We did the Golden Circle Super Jeep tour and what an experience we had. Our guide, Helgi, was simply excellent! Unlike all the other guides we have experienced in Iceland, he wouldn't talk for the sake of it, and would allow us to take in...More

We booked this excursion through TUI in January. The tour with Mountaineers of Iceland began at Gullfoss where they took us in a large truck to "base camp", but we hadn't seen any snow yet. When we entered there were employees there to find correct...More

This was supposed to be one of the highlights of our trip to Iceland and we were really looking forward to this, but was actually highly disappointing. We paid £250 each for a 2 hour bus ride from Reykjavik to Husafell where we were picked...More

Very disappointed in the snowmobile experience..paid £250 for 15 mins ride up and 15 mins ride down from the ice cave .wouldn't recommend as the ice cave bus drives straight to the entrance.

The ‘Ice Cave Snow Cat’ experience was due to commence at 10:00 from the Gulfoss parking area, next to the beautiful Gulfoss Falls. We arrived fifteen minutes early as requested as per the website. We didn’t board the impressive multi-terrain coach until 10:20, behind a...More

I wanted to enjoy this so badly. I really did. Booking was easy - price seems fair. However - the disorganization is hard to overstate. We were picked up outside the bathrooms at the Gullfoss visitor center. Easy to find - which is good. We...More

What an amazing tour you guys had. We are very pleased to hear everything went according to plan and that you had such good weather. You are more than welcome to come back when you come back to Iceland.

We were lucky in that our reservation was missed a replacement driver was sent almost immediately after the company Mountaineers of Iceland knew of the problem. Our driver was brilliant so chatty and knew all about the area and the film locations and the vehicle...More

Thank you for your review. It´s awesome to hear you had such a pleasant tour. The Icelandic roads can be tricky to handle but with spiked tires and loads of patience, they are manageable. We are sad reading about your unfortunate event at the Secret...More

Way too much money for such little time on the snowmobile. Very little interaction/information with the guide on the very long ride to the glacier. The truck kept having to stop, turn off, and restart again (a bit unnerving). And then the tour guide didn't...More

Thank you for your review. The weather for this holiday season was not a friend of ours and on those days the operation can get tricky in the Icelandic highlands. We want to apologize for your experience and the lack of organization regarding the Secret...More

Hey there! A fully valid UK license is sufficient as long as the driver has reached the 18-year-old drivers limit in Iceland. Regards from the glacier! Asgeir

Booking tours (7 Replies)
Hi, We have just returned from Iceland and have had a fantastic time. I would like to recommend that if anyone is looking to book any tours, then we found it better to use a local guide in their own vehicle. Not only did this work out cheaper for us, but was alot more personal and informative. To be honest it beat the hell out of being stuck on a bus with loads of other people being herded around like sheep. If you're interested, the guides we used are: Mike Kissane of...More

Northern Lights Snowmobile Tour from Gullfoss (3 Replies)
Hi. My fiance and I will be going to Iceland for our honeymoon in Feb 2019. The night snowmobiling tour from Mountaineers of Iceland is a must do for us. Our home base during our stay is in Reykjavik, but we really want to experience the snowmobiling at night. The issue is getting from Reykjavik to Gullfoss. Is it recommended to take a taxi (expensive)? I have heard that renting a car in Icelandic winter is dangerous (from Texas so not used to winter driving). What options do we have? It...More

If you are no expert winter drivers you don't have a lot of options and may have to be creative. The easiest, but very expensive option would be to take a taxi from Reykjavík. You could also contact Mountaineers of Iceland and ask if they can arrange transport for an extra fee and how high that would be. The last option I could think of is to contact Hotel Gullfoss and ask them if they offer any transfer service for their guests in winter to the hotel and maybe to the falls and if they do,...More
Excursions priced in Euros, not Krona (17 Replies)
I've noticed that some excursions are quoted in Euros, not Krona. So in reality Iceland is not cheaper for tourists, rather it is getting insanely expensive for locals. Is this correct? Or are there 2 prices for everything, one for locals and another for tourists. For example, I was checking out Mountaineers of Iceland Adventure Tours. I definatly want to go the Nothern Lights Hunt, but at 185euros per person, I feel like they are making a huge profit by charging Euros. If they had kept...More

No, there are not "tourist prices" and "local prices". Do remember that us "locals" will rarely, if ever, take a "tour". I think the reason why prices are changing into Euros is straightforward - many of these tours are booked in advance by groups, travel agents and individuals. Like all of us here, tour operators have no idea how costs will change over the next 12-14 months (i.e. until the end of 2009) because they have no idea how the króna will devalue, or even if it will still be in...More
