About Icelandic Mountain Guides
Icelandic Mountain Guides is Iceland's premier adventure tour operator. The company was established in 1994 by four young outdoor enthusiasts with a passion for nature, travel and environmental advocacy. These pioneers aimed to introduce the wonders of Icelandic nature to travelers from all over the world. We started by offering Glacier Walks in Skaftafell and later on Solheimajokull glacier. Hiking, backpacking and other adventures and expeditions in Iceland and Greenland soon followed. Today, Icelandic Mountain Guides offers adventure tours ranging from short day tours to longer multi-day expeditions in the great outdoors in both summer and winter. So whether it is the exploration of the icescapes of glaciers and ice caves, crossing of impressive highlands, trekking in the extraordinary rhyolite massifs or hiking in fascinating valleys, our aim is to Make Every Moment an Experience.

We booked this walk after stopping at Skaftafell for myself and my 12-year-old son. We were a bit concerned that this tour would not be sufficiently challenging for my son, who is an experienced climber but not old enough to go on the ice climbing tour. We need no have worried. Although only slightly physically challenging, the walk was a great introduction to glaciers with some fabulous sights along the way. Our guide, Marco, was charming, experienced and totally chilled. He took great care of everyone in the group, regardless of ability, and gently explained the geology of the area and about walking with crampons. We would go back for a longer tour.

We went for a 3 hours glacier walk with the guide Tamas. Mainly because of him, the tour was an excellent experience. Tamas was very informative and helpful and he ensured that everybody felt safe and had a good trip (greetings from my vife 😊). We hope to meet Tamas on another tour with Arcanum/IMG.

I was anxious at first because i had never done anything of the sort before, but that feeling disappeared after 10 minutes. Our guide, Javier, made us feel safe during the whole hike and we felt taken care of the whole time. He also explains a lot of things during the hike and takes as many breaks as you need, We had a great time and we’re both grateful we did it. Excellent option for a first time on a glacier.

Our initial plan was to do the 2hr hike to the plain wreck, but it was raining heavily and started looking for alternatives. We googled a bit and came across Arcanum ATV tours. We did a last minute booking on the morning of 9th Aug and we got an immediate confirmation of the tour. However we re-checked with the tour operator as it was raining a lot. We got a green signal that the tour is on and we started with the tour at 12:30 pm. We were given jackets, shoes and helmet, felt like I was going on a space mission. The tour guide was super friendly and he gave the instructions about how to operate the vehicle and to what sites we will be visiting. The group was very small, we had 6 ATVs along with the guide. Previously, I have driven UTV in Aruba, but this was my first experience driving an ATV. Took few minutes to get used to the momentum and was cautious, but later it was a super fun ride. We were taken to different terrains rocky paths, muddy paths, into the fields, black sand beach, black sand dunes and to our main spot plain wreck. We took few breaks, and were given enough time to enjoy taking pictures. The plane wreck site was so beautiful where we were the only ones present at the site. There was another group, but they left when we arrived. Miraculously the rain stopped when we arrived at the spot and we got some beautiful pictures clicked. We even crossed a river on our way back, was super fun. The tour guide was constantly checking on us and made sure that everyone was safe. During my booking, I made a mistake in my reservation and was supposed to pay later after the tour. But the tour operator was super courteous and said we don't need to pay any extra amount. We were delighted and will now recommend all my friends to do this tour who are visiting Iceland :)

Thank you for taking the time to write this review vishmaic, we always appreciate our guests feedback. We are very glad to hear that the weather lucked out on you when you got the wreckage, although a little rain can always make the trip more adventurous. Safety is our priority on tour, and we are glad to hear that you were able to feel secure and comfortable on the ATV bikes on some of Icelands most surreal landscapes. We hope your holiday in Iceland will not be forgotten in a hurry, and we hope to see you again soon. Best Regards Scott
