My boyfriend and I enjoy mountain biking and Iceland has always been on our hit list to pay a visit. Iceland did not disappoint, it was a truly magnificent mountain biking adventure with breathtaking scenery and excellent company.

We could not fault our guide Kjartan Long who is an Icelandic search and rescue volunteer. He did an outstanding job of navigating 8 mountain bikers safely through the sometimes unpredictable environment of Iceland.

We also take our hats off to Atli Lýðsson, our driver, who drove his MTB mobile (which had massive wheels) across rivers and over treacherous gradients with ease.

When researching Iceland as a do-it-yourself holiday, every which way always turned into an extortionate expense. Thank you Bike Company for making it a more affordable destination. Keep up the good work.

Naturally being drawn to open spaces and simple beauty I thought and found Iceland to be an extraordinary country. The diversity of raw nature was astounding. The rough idea was to cycle throughout the country for 2 weeks, submersed in nature on and off the roads, camping every night, then bus back Reykjavik to get my flight. I spent little time in any towns besides renting a mountain bike from the Bike Company in Reykjavik and picking up supplies from smaller towns along the way.

I was in the southern part of the country when the aluminum support of my bike rack cracked in two pieces and I was unable to repair it properly without the rack and my two panniers slipping off to the side every 30 minutes making it impossible to ride with all the friction on the back tire along with the heavy gusts of wind that day, which alone made it difficult enough. Being one of the only souls on the planet who doesn't use mobile phones, I pulled over, flagged down a ride hoping to get into the next town to speak with a mechanic. An Icelandic couple with a baby and a car full of luggage heading to Skogar picked me up, even though I insisted on flagging down the next car since theirs was already quite full and space was non-existent for myself, my gear, and the cycle. We made it all fit and I crammed in next to the baby in the back. Through gentle conversation, it came to be that the women was the sister of the owner of The Bike Company in Reykjavik, proving how small Iceland is (~400,000 pop.). In minutes, she called The Bike Company and they relayed to me that if I were to camp in Skogar for the night they would make some contacts and ship out the part I needed to arrive in Skogar that next morning at 7:50 am.

The part arrived just 10 hours after its destruction and I was back on the road after a peaceful and collective evening spent in Skogar. The hospitality of the Icelandic peoples and the efficiency of The Bike Company, along with the slight coincidence of it all made that experience quite memorable. Apart from this, the bike was amazing.

If thinking about visiting or cycling around Iceland, don't over think it, just go. The ease of travel and the simple beauty is far too good to pass up.

This was a fat biking four hour tour from Hvolsvöllur village (about 1.5 hours from Reykjavik). Our group were all experienced both road and mountain bikers, so we got done a bit quicker than four hours.

We biked on gravel roads primarily although due to the group's fitness and skill level, the guide added an extra section of single track to get to the top of a waterfall.

We rode through a stream and our feet got soaking wet. Be sure to bring dry shoes and socks for after the ride.

We saw beautiful countryside and the guide provided quite a bit of historical information.

Our guide was very nice and helpful. The people back at the Midgard building were so pleasant.

Five of us from NYC booked a 2-day/1-night custom tour with Bike Company that was simply amazing from beginning to end.

Anna Kristín Ásbjörnsdóttir and Kolbeinn Árnason were our guides. Anna did the driving and most of the logistics (just having come off of another intense tour) and Kolbeinn actually rode with us and guided us on our mountain biking trek. Both of them were beyond amazing. They enthusiastically introduced us to beautiful landscape that is Iceland and showed us some unbelievably beautiful terrain. We were a fairly diverse group in terms of skills but that didn't matter. They did a great job of finding both beautiful and challenging routes that met all of our needs and desires, and they were totally flexible in allowing people in our group to ride as long and as many routes as desired.

Kolbeinn guided us on the actual mountain biking routes and we all improved our mountain biking skills exponentially during the trip due to his patient and wise guidance.

After the first day of biking, the group met up with Anna who booked us a hut (i.e., a very nice cabin by US standards) out in a remote area of Iceland and prepared a delicious dinner that happily included cold beers, wine, and Icelandic vodka.

