We had a weeklong family trip to Iceland in Sept booked through Kensington Tours, which uses Eskimos as their local tour guides, and we loved it! We were lucky to have Ragnar as our guide, and despite weather challenges forcing some adjustments to the itinerary, and some very long days for him on the road, he kept his sense of humor and was great the whole time. He is very knowledgeable, easy-going, told good stories, took us to all the places we wanted to go (going above and beyond to make it happen), and made it great fun. He made the (smart) decision to change our vehicle to a more compact, less high one, given the gale-force winds, and drove skillfully through it all. We highly recommend Ragnar and Eskimos! Thanks, Ragnar!! (And greetings from California and South Africa!) :)

My husband and I went on the husky style dog sledding tour during a five night stay in Iceland. We were collected from our accomodation by an extremely friendly and informative guide and driven to the base camp. Once there, we were introduced to each of the beautiful dogs and given time to take photographs before setting off on the fantastic sledding experience. Afterwards we were treated to a hot chocolate and more time with the dogs before heading to a lovely local geothermal pool. For me, it was the highlight of our trip and I would recommend Eskimos to anyone travelling to Iceland. Thank you

The only thing that spoiled the whole experience of enjoying Iceland was our dealings with the company called Eskimos. We booked the dog sledding tour with them and they charged us 73000 Kronas for the trip which lasted about 2 hours from door to door. 50% of this amount goes to Eskimos who only take the order and organise the transport to the site (25 minutes from Reykjavik) where other company (dogsledding.is) actually run the dogs. Our fault! We didn't shop around and look into other options. Another tour we went on we booked with Icelimo Luxury Travel . And it was one of the best trips we've ever had. Lasted almost 12 hours and was packed with incredible experiences. Our guide/driver was Greg Vajdic who is not just a real professional, but also a great person to talk to and learn from. This tour cost us 67,800 Kronas for 2 including dinner! Go with Icelimo Luxury Travel, they organise any kind of tours available in Iceland and avoid the frustration of feeling that you were cheated, as we did after our experience with Eskimos.

Terrible! Please stay away from these people. They overcharge for everything and schedule multiple things in the same day so you never get to see it all and waste your time and money. They schedules the golden circle WITH the snowmobile adventure the same day! The golden circle takes 8 hours and the snowmobile takes 5. They know this and still book it together you never experience the whole thing because both things clash. The next day three was a snowstorm, but instead of cancelling like other tour operators do, they still send the driver and even though he sits there and does nothing they still charge you. Wasted a lot of money with them and cannot stress enough how imperative it is for you to stay away from Eskimos.

I am currently on a golden circle tour arranged by Eskimos even though it is done by mountaineer even though we didn't know this. The whole time the guide hasn't said a word we don't even know his name as he hasn't introduced himself.

We were meant to do snowmobiling but it was cancelled due to bad weather so we did quad biking instead which was ok. But since then we have just driven to places with no explanation or even idea of where we are going.

We booked our private Golden Circle tour for 4 with a snowmobiling add-on through Eskimo as they were able to offer the best pricing. From Day 1, everyone at Eskimo was extremely responsive and did not hesitate to answer my 1000+1 questions about the trip. Due to some e-mail confusion, Eskimo did not have us confirmed on the day of the trip... but no problem! Not only did they correct this immediately, but they also upgraded us to a Super Jeep for the entire trip for free. That was a major perk.

Jonas was our tour guide and he was fantastic. He gave us all the information we wanted, but also knew when we wanted to have our own private conversations and let us chat. The trip itself was unforgettable - we saw some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. Beyond the waterfall, the geysers and the lava fields, a real highlight was being able to drink from a stream without sterilizing or filtering the water. This sounds crazy but I assure you, it's delicious and unmatched. If you have the opportunity to do this, DO IT! And go through Eskimo tours. You will not be disappointed.

