the airport and driven to the Foss Hotel Reykjavic. We were given a folder full of maps, detailed itinerary and other useful information. The driver to the hotel was friendly and informative. The staff at the hotel were friendly and check-in was easy. Rooms were lovely (our had both a bath and a separate shower). On our second day we met in the lobby with the other 12 tourists who would be in our group. Our driver/tour leader was Asgeir Sverrisson who was excellent. He had a friendly and patient demeanour, had a wonderful dry sense of humour, told excellent stories and was full of information. He made a point to help taking photos at each stop. The sights in Iceland speak for themselves, I think we spent just the right amount of time at each location , there is however a lot of driving. We were on the back row of the small bus, given the weather, it was frequently rainy or misty or dark there was not a lot to see however if I took the same tour in the summer I would have been frustrated with the height/size of the windows at the back of the bus. I literally had to slide down in my seat to see out at all.

We were in a wonderful group and everyone got on very well. Always a risk with these types of tours but then I think everyone was there to enjoy themselves and were like minded.

The Magma hotel where we spent two nights away from Reyjkavic was in a beautiful location and had wonderful chalet rooms. We ate as a group and the dinners were fantastic. One disappointment was that we were never actually at the hotel location in the daylight to enjoy the views. Of course this was one of the challenges of visiting in November. Next time we go in the summer! However, because we went in November we could walk up the glacier. We were a little surprised that this was a little more intense than we had imagined. We hiked to the foot of the glacier, put on harnesses and ice crampons and scaled our way up. One slip and you could potentially go down a hole in the ice! My wife and I were definitely out of our comfort zone (we are in our mid 60s) but our glad we were brave enough to do it! We heard that an American tourist had died in an ice cave on a similar excursion two months before (the ice cave had collapsed on the group). September might be too early to be visiting ice caves due to summer melt!

We had added an additional free day before our tour and we are so glad we did. We reckoned the weather on the rest of our tour was not going to allow us to see the Northern Lights (we were correct and we did not even attempt to see them) so we signed up with one of the many buses on the evening of our free day, drove out of town and did see the Northern Lights, many in the rest of our tour group did not get that chance.. Given the circumstances I think the Nordic Visitor group might have reached out to those in our group spending their first night in Reykjavik to suggest they find a bus tour to see the lights and to even recommend one.

Overall the food in Iceland is amazing although expensive. I recommend the Rok restaurant in Reykjavic (opposite the cathedral) although not the sampler menu (more expensive than it should be).

We (as a couple) recently returned from a 17 day self-drive holiday which we organised through Nordic Visitor. Our contact with the allocated agent from the initial organisation through to our arrival in Reykjavik was efficient and business-like. Emails were answered promptly. We chose the superior level of accommodation which was overall very good. The material we received i.e. detailed itinerary prior to our arrival was excellent as it allowed us to do some research ourselves to plan out our days. You definitely can't see everything listed so would recommend really focussing on the things you want to see. The only glitches we experienced were on our arrival in Reykjavik, the transfer driver did not wait the 5-10 minutes for us despite me sending a text more than 3 hours before our arrival. We took a taxi to the hotel and were reimbursed. Further, they advised that only one of us could take the transfer drive from hotel to rental car office to pick up car - so we made our own way there. The material we received was excellent with a map marked up with our itinerary - there was an error on this - a wrong hotel which I had to clarify when we were on the road. Iceland is an expensive place to visit (we are Australian) - petrol, dining out, alcohol being very expensive - fish and chips (no salad) + 2 beers = A$125. We knew all this in advance so had budgeted for it. Iceland is an amazing country to visit - the scenery amazing. We were blessed with excellent weather. The Westfjords and Lake Myvatn areas our favourite part of the trip. Despite being there in peak summer, we found it very easy to get around on the road and at each destination (we had expected more congestion/crowds etc). A highlight for us was a trip to the Highlands out of Selfoss as an added day in our itinerary - we did a private super jeep trip with Midgard - just amazing. All up the 17 days cost A$33,000 excluding airfares to get to Iceland with A$24,000 of this to Nordic Traveller for the car/accommodation/itinerary; $3,000 to Midgard for the private day tour; A$800 for petrol (3,500 kms driven); A$1,000 for comprehensive insurance (highly recommended) for Hertz 4wd; the rest on food/drink/snacks etc. Was it worth it - as expensive as it was, yes definitely for us. I could not have organised such a detailed itinerary and pull it all together as Nordic Visitor did. Recommended.

