About
Bustravel Iceland is one of the oldest tourism companies in Iceland and carries that rich heritage on its shoulders in everything it does. Originally founded in 1960 under the name of Þingvallaleið (Thingvellir Route), the company was re-imagined in 2015 to take on the form it does today. This re-imagining brought with it an all new startup mentality to the tourism industry though while we have the attitude of a startup we maintain our deep roots and experience in the tourism industry. We bring a fresh outlook on sharing the unique qualities of Iceland with our customers. By thinking outside the box and going the extra mile for our customers, our team is able to provide great service at competitive rates. We are continually evaluating ourselves and our tours to ensure that we are offering our customers the most innovative and enjoyable experiences at the highest level of service.

This was an interesting day trip. icy, We had a comfortable bus, very well-driven on icy, snowy roads, feeling safe at all times. Our guide, Laasma, was pleasantly chatty and informative, but also gave us quiet time to enjoy looking out. She kept a busload of passengers organised and on-time without being 'bossy'. She also tried to ensure that couples and pairs were seated together, not split p. I could not do her job and she did it very well. The locations visited were varied and freedom to roam was appreciated. There were some limitations for safety, due to the snow and ice, but these did not spoil our enjoyment. With waterfalls, craters, tectonic plates and seeing the effects of earthquakes on many of the houses which we passed - on the whole, a very
worthwhile trip. Iceland is totally different and never boring.

This was an amazing trip, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Chiara our tour guide was brilliant, funny and informative. I absolutely recommend this trip and especially this company, we had other trips with other companies during our stay and Bus travel Iceland was by far superior to the others we experienced.

I have checked their prices for Golden Circle -South Coast - Whale watching in comparison with other tour providers. I have realized that not only they do offer the lowest fares but they do also offer quality service. I have picked Golden Circle and Whale Watching tours. Our tour guides were knowledgeable, attentive and entertaining (great with punctuality as well). It is worth mentioning that during the booking process, once I had a problem while registering my details, I posted it through online chat. Instantly, Chiara replied to me and while I was still in the chatbot, I have had from her in my email inbox: ticket voucher, payment link and excursion details! In no time I had my booking secured! Plus extra email with our full dialogue attached! Fab!

We went on two trips with BusTravel Iceland. The small group Northern lights tour and the Golden Circle with the Secret Lagoon. Both guides (Simon and Hilda) were great and were very knowledgeable about the sites, along with visiting some great places we came away with a greater understanding with Icelandic culture and way of life.
We were lucky enough to see the Northern lights and recommend a small group tour as we went into an area a bigger bus wouldn’t have been able to travel too. Simon our guide was very humorous and looked after us well. We also enjoyed the Icelandic hip hop!
We enjoyed the Golden Circle and Secret Lagoon tour. We went to a lot of sites throughout the day but it never felt rushed and had enough time at each spot. Hilda was a great guide and very accommodating to us all, we learnt such a lot about the Icelandic culture on this day as Hilda was so personable in how she explained things.
We would highly recommend BusTravel Iceland.

I booked a volcano tour through BusTravel Iceland. This tour was painfully disorganized at best, and legitimately dangerous at worst. It was advertised as a 5-hour sunset tour, and we were picked up around 6:45pm. Around 40 minutes was wasted at the start of the tour stopping at a convenience store and then stopping at bathrooms for a second bathroom break shortly after. Once we finally made it to the volcanic site, we parked in a remote parking lot and then hiked to a closer lot.. No clue why we did not park there to start with. Our tour guide then proceeded to GET LOST and hike 30 minutes uphill before he realized we were on the wrong path. There was one tour guide for at least 50 people and he had no way of projecting his voice or making announcements. After wasting an additional 20+ minutes backtracking to the start, we started on the correct route. Once we reached the first sight of hardened lava, part of the group wandered off and did not rejoin the group for at least 15 minutes. The tour guide gave up on waiting for them and continued on, so I’m uncertain if they ever did rejoin the group. The hike was grueling and by the time we made it to the peak, it was past 11pm and pitch black outside so we could not see anything. Thus, I didn’t get a single photograph and did not see any lava. The headlamp that was provided to my husband then began to die, so we hiked down the volcano with almost no visibility and the group quickly became splintered. The tour guide was nowhere to be seen during the hike back, so it became the blind leading the blind as the group at the head of the pack eventually found their way back to the bus in a remote parking lot across a moss field. There did not appear to be a final headcount and people were missing from their seats on the bus when we departed after the tour guide caught up 20 minutes later. We did not leave the volcanic site until after midnight and did not make it back to our drop off location until almost 2am, so it was absolutely not a “5 hour excursion and 1 hour hike.” Nothing about this trip was correctly advertised and it was extremely negligent. I would absolutely never trust this tour company again and their guides have zero knowledge and zero safety protocols in place. They have also ignored my inquiries and concerns.

We found this was the cheapest tour company, especially with the discount january30, and i couldn't fault it. We did the golden circle, northern lights, and south coast, and the tour guide for each one was engaging and had lots of facts to keep us interested.
It says to arrive between times, but make sure to get there for the first time (i.e. arrive by 7.55 for a 8-8.30 departure - they will set off by 8.15)

We didn't have very much time in Iceland so booked two tours two days running that we thought would show us as much as possible. With a lot of quite similar itineraries available from various companies, we ended up choosing BusTravel mostly because there was a 30% offer at the time, but regardless of the money I'm really glad we did, and next time we visit they'll be my first choice when booking more tours. Our guides were really friendly and interesting, the buses were comfortable with free wifi (and it was a nice surprise that we had a minibus tour for the golden circle, as we hadn't paid extra for a small group tour), and both days were very well organised with easy pick up and drop off. The secret lagoon was an excellent addition that not all golden circle tours include, really worth doing. At times we wished we had just a few more minutes at some of the stops, but I thought the timings were good given what long tours we chose and how little daylight there is this time of year to fit everything into. My only regret is we booked our Northern lights tour with a different company - next time I'll book it with BusTravel!

We spent a few days in Iceland and booked 3 out of 5 tours with Bus Travel. Every interaction was fun, professional, and no drama. Lasma, who guided our golden circle tour was very friendly & approachable. Daniel guided our northern lights tour - he was extremely knowledgeable & though we didn’t really see the lights he made it still a positive experience. And unfortunately I forgot the name of the great guy who led our private South Iceland tour but he was very engaging & shared tons of facts. I would recommend 100 times over !

We were picked up at bus stop 12 whihc was overwhelming. Daniel our guide said that he'd never seen a pick up so busy but he quickly gathered us all up and took us to the bus.
We had very little expectations of seeing the Northern Lights as they had a viewability score of 2. Fear not though as our knowledgable guide had done his homework and knew exactly were to take us.
On the drive to the Northern Lights Daniel filled us in on everything we needed to know about the Northern Lights and when we got there he ensured that everyone could see the lights.
Before boarding the bus back we were treated to hot chocolate and biscuits and on the trip back Daniel told us all about New Years Eve in Iceland.

I was sceptical about using this company as i didn't want to go go on a bus tour with another 50 people. We did 2 tours with this company (golden circle, secret lagoon and northern lights). i have to say both were excellent. i think all of the tour companies do the same trips so the itineraries don't vary much, but what did vary from my experience was the guides, our guides on both tours with Bus Travel were exceptional!!! We had other guides from our other tours who were quite poor and not interested in telling you about Iceland and making sure you had a great trip.

The commentary when you travel was great, you can easily hear and understand the funny stories about Icelandic history and people. the buses were clean and comfortable and the locations and timings were great.