We were looking for a private 7 day tour of Iceland for our family of 7. Having limited time, we concentrated on southern Iceland, the Golden Circle, and Thorsmork. We booked our travel through Jacada Travel and Eskimos is their partner in Iceland. Once we landed, we were immediately picked up in a luxurious Mercedes van by Ragnar, our guide for the next 4 days. In short, Ragnar was absolutely amazing. He quickly learned our desire to see and do as much as possible in the time we had and he did not disappoint. In Reykjavik, we were treated to a walking tour through the city with a lot of explanations, stories, etc., from Ragnar. He was obviously very knowledgeable and had many stories to share. We had also opted for a “foodie tour” and Ragnar took us to several restaurants for a taste of traditional Icelandic dishes. All were excellent (although some of us may disagree as far as the fermented shark and dried fish jerky are concerned!).
After two days in Reykjavik, we departed for the countryside in southern Iceland. Again, Ragnar was an amazing guide, showing us so many beautiful sites (glaciers, glacier lagoons, waterfalls, volcanos, etc.), and spending much more time with us than he was obligated to do. Two of our days wound up being 12 hour days and we were thankful for Ragnar’s desire to spend so much time with us.
After Ragnar’s time with us, Omar spent two days with us, touring in a heavily modified and luxurious 4x4. This enabled us to visit many sites that would be impossible with a typical vehicle. Omar was also a fantastic guide, so knowledgeable in Icelandic history and culture. In addition to visiting Geysir and the many sites of the Golden Circle, Omar took us to our glacier snowmobiling excursion. This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. The experience of being on top of a mountain on top of a glacier, with the panoramic 360 degree views, was amazing. We all said we would like to do this again someday.
Thorsmork was a rugged mountain ridge and valley that is best explored by 4x4. Omar was a great guide here, showing us many sites and leading us on hikes through the remnants of glacier lakes, glaciers, waterfalls, and the like.
When the time came for us to leave for the airport for our trip home, Ragnar picked us up and made sure we were delivered to KEF on time.
It’s hard to imagine we could have enjoyed our time in Iceland more and Eskimos did a fantastic job!

I booked with these guys in a last minute panic to secure a private tour. They were great! I spoke with a couple of people in the office (mostly Katrin) who were very helpful and informative, and kept me up to date with everything regarding the tour. I had also made a special request that the guide play along and pretend that the standard tour was overbooked so that my partner didn't get suspicious as to why our tour was now just the two of us in a 4x4 when she was expecting the group tour.

The company arranged for Ragnar to be our guide and he was better than could be expected. A true gent, he took us on the tour and was a pleasure to talk to, being a well-travelled and interesting guy who had a positive attitude towards the hunt for the lights and an appreciation of the same despite having seen them countless times.

Ragnar made every effort to stop in places where no other tour buses would be so that we could enjoy the lights and, after an hour or so, he took us to a secluded area with a small bridge crossing from one tectonic plate to the other (Eurasia to North America). There, in no man's land beneath the dancing lights and the starry sky I proposed to my (now) fiancé. Ragnar (who picked the destination - I cannot take credit) then came over to congratulate us and brought champagne and chocolates, none of which I had requested but which was an extremely thoughtful and welcome touch. We were lucky enough to see the lights and, whilst the private tours are quite pricey, they're memorable and make for a much more personal experience.

I cannot recommend this company highly enough - they will do their best to make sure you have a great time in Iceland, including going a step further than most tour companies would ever do!!

Thanks!! :)

I would love to be able to tell you that I had a fantastic time on my dog sledding trip but unfortunately I am not able to as I never actually got to go. Our trip was booked around 4 days in advance but they waited until the day we were due to go to inform us that the guide was sick and so the trip was cancelled. They advised that the guide would be better on Friday ( how amazing they can predict the future!) but as we leave on Friday at 5am, this was of no use to us. The trip was the first thing we booked when we arrived as it was the thing I wanted to do most, so we booked it in for my birthday as a birthday treat (seeing as even the basic package was around £300 for 2 people) but unfortunately we have been let down.
I find it unbelievable that there is only 1 person who can operate this trip and that the whole thing falls apart if they are not well, and looking at some of the other reviews, this is not the first time the trips have been cancelled / moved due to the guide being sick.
All in all I am very disappointed with the service we received.