Hi there, thank you so much for sharing your detailed and thoughtful review! We’re thrilled to hear that your 17-day self-drive holiday in Iceland was such a memorable experience, and that you found our service helpful in organising it all. It's wonderful to know that the superior accommodation, itinerary, and travel guide helped you make the most of your trip, despite Iceland's vast array of things to see and do. We apologise for the inconvenience regarding your transfer upon arrival and we are glad to hear it was resolved. It’s great that you loved the Westfjords, Lake Mývatn, and your private super jeep tour with Midgard in the Highlands – those truly are stunning areas! We understand that Iceland can be expensive, thank you for sharing your findings on how much you spent on petrol, dining out and alcohol. We’re happy you found it worth the investment, especially being blessed with beautiful weather, and that you found it so easy to get around even though you travelled in peak season. Thank you again for choosing Nordic Visitor, and for recommending us. We hope to welcome you back to Europe for another adventure in the future!

Iceland is a beautiful place to visit and the people we met were very welcoming. My husband and I have traveled to other countries but have only recently begun to hear about Iceland when friends and family visited and shared their enthusiasm with us. In October, we were two members of a 14-person bus tour for 7 nights. Our guide/driver was Simon, who kept us laughing while taking good care of us as we traveled on the Ring Road. During our journey, we experienced bright, sunny weather, a little rain, cold, wind, snow, and ice, and then we returned to Reykjavik to sunny weather again. We saw gorgeous waterfalls (one with rainbows), glaciers, black sand beaches with chunks of ice like diamonds, geysers, mountains, and volcanoes. Best of all, we witnessed the Northern Lights and have pictures to prove it! In addition to the landscape, we visited the Fridheimar Farm stables with Icelandic horses and nearby greenhouses, where they grow 40% of the tomatoes consumed in Iceland. We visited the LAVA Centre to learn about volcanoes, saw Icelandic architecture at the Skogar Museum, a folk center with traditional homes and other buildings, and soaked in the geothermal-heated Nature Baths in Myvatn.

It was fun to explore Reykjavik, and we added an extra day at the end for that purpose. Hallgrimskirkja (church) is huge, and you can take an elevator for a fee up to the bell tower and look out the windows, peer out from behind the clock faces, and stand under the bells when they chime the hour. We happened to be there at 11 am and I videotaped the bells playing. The Lava Show (demonstrations with molten rock) and Whales of Iceland Natural History Museum with life-sized models were fascinating and educational.

We will smile when we remember the beauty and many experiences of our visit to Iceland.

I’ve just returned from Nordic Visitor’s 10 day Natural Wonders of Iceland tour. I’m sorry to say, I wouldn’t recommend this tour. I’ll get to the reasons why in just a minute. First, the positives for this tour.

. Itinerary – the itinerary appears to be very good, but I can’t comment conclusively because unprecedented June snow forced us to cancel the northern part of the ring road and head back south and west the way we had come from. Obvously this is no fault of the tour operator but it also means I can’t make a judgement on the northern half of their itinerary.

. Lodging – our accommodations were fine. Most, if not all, our hotels were Foss Hotels, and all the rooms were neat and clean.

. Meals – considering what we had heard about the cost of food in Iceland, the meals were actually quite good. There was a lot of lamb, which my wife doesn’t eat, but they always came up with a suitable substitute for her.

Now for the negatives.

.Price – after booking this tour, we discovered that O.A.T. (Overseas Adventure Travel) has a similar tour at a similar price point. However, their cost includes air travel, which makes Nordic Visitor’s tour quite a bit more expensive.

.Vehicle – this is the deal breaker for me, and was a major concern for many of the travelers in our group. While the O.A.T. tour also is a group of 16, they use a full-size tour bus, which means there is plenty of room to spread out and store your day bag. Nordic Visitor’s van, on the other hand, was a small tour van holding 16 people maximum. This wasn’t too bad if you were in one of the single or double seats, but if you were one of the four people crammed in the last row, it was torture. We all took turns sitting in the last row, which meant that for at least that day, you were miserable. At the very least, Nordic Visitor should have capped the maximum number of travelers at 14, so that only two people had to sit in the back row. Also, with Nordic Visitor stuffing in as many people as possible, storage was at a minimum. There was some overhead space, but only for small items. When I inquired prior to the trip, I was informed that I could bring my camera bag in the van with me. What they didn’t tell me is that I would have to spend the entire tour with it sitting on my lap.