Both days of our trip were amazing and it would have been fun to go a longer trek. That said, in just the 2 days that we were out with Anna and Kolbeinn, we really got to experience the beauty and fun of Iceland. This trip ended up being one of our favorite international adventures because of Bike Company. They are a top-notch, professional company that cares about the land, loves their country and culture, and can't wait to share in their love with crazy tourists like us.

Thanks Anna and Kolbeinn! You were amazing! We hope to visit again soon. In the meantime, you are always welcome to NYC!

If you've never been to Iceland, and you ride a bike - The Bike Company is your ticket to what will be a top adventure of a lifetime. Seeing the high country by mountain bike is amazing, and these guys really know their stuff. Great local riders guide you to amazing single track, hot springs and place off the beaten path (if Iceland wasn't of the path enough). Super well organized. Great food. Great caring people. I've done organized trips all over the world and The Bike Company is at the top of the list. Incredible value.

All those amazing pictures of Iceland are really true; the scenery and landscape are mindblowing. And it turns out that sheep trails are really fun to ride! Bike Company did an excellent job handling all the details, allowing us to explore the rugged highlands of Iceland for six epic days: big climbs, stunning views, flowing trails, a few ripping descents, and it felt like we had the whole island to ourselves. Great fun, and truly a once in a lifetime experience.

My wife and I did a 1/2 day single track tour with Axel. He, the tour, and the bikes were awesome. Axel is a super knowledgeable guide who is also a competitive nordic skier when not biking. The bikes were new Trek full suspension bikes. We did 23 miles of mostly single track while having the occasional pit stop to learn about Iceland and the environment in which we were biking. It rained for about 1/2 the ride, and that did not matter at all.

To top it off, Axel had made us lunch to order - vegetarian sandwiches, Skyr yogurt, fruit. A nice touch!

Thanks Axel!

The tour begins by cycling from the Ble Lagoon (after a pick-up in Reykjavik) with a cycle to Eldvörp, a row of stunning craters, located northwest of the fishing village Grindavik. This magnificent and unforgettable area was used by the Apollo flight crew to practice moon walking. We continued cycling along the coastline to Grindavik, and from there to Cape Hópsnes, characterised by lighthouses, shipwrecks and pounding waves. Nice ! Afterwards, we cycle all the way back to the Blue Lagoon.to take a swim. Our guide Pétur was great - typical Icelandic, friendly, two feet on the ground, honest, helpful. Our bikes were brand new too !
One remark, yo can book this tour trough many other agencies, such as Arctic Adventures. this is not to be recommended, service is pour, so book directly !

Arnar and Benedict pulled off an epic bike tour on short notice! We saw such a great variety of Iceland landscape -- from boiling streams to glaciers to black sand desert to lava fields and more... But being with them was the best of all -- thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Coming there as an intermediate-level mountain biker, they definitely challenged me and I did things I never thought possible.

Which, in all modesty, says quite a bit, as we've been to Iceland several times. Our trip was amazing. After a short car ride from the centre of Reykjavik we could put our helmets on and start biking. We were not quite sure what to expect; as none of us had much experience with mountain biking we kinda felt that maybe this would be to difficult for us. Luckily we had the nicest guides ever. Friendly, funny and warm. We felt really safe in their guidenship. I believe their names were Peter (i wont try writing his name in icelandic) and Jonas. The fact that we were not really expeirenced, and thus quite slow didnt matter much. Maybe this would have been a problem if the group were less flexible, but we got signal to take the time we needed. The trip itself was unbelieveble. You really get to see the beatiful icelandic landescape, and we also could take some steps off the road to see some hot springs and other similar attractions. We really cant stress enough how nice the guides were, their flexibility is almost not overstateble. At one point, one of us were tired of bicycling near the river, as she would constantly have troubles crossing it, sometimes falling over. That was no problem at all, we can take an alternative route, they said. They also carried with them food and drinks for everybody, and were a great company. One in the group we were with was quit a lot faster and more experienced then us, but that posed no problems, which i guess we have to give him some credit for as well, if the guides or other participant had been less patient, the tour could have gotten uncomfortable. But, luckily, everything went smoothly and thus we rate this trip 5/5. Got a lot of good memories. Recommended for everyone who can ride a bike. Really, its that good.
