About Nature Explorer Tours
Nature Explorer offers tours in Iceland in Super Jeeps or Super-Trucks, which are modified 4x4s, which enable us to safely drive on glaciers and across unbridged rivers and reach otherwise inaccessible terrains, so that you can explore more of Iceland. We are a small, family run Icelandic tour operator, with a team of expert driverguides with background in Mt. Search & Rescue, 4x4 instructors and professional guides. We have a passion for Iceland and take pride sharing it in a personalized service on a variety of day and multi day tours. On our day tours out of Reykjavik we have the smallest group size in the industry, only 5 passengers per Super Jeep, but we can also cater to larger groups, and we offer private tours. We hope we can share your Iceland adventure.

The reply to my review stated: "here is a mini-shop/café in Landmannalaugar which unfortunately didn‘t open until the next day. Otherwise there are no cafe‘s or bakery‘s in the highlands but we do stop in a shop to pick up sandwiches etc for lunch." As I was on the tour I can say we did not stop anywhere for lunch, which for a tour that advertises for 9-11 hours is not appropriate. An email should've been sent out in advance to advise clients that there would be limited (to no food options) for the tours so they could plan accordingly. The only place that had food was the bus at Landmannalauger but this shop in the bus only had chocolate bars and nothing more substantial that could be a "lunch" (e.g., sandwiches).

I have used Nature Explorer Tours for two trips to Iceland. The planning process focused on what I wanted to accomplish photographically. The guides were excellent and very flexible to take advantage of a photographic opportunity. Most importantly, they are just really nice people who you enjoy spending time with. That makes the experience even better! I have come home after each trip thinking that I have had a great experience and I want to go back. They are great and I don’t know how you could do better if you want to see the real Iceland.

Dear Bryan Thank you for your kind words - and for coming back to Iceland (which is not surprising as no landscape photographer comes only once to Iceland :) As the saying goes: 'What goes around comes around' - so having nice, fun, adventure seeking and flexible customers makes it easy for us to act the same way. Besides, touring around Iceland in a super-truck, enjoying the amazing scenery, being outside to photograph.... it's difficult not to enjoy :) Again, thank you for choosing Nature Explorer. We promise to do our very best if you decide to come again :) Warm wishes from Iceland Hawk

Iceland in the winter is definitely a bucket list vacation. Deciding to take a private tour with Nature Explorer tours and stay most nights in the countryside was the best decision. Every aspect of our trip went very smoothly. Hawk and Gudrun were both a pleasure to plan with and were very responsive and flexible with our itinerary. Gylfi was our tour guide for the four days we spent outside of Reykjavík . I couldn’t recommend him more highly. He was a good conversationalist, extremely knowledgeable about the history and geology of Iceland ( and other places). He brought us to places that weren’t on the itinerary or well known by tourists but also made sure we had time at all of the high profile stops. He also made sure our schedule was different than tour busses so the stops were never very crowded. The truck was comfortable and Gylfie is a very experienced outdoor man who took us off road to see sites we would not normally be able to get to. We went to the blue lagoon early in the morning after landing and then spent the day touring Reykjavík . The next day we headed out with Gylfi and did the golden circle, southern coast and Jokusarlon tours staying in different hotels each night.

Hawk and his team designed a fabulous, customized winter trip of Iceland for us. They planned the trip and also provided a guide, Gylfi, who was incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, fun and reliable (expert mountaineer/survival guide) for our trip. We saw the very popular locations and were also able to get to a few places off the beaten path in their amazing SuperJeeps...(we climbed glaciers, drove on black sand beach, drove off through a lava field, etc). In addition, he has experience working with photographers and helped take us to some great photos! (Ones attached are from iPhone vs better camera). All around an amazing country, people and trip!!

Used Nature Explorer Tours for a Golden Circle and Glacier tour combo. Couldn't have been a better experience. Super truck was so comfortable for our group of 6 and our guide Gylfi was knowledgeable and experienced and a pleasure to be with as our guide. Plenty of time to see things at our own pace. No pressure to rush or compromise the experience. But I will never forget the amazing experience of driving thru the deep snow effortlessly and climbing onto the glacier which was the thrill of a lifetime! These folks are pros... and this was worth every penny.
