Icelandic Mountain Guides is Iceland's premier adventure tour operator. For over 20 years we have been in continuous operation of offering adventures in the wilderness of Iceland and Greenland. The company was established in 1994 by four young mountain and outdoor enthusiasts and pioneers whose aim was to introduce the wonders of Icelandic nature to travelers from all over the world. We started by offering Glacier Walks in Skaftafell and later on Solheimajokull. Hiking, backpacking and other adventures and expeditions in Iceland and Greenland soon followed. Today Icelandic Mountain Guides is a company that offers adventure tours ranging from short day tours to longer multi-day expeditions in the great outdoors in both summer and winter. So whether it is the exploration of the icescapes of glaciers, crossing of impressive highlands, trekking in the extraordinary rhyolite massifs or hiking in fascinating valleys, our aim is to Make Every Moment an Experience.

Solheimajokull glacier walk with Brech (sp?) was unforgettable in more ways than one!

We did a glacier walk tour out of Solheimajokull. It was fabulous!! There ended up being 16 of us in the group and they split us in two. 8 went with one guide, 8 went with... read more

We did a glacier walk tour out of Solheimajokull. It was fabulous!! There ended up being 16 of us in the group and they split us in two. 8 went with one guide, 8 went with another. Our guide was Brecht (I think?). He was great!! He let us decide if we were up for adventure and go off the... More

A thrilling and evoking experience, the views are a feast for the eyes, combined with Pad's wealth of knowledge made for a very exciting and informative trip. Nothing can be done to improve the activity itself and the same can be said about the instructor who was very helpful, pleasant, friendly, patient and accommodating, whilst maintaining an air of professionalism.... I was shocked at how little services you get for the money you actually spend, but hey, this is Iceland. I was very concerned to see the guide being 100-500 meters in front of our group, never looking back, when we had to go through what I would consider dangerous slopes and spots. You know, that kind of place where... More

My wife, 18 year old grandson and me did the 3 hr. climb/walk on Solheimajokull Glacier on July 3. Wife and I had done one in the Canadian Rockies a few years ago but this one was far more demanding for old timers (we are both in our 70s). The climb up was a long series of tricky turns and... Despite living in New Zealand, I had never walked on a glacier before. I joined the "Blue Ice Tour" and it was amazing! Really well organised. They kit you out with crampons and and an ice pick, teach you how to use them and then you are off! We walked along the Svinafellsjokull glacier in Skaftafell National Park. Incredible! An... More

We did hiking tour on Svínafellsjökull this week with Icelandic Mountain Guides and it was amazing. Our guide Hanka was really informative, friendly and she did a great job with keeping everyone safe during the hike. Me and my friend had a great time! We would definitely do it again. Thank you for an amazing experience!

Being from the netherlands anything that looks like a mountain or a glacier is special. We booked the easy glacier hike which would take about 2 hours. A very enthousiastic guide took a small group on a tour on the glacier. Told a lot of interesting things about the glacier. Did an excelent job of giving that bit of extra... More

I did the Solheimajokull Glacier Walk and Ice Climbing tour with my girlfriend through IMG. Not only was the glacier itself gorgeous and fascinating, but the guide was one of the best I have ever had. He was incredibly personable, knowledgeable and a volunteer glacier rescuer to boot!

One of the highlights of our nine day vacation in Iceland was spending time on a glacier. Probably one of the best places to do this was on the largest glacier in Iceland which is Vatnajökull. For the usual visitor/tourist you can only visit the perimeter of the glacier. One of the more popular sites is at Skaftafell. We booked... More
