Less than two hours drive from Reykjavík is Eyjafjallajökull glacier, and just a little further the Sólheimajökull glacier tongue extends down from Mýrdalsjökull. We take an easy walk on crampons up on to the ice field where a wonderland of ice sculptures, ridges and deep crevasses awaits discovery.

I had read beforehand that lunch would either be really early or late in the afternoon. The night before the excursion we went to the grocery store and got peanut butter & crackers and fruit. It was a good choice - it is a long day. I recommend bringing some snacks/lunch. The glacier hike itself was amazing. We walked in... More

Booked on line and very promptly received a mail to tell us we will have to stand outside the hostel a half hour before hand. Within five minutes we were off to the bus depot. The tour guide was from Japan, some one line jokes and this man made us feel at ease. He talked none stop tell us we... More

Had a fantastic time on the Take a Walk on the Ice Side trek. They picked us up around 9 AM from the BSI Bus Terminal and we drove about 2 hours to the Sólheimajökull glacier. It was such a beautiful day and the 15 other people on the tour were just as excited. We broke off in to two... More

This was our 3rd tour with Reykjavik Excursions. I'm glad it wasn't our first because it was a little different from the others. There are no guides on the bus: it's an audio tour. The driver barely spoke English and we received very little information on how the day would go. The first stop was at a gas station at... More

This was simply the best excursion we did in Reykjavik. I didn't really know what to expect, but I figured we'd get to walk on top of some snow covered glacier. I didn't expect that we would get to climb down into holes in the glacier. The guide (Karl, I think) was wonderful. I do think Reykjavik Excursions could do... More

An exceptional experience after you do it. You get to see frozen lakes, glaciers, ice caves, ice tunnels and amazing views. It's a good 2 hours walk so be prepared for that. The guides are friendly and are locals. You get crampons to put on your shoes which helps you walk on the ice. Definitely give it a try if... More

This is the third time I have done this excursion. The first time was over 4 years ago, the second in October and the third last week. Every hike is different, as the Glacier changes dramatically, especially over lengthy periods of time. The glacier hike itself is an experience everybody should embark on! Our tour guide this time round `K`... More

We used Reykjavik Excursions for everything in Iceland; from airport pick up AND drop off, the Northern Lights Tour and the 'Take a Walk on the Ice Side' trip. As you may have got the general feel of it already the tours are pretty cramped and if you're one of the first on the bus to go on tours you... More

Hi, Abi! Thank you for your review. The lack of toilet facilities outside towns in Iceland is a known problem, and we always recommend people use the restroom before leaving because we cannot guarantee we will stop where there is a toilet. Why the guide didn't have a key to the toilet on the bus, I'll have to have a... More

We finished off our honeymoon with a glacier walk with Reykjavik Excursions on the south of the island. Although the day was long, it was well worth it. Our guide, Martha, was very knowledgeable, approchable and down to earth with everything from putting the crampons on to stories about the glaciers themselves. The walk itself is fairly strenuous but full... More

This excursion (Blue Ice) by far has been my most physically challenging excursion ever. We hiked a ginormous glacier with crampons on for over 2 hrs and got a chance to climb an ice wall on the glacier!!! how cool is that??? if you think rock climbing is tough, wait till you try this.. I felt a huge sense of... More
