I can't recommend this trip highly enough. The company cancelled our first night because the weather was awful and from past experience, some of the larger bus tours ignore this and still go out, so we were impressed to start with. The next night the driver picked us up outside our hotel, there were 4 of us and another couple in the jeep, so only 6 in total. We went out of the city and met up with other jeeps from the tour but after 45 minutes or so the guides felt we should move on to a different location where it was less windy.
We drove in comfort Eastwards and eventually stopped at our second location. Again,we met the other jeeps and our driver Stefan checked on us regularly, making sure we were warm enough and running the engine for anyone who wanted to jump in for a quick warm.
The owner of the company then gathered us all together to keep us updated about the aurora forecast and served us with vodka and hot chocolate. He was very amusing and assured us that the more vodka we had, the better chance we had of seeing the lights. Funnily enough, about 10 minutes later we were told the aurora was on her way and we could see a faint blaze of light. Patience really pays off as we were then treated to the most spectacular display of dancing, swirling, beautiful lights, with silver, pink, purple and green all around the skies. The driver told us it was the best display of the season and even he had found it amazing, and he sees the lights most nights.
I haven't given this company a good review because we saw the lights; no one can guarantee they'll appear or what they'll look like if they do. In our case we were plain lucky and I know that. The good review is because the tour was fun, the drivers informative and attentive, and the owner took hundreds of photos of us as many times as we wanted and put them all on the website for us to access for free. The photos were stunning and as it's tricky to get good pictures, this was such a bonus for us as we now have beautiful momentos of our fabulous lights. The hot chocolate was good, the vodka was better, and admission to the Reykjavik Aurora Centre down in the harbour was included, and that is really worth a visit.
Yes, it's more expensive than the bog standard bus tour, but we were off-roading in the snow in places a bus could never access and were made to feel like special guests at the greatest show on earth. The drivers and the owner are so passionate and their excitement at the lights appearing was infectious.
I will never forget this night and would not hesitate to book superjeep.is when I eventually return to Iceland.

Absolutely fantastic day out with a wonderful tour guide Arnie.
This tour was not our original choice for the golden circle, but we booked it after bad weather meant our previous tour was cancelled. This turned out to be an absolute blessing and gave us the most memorable day of our holiday.
Arnie was really informative and passionate about his country and it's history, geography and culture. His stories and conversation were immediately settling for us all and we totally gelled as a group (there was one other couple in the jeep with us). Arnie then took us on a whistle stop tour of everything that could be seen on the golden circle tour, including a wonderful stop off at a unique tomato farm and restaurant.
Cannot recommend this company and its tour highly enough.

We visited Iceland for our honeymoon in the hope of seeing the northern lights and booked a tour through superjeep based on a recommendation from a friend. We ended up going on three of the tours with a different tour guide each evening, all were very friendly and informative! You are taken up into the mountains surrounding Reykjavík to get away from the city light pollution and try and find a clear sky which is an amazing experience in itself! On the first night we didn’t manage to see any lights and on our second go saw a faint light but superjeep said we could give it another go and we were so glad we did. On the last night of our trip we saw an incredible light show and all down to the hard work, patience and persistence of the super jeep staff! Our camera battery died but superjeep take enough photos for everyone which you can access for free the next day. Couldn’t recommend superjeep enough, thank you for making our honeymoon!

We booked this tour several months ahead when we booked the holiday. By shear luck we picked a clear night, the stars were so bright and we saw the Aurora although you see it clearer on a photo than the naked eye. The following 2 nights it was overcast so could have missed it so easily. Superjeep were brilliant searching for the optimum place to see the lights and in my opinion worth spending the extra money over a coach trip to get the service they provide plus all the supporting information as well as the hot chocolate with a shot of rum in it. A coach could not have got where we ended up. The supporting Aurora experience in Reykjavik is also well worth visiting which gives you more information and was a part of our ticket deal.