Hi Yvonne, Thanks for the feedback. I‘m really sad to read this post, and no need to say that this feeling is shared by the rest of our office. It‘s always good to get customers reviews, good or bad, and we take them very seriously. I just feel that we need to precise a few things for you and for all the future eskimos' guests. First of all this booking hasn not been handled directly through us since it has been booked through a local booking office, we have never been in contact with you directly until the 10th of january (actually after you posted this request) when you tried to re-book this tour last minute (see below). Just to let you know how this operation works, we have a guide from Eskimos picking up people and driving/guiding guests to the Dog Sledding camp, where 4 mushers are stationed at now, to take tours and take care of the dogs. I will just sum up what happened : Saturday 5th of January : we get the booking request from a local booking office downtown, for a tour on wed. 9th of January at 11:30 and we confirm the tour. Wednesday 9th of January : we get a phone call around 10:00-10:30 in the morning from the camp, letting us know that the 4 mushers were really ill (I will skip the details). Just so you know there has been an epidemic in Iceland, and having suffered from it myself and 2 other members of my family, I can say that it‘s not a fun thing. You don‘t have to trust me, but this is what happened and we can‘t really predict this kind of things. We called your accommodation, apartment K, immediately, and they gave us your apartment phone number, which we called, several times, and no answer. So we called the booking office that booked the tour. We asked for your direct number and first they said they did not have it. 20min later another woman called back letting us know they found it and that they will try to reach you directly, which they must have since we did not hear anything from them after that. Later that day we received an email (at 16:55 to be exact), from your husband, asking to reschedule. Just so you know our office is closed at 17:00 (we just have an emergency booking number opened until 20:00), and we have loads of email every day, so unfortunately one of our agent saw your email only in the morning the next day, and called our guide list (those that were not already booked that day) to try to get a guide last minute only for you. It works sometimes, but not always and not that day, therefore we could not take you on a tour on the 10th. Now just to speak about your review / our service : 1. „Our trip was booked around 4 days in advance but they waited until the day we were due to go to inform us that the guide was sick and so the trip was cancelled.“ : we did our best to inform you as soon as we got the information from the camp that the mushers were sick, and tried to reschedule, but once more, we could not speak to you directly... we can‘t really predict this kind of thing 2. „I find it unbelievable that there is only 1 person who can operate this trip and that the whole thing falls apart if they are not well „ There‘s not 1 person that can take the tour, there are 4 musher at now (sometimes more, sometimes less) and we need a licensed driver guide to take you there. When the mushers are sick, then we can‘t definitely operate the dog sledding unfortunately. 3. „and looking at some of the other reviews, this is not the first time the trips have been cancelled / moved due to the guide being sick“: true, it happened only once... still that was a 5* review and the client was really happy. 4. „All in all I am very disappointed with the service we received“ : How can you review our level of service since you haven‘t booked with us directly and we never spoke to you directly? Yvonne, I think this review is just an impulsive reaction to a big disappointment, which I perfectly understand. But you have to know that this has a direct impact on our business, where quite a few people work, from office persons, to guides, sweating all year, days and nights, week-ends and holidays to give the best experience to guests no matter what happens in our unpredictable island. I really don't think this review belongs here since you did not book with us directly and you can't judge our level of service. Despite all the above mentioned, I hope you had a nice stay in our beautiful island. Wish you all the best, Kind regards, Jean-Didier RAOUL

We booked a weekendtrip to reykjavik for our 30th birthday, my twin sister and I. We desperately wanted to go dogsledding. Eskimos was the only company who was able to arrange this for us. We couldn't go on the gletser because of the erupted vulcano last year. But we did a tour on gravel and it was great, especially the quality time with the dogs. So eskimos thanks for the experience and for informing us prior to our trip about the tour.
