Just completed my 3rd tour with Iceland Luxury Tours, this time focusing on the West Fjords. The entire experience was exceptional from start to finish, as always. Although there are suggested itineraries on the website for planning purposes, all tours are customizable, as mine was.
The West Fjords are “remote” and give plenty of opportunity to enjoy nature and scenic views with very few cars and people. Iceland is truly the land of 10,000 waterfalls (don’t miss Dynjandi in the West) and 1,000 fjords as well as unique wildlife including Puffins, Arctic Fox, Eagle, Seals, and numerous bird / duck species. It’s also the land of some 1-of-a-kind roads including Kjaransbraut (route 622) which is worth the drive, but only in good weather, low tide, a larger 4x4, and with some nerves of steel.
Back near Reykjavik, the drive and hike up to see the Fagradalsfjall Volcanic eruption is well worth the time and effort. While the lava field is an easy walk from the car, views of the spewing liquid magma can only be seen after a ~1000 foot climb up. Helicopter tours are also available but actual viewing timing is 30 minutes at best. Walking provides the flexibility to spend as much time as you want with panoramic views not just of the volcano but the surrounding shoreline as well.
Stefan was my guide for a second time. He’s super knowledgeable about so many topics and does a great job planning the itinerary and each day. He’s also a very safe driver and has experience driving most of the “edgy” roads of Iceland (of which there are many). Had a fantastic time!

We are so happy that you enjoyed the Westfjords which we think are amazing. Unfortunately we usually can not include them in a regular few day tour of Iceland because how remote they are. To do the Westfjords properly we need 4-5 days as you know. But as you also know, it is definitely worth it. I'm glad we could fit in the helicopter flight to Fagradalsfjall volcano for another perspective from the volcano hike. We are very impressed with this company. They are responsive and customer centric. All arrangements were made via email. Kristin responded to my inquiry about a tour in Iceland. She asked about our preferences and then put together an itinerary that takes us all around the island to experience the wonders and beauty of nature. She did an excellent job picking hotels for us to stay along the way. Hotels were unique and top of the line.
We did a 9 day road trip around Iceland. Daily activities were just right. Stefan, our guide planned our day so that we were not sitting in the vehicle for long periods of time. He is very knowledgeable- about the places we visit, history and culture. He patiently answered all our questions. We got to see off the beaten path places too. An added bonus was seeing the Northern Lights. Thanks to Stefan! He took us out after dinner one night and found the best spot to watch it.
The vehicle we used was well maintained, comfortable and equipped for the changing weather and road conditions. We felt safe and confident driving around for 9 days.

Our family of four (two adults, two teens) did a five day tour with Iceland Luxury Tours. It was fantastic! The accommodations were perfect, and our guides were helpful, engaging, and relaxed. We saw a lot and did not feel overloaded. This was a great way to experience Iceland for the first time.

My husband and I just spent several unforgettable days traveling around Iceland with Ivar, our very trustworthy guide from Iceland Luxury Tours. I took many photos and videos on this trip, which I'm now organizing into an extensive blog series. As I'm doing so, I'm overwhelmed by everything we saw and did while we were in Iceland. It really was an incredible trip, even though the weather was pretty brutal at times.
Iceland Luxury Tours planned everything for us from start to finish. The only thing I had to do was buy the plane tickets. We told them our likes and dislikes, and they organized a tour that offered us glimpses of places we never would have been able to see on our own. Everything was first class, and handled seamlessly.
Ivar was endlessly patient, professional, and kind. I genuinely enjoyed meeting him, and he was excellent company throughout our five days together in the very cool Toyota Land Cruiser! I was especially grateful that Ivar was able to borrow a step stool for my husband and me, since we're both short and not so spry anymore. That made getting in and out of the Land Cruiser a lot easier! Ivar was also good about stopping for food, shopping, and potty breaks, which was very much appreciated... and he listened to me run my mouth, which in itself is quite a feat!
Although this tour was expensive, my husband and I both feel like it was money well spent. I think we'll be thinking and talking about this trip for a long time... and I will be putting up lots of content on my travel blog and YouTube to document this fascinating vacation. I don't know what prompted me to choose Iceland Luxury Tours, or even what made me think of hiring a guide/driver, since we'd never done it before... but I am so glad we got in touch. Hiring ILT really made a HUGE difference in the quality of our trip, which was a bucket list destination for both of us. I hope someday we can come back to Iceland. If we do come back, I wouldn't hesitate to hire Iceland Luxury Tours again.