One of the main hopes for our trip to Iceland this February was to try to see the Northern Lights and we had booked a private tour with Superjeep to try to accomplish this. On the night of our tour, our daughter was not feeling feel so she didn't go.
Our driver Oli was wonderful and seemed really knowledgeable in coming up with a plan on where to go to increase our chances of seeing the lights. We were lucky - it was only about an hour into the tour and the lights appeared. It wasn't the most spectacular appearance but we saw them! Oli also had a camera and took pictures for us (we were struggling with our camera) and Superjeep provided hot chocolate (with or without vodka) which was nice to have on a cold night.
Later in the week, there was another night that Superjeep was running the Northern Lights tours (they run it only if there is a change to see them) and our daughter was feeling better so we booked another tour with Superjeep in the hopes that she would also be able to see them. We were thrilled that Oli was our driver again. This time it took a couple of hours and required driving through a few locations (including going off-road and through snow and wind) but through Oli's knowledge and perserverance, we ended up at a location where we were treated to a spectacular Northern Lights show. It truly felt like a once in a lifetime experience.
Cannot thank Oli enough and Superjeep is definitely the way to go if you are looking for a Nothern Lights tour!

After reading Trip Advisor reviews of the SuperJeep Northern Lights Tour, we did not hesitate to book it! I have to admit, the thought of warm and comforting hot chocolate spiked with vodka was also a draw. We booked our tour early in our vacation, as per many suggestions, and we did have to cancel our first attempt due to weather. Our second attempt went perfectly! Erik, our driver, kept us entertained with stories and jokes as he collected all 6 passengers for a ride away from the city lights and into the dark mountains. We were soon joined by 3 other Super Jeeps, and the leader set up a tripod and camera to photograph each of us with the blazing green swirls above, which he later shared with us via Dropbox. A surprising bonus was a photo of the Lights with Yoko Ono's tribute to John Lennon--"The Imagine Peace Tower of Light". Apparently, this beam into the Heavens shines from John's birthday on October 9th, until the day he was shot, December 8th. We were glad we were there to witness it, as we sipped our spiked hot chocolates!

We landed early Sunday morning and were met at the airport then taken to the blue lagoon by Malrus who waited for us. The blue lagoon was amazing and when we had finished, he was waiting to take us to our hotel. A very polite and knowledgeable Icelandic gentleman.
Later that evening we were collected at our hotel by Ants in the big wheeled Landrover Defender for our northern lights hunt. Ants was a great character with a perfect blend of knowledge and humour and he made our adventures in Iceland an even more incredible experience! The northern lights were truly amazing and the sky was clear.
The next day we started the golden circle tour, some beats breathtaking scenery including the geyser, national park, waterfalls and a drive up into the mountains for our snowmobile ride on the glacier, loved it!
Day 3 we headed for more waterfalls, glacial lagoon and diamond beach, a long drive out but a once in a lifetime experience.
Overall superjeep were professional, punctual and the experience with them really made our break what it was. We paid extra for a private tour (vehicle for the 4 of us) which was worth the extra, Ants even took us to the test clinic for a fit to fly test for one of our party.
When arranging this almost a year prior to the trip, the support, communication and service from the superjeep team was top notch, Ragnar and Sims thank you 🙏🏼
When we return to Iceland we will use superjeep again and will also recommend the country and superjeep to all our friends and family.

We got picked up right outside our hotel and brought to 2 locations where we saw and photgraphed the Northern Lights. The tour lasted 4 hours and the drivers made a real effort to find clear skies. Our driver, Magnus, was very friendly and kept us informed during the whole tour. Stefan also gave us great tips on how to get clear photos. Finally, the vodka infused hot chocolate was great.
A few drawbacks: the Superjeep was incredibly noisy. Think a plane, but significantly louder, with a very noisy pump kicking in periodically to re-level the suspension. Bring ear plugs or noise cancelling headphones. Secondly, my seat belt didn't work.

