Icelandic Mountain Guides is Iceland's premier adventure tour operator. For over 20 years we have been in continuous operation of offering adventures in the wilderness of Iceland and Greenland. The company was established in 1994 by four young mountain and outdoor enthusiasts and pioneers whose aim was to introduce the wonders of Icelandic nature to travelers from all over the world. We started by offering Glacier Walks in Skaftafell and later on Solheimajokull. Hiking, backpacking and other adventures and expeditions in Iceland and Greenland soon followed. Today Icelandic Mountain Guides is a company that offers adventure tours ranging from short day tours to longer multi-day expeditions in the great outdoors in both summer and winter. So whether it is the exploration of the icescapes of glaciers, crossing of impressive highlands, trekking in the extraordinary rhyolite massifs or hiking in fascinating valleys, our aim is to Make Every Moment an Experience.

I took this trip wth 2 of my friends. We went on the Walk Through Ice and Fire tour. After doing much research, I found this to be one of the few trips with both the hot springs and a glacier walk. When we got to Iceland, there were many tourist stops in which we could book our tour, but... More

We signed up for a glacier walk at Solheimajokull and introduction to ice climbing. Our guide Grimur was amazing and helpful. The ice climbing experience was thrilling, fun and challenging. Would suggest you wear a ankle high hiking boots and waterproof pants but if you don't have either, don't sweat it, you can rent it from them.

My teenage granddaughters and myself went on this tour in late October and we had a fantastic day. We were very lucky with the weather and were able to see the northern lights which was fantastic. There were 12 in our group which was a good number and our guide, Bjartur Olafsson, was outstanding! Apart from the glacier walk which... More

We took the Golden Circle and Magical Nights tour and enjoyed every minute of it. The tour from start to finish was around 11 hours but we saw so much! After picking up the total of 13 people on our tour at the hotels around the city, we set out to see natural wonders like the Gullfoss waterfall, Strokkur geyser... More

We had an amazing time exploring Sólheimajökull glacier on the IMG glacier walk. We were split up into small groups of 10, strapped on our crampons, and headed up the glacier. We spent several hours on the ice, exploring the different formations. Our guide was so informative and energetic - he clearly enjoyed his job, and his enthusiasm and love... More

This was an unforgettable experience. Our tour guide, Tom, gave us such a well-rounded overview of Icelandic energy, industries, politics, farming, etc. -- in addition to detailed information on the formation of glaciers and water cycles. This was my third trip to Iceland, my first was in 2007, and I can't describe how beautiful this country is. It snowed lightly... More

Booked trip Nov 2016 and did the "South Shore, Glacier Walk and Ice Climbing" tour. Fortunately we had good weather. Drove first to glacier for glacier walk and then to ice climbing area with tour guides. Guides were knowledgeable & experienced. There was extra time for those who wanted to do a 2nd ice climb. However, one of the participants... More

We were a group of four that merged into a larger group of about a dozen for the glacier hiking. This was probably the most memorable part of Iceland for me. We had Thorston as a guide - he was AMAZING. Super knowledgable, kind, and patient (especially with some of the less athletic hikers like myself!). The photos we took... More

Excellent tour and a great tour guide. We really enjoyed this trip and the interaction with the guide was very informative. We checked out the major golden circle sights plus the added visits for lunch of tomato soup, ice cream and an excellent dinner. The hunt for the northern lights added a thrilling cold night to it.

After 14 days on an Expedition Ship from Svalbard to Iceland, we had only 3 days in Reyjavik before moving on, and Icelandic Mountain Guides were who we selected to suggest, and deliver a three day look at the highlights this beautiful country has to offer.