In conclusion, if you are looking to book a guided small group tour, I think you can do better than Nordic Visitor.

Hi there, we are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the itinerary, though we understand your frustration that the unprecedented June snowstorms resulted in everyone travelling around Iceland to be rerouted for safety reasons. We are very sorry to hear of your disappointment with some aspects of your tour. We would very much like to get together with you to apologise and gather more feedback so we can make immediate changes where necessary. Our Director of Customer Experience, Lorna, would like to get together on a call with you - please can you email her (customerexperience@nordicvisitor.com) to arrange a suitable time? Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us.

My family and I attended the Winter Highlights & Northern Lights tour thru Nordic Visitor. We spent 5 days and 4 nights in Iceland, traversing nearly the whole southern coast of the island. Aron Hinriksson was our tour guide, and we couldn't have asked for a better person to lead the way!

Aron was extremely knowledgeable about all things Iceland. Our total group must have peppered him with 50 questions a day for several days, and he always had a thoughtful and personal response. He had such a great and caring attitude for all folks on the trip, and was excited to teach us more about his home country and all it has to offer those who want to learn.

This is an excellent tour, and honestly probably one of the best ways to see and do as much as you can in Iceland. I would not recommend going it alone; rather, having a tour guide is extremely helpful in actually learning about what you're seeing.

I couldn't rate Aron higher. He was superb and I would go on another 4-5 day tour with him any day.

My husband and I just returned from an incredible trip to Iceland coordinated by Nordic Visitor and simply can not say enough wonderful things about them. I first contacted them back in January looking to organize an epic self-guided adventure for a milestone birthday. From our first introduction, our assigned travel consultant Clarence was warm and welcoming, and quickly responsive to all my many questions. He was enthusiastically willing to customize the trip including adding a day and moving a couple things around from what was originally in the template itinerary I chose. At every step, Clarence was incredibly organized and had every detail nailed down, never losing track of anything, and offering helpful suggestions along the way as well. Always warm, personable, and professional - what a gem.

From the moment we arrived in Reykjavik, everything went perfectly to plan, from airport transfers, hotel check-ins, rental car pickup, to add-on tours and reservations. We had one change of plan when a glacier tour was canceled due to high winds (completely understandable, if you’ve been to Iceland and know the winds they can have at times!), and although we had already planned to check in with the local operator that day, Nordic Visitor actually called us in the morning (on a Sunday!) before we even had a chance to do that, to let us know of the cancelation so we could plan our day noting the change. Could simply not ask for better attention to detail, from the planning stages all the way through the trip.

The itinerary was perfectly paced - that is a challenge to get right I imagine with the short days this time of year. This was one of the reasons we opted to work with an agent to begin with - as experienced travelers and planners, we are accustomed to making a lot of arrangements on our own, but this time we knew we needed a little help to make the most of the short days and see everything we wanted to see! This definitely paid off. We kept an eye on drive times, but we absolutely never felt rushed, nor did we feel we wasted any time. The suggested highlights of each day were spot on, and although there is always more to see, we had ample time to see plenty and to hang out each place long enough to catch the little details and observations that really make the various sites special.

The hotels were fabulous - we chose the “superior” option and the hotels were really lovely, the rooms very comfortable and generally spacious, the hotels had nice lounge/restaurant/bar areas and the included breakfast buffets were outstanding everywhere.

Highly recommend Nordic Visitor to anyone considering a trip to Iceland!

While looking to plan our friend trip to Iceland, we were very overwhelmed with all the options. We ended up finding Nordic Visitor while searching online and booking with them was the best decision we could've made. We booked the Best of South Iceland tour and had the most seamless experience. Before we booked, we had spoke with our travel consultant Gudron, who quickly and kindly answered all our questions prior to booking. After booking, she was an amazing help, going above and beyond to make sure our hotel was aware of medical needs, adding on excursions, adjusting times of tours and truly providing us with the most amazing itinerary. We had opted for the superior room options and she placed us in the Reykavik Residence Hotel, which was beyond beautiful and worth the upgrade. It was in a perfect, central location - easy to walk throughout the city and a quick walk to the bus stop for all of our tours. Every tour was very well done and informative. Our favorites were the add-ons of Into the Glacier, which was such a unique experience. Without a doubt, I would re-book with Nordic Visitor and Gudron and would highly recommend her to anyone planning to visit. She was such a vital part of making our trip as amazing as it was and we are so thankful that we booked through her!