Our February trip with Iceland Luxury Tours was the most stress free, well organized trip we’ve ever taken! Every part was amazing and well above expectations.
With Stefan as our guide, we saw everything we had hoped and more. Besides all of the amazing sites we visited, I feel we got a real idea of what Iceland and its people are all about.
We can’t wait to return for a summer trip in the next couple of years and won’t dream of doing it without Iceland Luxury Tours!

When people ask me if they should come in the summer or winter I always say both because it's like two different countries altogether plus the highlands are more accessible in the summertime. We had a six-day tour during which we saw many things, including the Golden Circle, the South Coast, the Glacier Lagoon, the Svartifoss Hike. Our guide Stefan was amazing. A wonderful person, very knowledgeable and he adjusted to our needs during the trip. We learned a lot about Iceland and we saw amazing places. We will certainly come back and use Iceland Luxury Tours again. Thank you so much for organizing this unique experience for us!

Visited Iceland in April with friends. Had an absolutely amazing day out with Svienn. His knowledge is fantastic and quite clearly loves his job and country. Going off road on the glacier was the highlight of the day but also enjoyed the Tomato farm, National park, geyser and the falls. Would recommend and hope to go back one day to see more of Iceland

We had an amazing day in the Highlands of Iceland with Sveinn! The scenery was breathtaking, from majestic mountains to crystal clear rivers, places we would never have discovered on our own. Sveinn made the experience even more special thanks to his impressive knowledge of his country. He told us fascinating anecdotes about Iceland, stories not found in tourist guides! I have never dealt with any tour group that is so understanding and honest in their approach. I was supposed to tour with Iceland Luxury tours in August, I was at the boarding gate when my daughter developed stomach cramps and could not board the flight. I called Svien and the response i received was beyond my expectations. Not only was he understanding of my situation but I was not charged for any cancelation cost from his side.
We rebooked our tour in Oct and I now truly believe that everything happens for a reason. From the moment Heimir picked us up from the Hotel, I knew something special was in store for us. I have never come across such a wonderful tour guide and a tour that was designed to exceed our expectations.
Iceland is a land of magic, where trolls fight and dwarfs sing. I experienced different landscapes every 10 mins..from lava fields to snow to grasslands. I don't think pictures and words are enough to explain how I felt. I must have seen at least a 100 waterfalls and got sick of saying OMG! My nine year old was in heaven,she instantly took a liking to heimir and before i knew it she was playing tag with him and running around in the "dense' icelandic forest.
We drove through streams, made snow angels, went on a boat ride to the glacier, fed horses along the way, stopped and played with dogs. Nothing was too much for Heimir. I love waterfalls so he started the day taking me to the nearest waterfall, I do seriously think I had "waterfallitis" at the end of our trip. The icing on the cake was when we stayed our last night in Glymur and the beautiful northern lights made an appearance. It was spectacular and a perfect end to our tour. Heimir did promise me the nights or a laser show in case the lights didn't show up :).
I finally got to meet Svienn and thank him in person, and he then told me that he was not going to charge me the summer rates and instead adjusted everything and discounted it to winter rates, which was way cheaper to what we expected.
I can honestly say, I have never felt so sad leaving a guide and a country. I highly recommend this tour group, they make you feel safe and you know you are in for a trip of a lifetime.

Sveinn took me and the family on an all day tour of southern Iceland in his "super jeep" car. It is an amazing car with enormous tires (tyres) that allow it to traverse virtually any terrain. Sveinn is a really good guide, safety-conscious, but with a flare for excitement. His English is perfect and he is a good conversationalist who knows his way around the more interesting parts of Iceland

We went early July So there was no northern lights. I think late Sept or October you may see some northern lights but also based on weather condition. Good luck!

Coming to Iceland with family. Is it best to have one central hotel (Reykjavik???). and take tours out of the hotel or stay at a couple locations: 2 day Reykjavik, 2 days another city and then another couple days in another city? Our family is adventuresome.

For a Spa Hotel I an name Blue Lagoon Clinic and Hilton. I also recommend the swimming pools in Reykjavik which all are geothermal and have hot tubs etc. and the biggest one in Laugardalur also offers all kinds of services.
For a three day photography tour I would recommend our South Coast, Landmannalaugar highlands and Golden Circle tour which is a good mixture of many of the most popular sites and also the stunning highlands. Apart from seeing many waterfalls, black sand beaches etc. you will also see volcanoes, glaciers and continuously changing landscape.
