My husband and I had originally booked the Vestmann Island tour, but as you might expect when visiting Iceland in the winter, the weather had other ideas. When the ferry got cancelled the owner offered their great circle tour instead - and yet the weather wouldn't even let us do that, blowing vehicles off the road.
The owner instead picked us up at our hotel and gave us a six hour private tour of Reykjavik and the surrounding areas. Having driven taxi for 30 years in the capital area, Magnus not only knew where everything was, he knew stories about everything we passed. We saw much of the capital area and all the main sights, and even took a trip out to Bessastaðir, the official residence of the Icelandic President. He also paid our way into two museums.
While I was sad the weather conspired to keep us from Westmann, I couldn't have asked for a better tour of the capital area, or a better tour guide.

Magnus Kjartansson made our trip. The tour is a bit more expensive than most and we were concerned about that at first but Leon, our hotel attendant kept telling us it was 'worth every penny and a high quality tour.' HE WAS RIGHT! Magnus is lovely. He is a local that knows Iceland like the back of his hand. We not only saw the obligatory sights, such as all the amazing waterfalls, glacier lagoon etc, even getting to walk behind one... but he also took us up a hill to a lighthouse to look over miles of black beaches, took us to see a giant cave lined with basalt columns, up to one of the edge of one of the glaciers and to see, up close one of the enormous bore holes releasing steam. Plus much more. He was fun, informative and when we came across a tour bus, at lunch time, we had already made 4 or 5 stops and they had made only 2. SO BOOK WITH MAGNUS! He is worth every penny! There were four of us and we were all in total agreement that all the special stops he made for us were what made it the best tour of our week. Thanks Magnus.

We saw everything on the list, calm and friendly staff making this a very well organised and happy experience. Ending at the blue lagoon perfect to see the sun set its a fantastic event. Try to book your blue lagoon ticket as soon as possible if not you can get it with the organisers but you need to ask at time of booking or call as we did.

This tour was fantastic! Magnus was a great guide, with stories and secret spots along the route. The weather was rainy and cold, so everyone else cancelled, and we ended up with a private tour! The waterfalls were spectacular and the Secret Lagoon was so relaxing. We ran into 2 girls out in the countryside that had rented a tent and couldn't figure out how to put it up, and were near their breaking point, as the company wasn't answering their phone and it was getting late. While other tour operators might not even be bothered, Magnus made sure we didn't mind if the tour ran later than expected, and with our okay, we all pitched in and got the girl's tent up. He then made sure we still had enough time at our stops, so that we never felt rushed. He was entertaining, kind and professional. Highly recommended.

An New Years Day, we took a Golden Circle and Blue Lagoon tour with Green Energy Travel! We liked it because it was going to be a smaller, more personal tour -- and we got just that! We loved our tour guide, and we had a fantastic tour! As we were driving, my daughter saw some Icelandic horses and commented, and our tour guide just stopped and let us have a few moments with the horses! You would not get that kind of service in a bigger tour. He also took us to several smaller sights that would not be included in bigger tours! Highly recommend this group, we had a fabulous day!

Evening Golden Circle and the Secret Lagoon: Nice small group, only 7 people total of 16 max. It would have been very crowded with 16 on the 16 passenger mini bus.
Pros: With small group, the guide was very flexible, and personable. The Secret Lagoon visit was a nice ending for a cold windy day.
Cons: Guide could have provided a little more info at the sites, rather than a brief into in the bus, then a "I'll drop you off here, meet me in the parking lot when you are done looking around". It felt a bit rushed, but I know our guide was trying to beat the 4pm sunset with a 1pm tour start.
The sites breathtaking sites speak for themselves of course, and go see them, whoever the tour company is.

We scheduled two different all day tours: Snæfellsnes Tour and combination Golden Circle/Waterfall Mania Tour. Each day, our guide Magnus picked us up promptly from outside our apartment. As we headed out of town he provided great stories including snippets of Icelandic Sagas and local folklore along with history of what we were going to see and on our second day expanded more on what we learned on the first day.
Our first tour was the Snæfellsnes Tour which was full of amazing scenery, tons of local stories and a great stop for lunch. We added the option to take the cave visit (lots of stairs, only a few steps of crouching, no crawling required) and Magnus managed to time our arrival just right so that we didn’t have to wait for it to start. While he couldn’t control the weather, we experienced snow, rain and sun over the course of the day which managed to change the scenery so that the return trip was different than the way out.
Our second tour was a mash-up of the Golden Circle and Waterfall Mania because we really couldn’t decide which one we wanted to do and the road conditions were such that we wouldn’t be able to get to all of the waterfalls on the Waterfall Mania tour. Being a small group tour with just the four of us, we were able to adjust each tour as we saw fit (longer here, shorter there), that and being able to take bathroom breaks when we needed to. Magnus was informative and entertaining while the sights and views he took us to were breathtaking.

We had a group of four and enjoyed a fantastic day out to the Golden Circle and Blue Lagoon. Magnus our guide picked us up promptly at our cruise ship terminal and provided us with a tour that took in as many of the main sights as possible during our 9 hour timeframe. He was very informative and had a great personality. Many of the other tour companies that we made inquiries with were unwilling to do both the Golden Circle and Blue Lagoon within our timeframe, but Magnus was very accomodating and flexible with our travel plans.
We were extremely happy with his service and thought the cost of the tour was great value for money.
I would definitely recommend his services. Thanks again Magnus !

We had an interesting day with Green Energy Travel.
The email communications were good at first, but the information on the website turned out to be out of date, so the prices quoted on the website were way lower than the actual price. We got no time for pick up and no suggestions for attire. Supposedly a subsequent email was sent, but although I got the earlier ones regarding price and date, this email did not arrive.
Magnus is efficient and gave us lots of information during the drive. He let us know that he hadn't done this tour in about 8 years, which was a little worrisome to us, but he said he'd gone there yesterday to remind himself of the route.
The lava tube was very cool, the hot springs excellent, and the trip along the coast and out to the lighthouse was beautiful. The end of the tour was our drive to the airport, and we arrived at the perfect time. We paid him the price that was originally given to me by email, although he said it should have been 5000ISK more. I'm glad I had the email to confirm.

My friend Pat and I enjoyed a very full day touring the Golden Circle, we were only staying for one weekend and we are delighted with how much we managed to pack into just one day. Magnus took us to all the usual highlights plus a few extras and lots of stories and information, we felt our senses were in overload, what a fantastic country, a fantastic experience and a fantastic guide - Thankyou!