We took this 12 day tour of Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway in June-July 2024. Booking was easy and the trip was reasonably priced. We started with the "pre-tour" in Helsinki, which was a good way to get acquainted with the area. The overnight ferry to Stockholm was fun. The tax free shop was a big hit - but I would probably advise waiting until the Oslo ferry (to avoid carrying too much stuff around). Thankfully I had done some research ahead of time, and found out the ferry company runs a bus to downtown Stockholm - the port there is far from downtown (and you're on your own for this part of the "pre-tour"). You can buy tickets on the ferry. The Elite Hotel Adlon is just a couple of blocks from the station. Once the official tour started in Stockholm everything was exactly as outlined on the website. The local tour guides were all excellent. It felt great to be on a private tour (16 people) - our tour mates were fun and the days seemed well organized. Breakfasts were always provided and plentiful (except it was rare to find espresso). Our tour guide Will was a good sport did a great job keeping us corralled and on schedule. He made sure we all got seated together on the buses and trains. They do transport your luggage from Oslo to Bergen (so you don't have it with you for the Norway in a nutshell portion of the trip), but you do still need to lug it on and off the ferries and the train to Malmo, so do follow their advice and travel light and also hold off on major shopping until Oslo. The few meals they provided were just OK and any drinks (except water) were always on your own tab. However, I enjoyed having dinner on our own most nights, as I had researched (and reserved) some excellent restaurants ahead of time. The optional activities in Flam were a must, and were popular (so book them with the tour). Always bring your own water bottles (you can refill them with tap water). Bottled water was not provided. I would say the hotels were all adequate, but the rooms were typically small and none could be described as luxury (except Ski Petri in Copenhagen which was awesome). Currency is different in each county, but they accept (and expect) cards everywhere so don't bother with cash. Obviously, with only 1-2 nights on each city things move fast and get blurred.
However, overall I though it was a pretty good way to get an overview of Scandinavia.

It was like going through the land of folklore and myths. Look to highlands and you can see where a dragon’s claws scrape the side of the mountain as it crashed to the earth. Its body now covered by glaciers of ice , but the fires of it’s belly still can be seen flowing from under the ice…..
It was a magical trip. A beautiful place with it’s waterfalls and beaches, farms and town. The weather is ever changing and often harsh but that adds to the mystique of it all.
Recommend you take the guided tour around the “Ring” and the guide you need is called Simon. He is a man of proven adaptability, improvision and an ability to overcome adversities, while providing colorful commentary, entertainment and knowledge of the island and its history. Simon also provided watchful and caring presence of the group. A group, I might add, that would have put a “ herd of cats” to shame.

Thank you Simon and the Nordic group for a wonderful time. Look forward to doing it again.

We did a 13 day drive tour and both my daughter and I agreed we would have been better off staying in Reykjavik and doing day trips out to see more of the country and we would have saved a lot of money. While the country is beautiful, the scenery, waterfalls, fjords became repetitive after a few days. For what I was charged, I expected decent hotels. Three or four of them affixed reading lights or switches to the walls so that the two single beds that we requested caused my head to hit these things as they were positioned poorly. The Hótel Ísafjörður – Horn required that you walk 3 blocks r/t to check-in on the rainy and windy day we were there and this fact was not highlighted on the voucher and we only realized it when we tried to enter the locked door to the empty lobby. We then had to walk the same 3 blocks again as our room had no towels and no phone to call the reception desk. We then had to wait in the lobby of the nice hotel and then carry them back in the rain to the throw away hotel. And of course we had the same trip the next morning for breakfast and then to check-out. It was again rainy and very windy when we arrived at The Malarhorn, Grundargata, Drangsnes. Our room overlooked the parking lot and consisted of a glassed in porch, the door to which had the lock and a door to the bedroom. I smelled mildew as I walked in, felt the wind through the night in the bedroom and in the morning, the porch had water inside wetting the carpet due to the fact that the hotel was constructed poorly. In order to access the dining room, you had to climb steps to the second level of a building and they were not covered and dangerous in the wind. As a senior citizen which Nordic Visitor knew, I had no problem getting the senior discount at pools, museums, etc. Yet the few things booked directly through them did not account for this.

While we're glad you found the natural beauty of Iceland captivating, we understand that the accommodation and logistics of your stay could have been better. We would very much like to get together with you to apologise and gather more feedback so we can make immediate changes where necessary.
