We faced multiple cancellations due to poor weather which we are completely understanding of. Iceland's weather is naturally unpredictable and it's a risk that travellers face. To encourage tourists, most Icelandic tour companies offer a full refund for any cancellation due to weather. Unfortunately, Arctic Adventures doesn't necessarily do this. Hence, I would discourage anyone from booking with this company and facing the risk of losing a lot of money.
In our case, we booked exclusively with Arctic Adventures. On the 9th and 10th of Jan, our Silfra Snorkelling tour got cancelled. On the 10th, we wasted 2 hours back and forth to Silfra only be to told it was cancelled last minute. Weather was bad. We understand.
On the 13th, our Peninsula tour was cancelled at the very last minute. Once again, weather. That's fine as well. HOWEVER, we really wanted to try Silfra Snorkelling so we tried every way to contact Arctic Adventures to reschedule Silfra Snorkelling. They were unreachable on social media, email and by phone. Hence, we decided to book online. Unfortunately the price was higher but given that we had nothing to do on the 13th, we went ahead and booked on their website, expecting them to reimburse us the difference in price. The difference in price is due to the fact that we were able to buy our original tour in a package months ago, under the Black Friday Sale. As students, we scrambled furiously to organise our payments and pay in time for the sale.
Unfortunately, our emails, requesting the reimbursement, were ignored and for one month, they ceased to reply to us. We have tried, with no success, to acquire a refund. I would also like to point out that Laura P, who replies on this thread, has awful customer service and she never addressed the gist of my emails.
I knew Iceland's weather would be bad but I expected Arctic Adventures to address cancellations with professionalism. Instead, they ignored our calls, ignored our emails labelled URGENT and showed no sympathy. We were students looking forward to having a good time in Iceland and spending our savings. However, our experience with Arctic Adventures has been terrible. We are extremely understanding with weather issues but they are an extremely unprofessional company and bad customer service. There were many other issues such as our tour guide telling us that we could get a refund for our Northern Lights tour, only for Arctic Adventures to backtrack on that promise. Please don't book with them. Also, Laura, please stop showing us fake sympathy. That's not how customer service works.