Booked tour to see the northern lights using Superjeep as the reviews were great and our daughter recommended using them from previous experience. Obviously this tour is weather dependent and there are no guarantees that there will be a light display however we had booked about 3 weeks in advance and on arriving at the airport, Keflavik , it was a beautiful clear day. The weather forecast was showing visability very good with clear skies. We had booked for our first night as recommended but at 3pm that afternoon received an email to say the tour was not running! We were surprised and disappointed but opted to transfer to the following night. This too was cancelled and when we asked why the previous night had been cancelled we were told that clouds were forecast! The next day when on a different tour we met a couple who told us they had been on the northern lights on our original night but with a different tour company. They showed us fantastic photos of the light display and raved about the incredible experience. As you can imagine we were upset and annoyed that we had been cheated out of this experience, one of the highlights of visiting Iceland. I have sent a message to Superjeep but they have not replied or apologised or offered an explanation. They have very promptly refunded the money however ! I would have preferred the tour ! Extremely disappointed and frankly wouldn't recommend using a company that treats its customers so badly!

We did 2 tours with Superjeep, Northern Lights Hunt and the Golden Circle. We set off with no expectations in a modified Land Rover Defender chasing the Northern Lights. It took us 2 hours to find the lights and it was definitely worth the wait. The guides were great and the hot chocolate and vodka were very welcome as it was so cold - make sure you have your thermals on. We also went on the Golden Circle tour. Our guide Sio was a fantastic driver, he literally drove us up to the top of a mountain over the snow. We stood on top of the mountain and there was only snow for as far as the eye could see, it was a truly exhilarating experience. We drove off road as much as we were able to, but at no time did we feel scared, as we had total confidence in Sio. This was the highlight of the tour, as we were a little underwhelmed by the Geysir, and the Gulfoss waterfall was frozen in parts so Sio took us to a smaller but still breathtaking waterfall a few miles away. Superjeep also picked us from the airport and took us back via the Blue Lagoon, which was a relaxing experience, but felt a little commercial and crowded after our other experiences. Cannot recommend Superjeep highly enough. The drivers/guides were all prompt, friendly, knowledgeable, but most of all they made the trips fun. It was our first visit to Iceland but think we will be coming back.

How many people would be in the car at once? I worry about getting travel sick?
Written October 1, 2021
It depends on the booking. In our particular excursion, one passenger did experience motion sickness. She sat in the front seat and it still did not help. There were parts of the journey that were taken on bumpy roads. Dramamine or another motion sickness medication is highly recommended for any passenger that may experience motion sickness

If the forecasted aurora level is at 2 which is considered the Low activity range, is it still worth to join the superjeep tour to catch the light?
Written September 27, 2018
Yes, as long as the sky is free and clear of clouds! We saw the best and biggest aurora display with a level 2 forecast for the night.

Actually you can rebook the tour again (free of charge) if you cannot see the northern lights in the first trip.

What is the duration of this tour?

Hi - when I google super jeep tour of northern lights there are many companies that claim to offer but only one is actually called super jeep. The prices range to a difference of about $50 for super jeep trips with identical descriptions. Are these all the same company or do different companies offer super jeep tours? Thank you!

What time is the pickup from the hotel in September/ October?
Thanks!!!
Written October 19, 2017
Hi,
sorry, I wasn't on TripAdvisor for a while, so it was only now that I saw your message - hopefully it's not too late, sorry if it is. Anyway, the pick-up was schedulet to start at 8:30, our driver picked us up in central Reykjavik exactly at that time.
Hope you've had/are gonna have a great time in Iceland!

Hi, I am considering a solo trip to Iceland near the end of October, 2017. Would I have a good chance of seeing the Northern Lights at this time? I will be by myself but don't mind going with other people. Is that a possibility and what is the approximate cost? Thank you.
Written April 18, 2017
Gosi's answer is spot on. With SuperJeep, they do their best to make sure you see the Northern Lights. If you don't see them on your first time out, they will take you out again!
I also recommend as you get closer to your travel days that you do a search for Northern Light tracker. The one I used and a guide told me to check was "en vedur is". If the conditions are a 3 or above, your chances will be much better. Keep in mind this is conditions for the Northern Lights APPEARING. You still need clear spots of sky to see them, so that's where the pesky weather comes into play.
Good luck!
