We took 3 tours with Reykjavik Excursions during our week in Iceland, and we enjoyed them all. The tour guides were friendly and knowledgeable, and the bus drivers did an excellent job navigating slick, icy, windy mountain roads. I especially liked how one of our guides gave us a detailed itinerary for our day, including what each stop was and how much time we had at each place, along with when we were stopping for lunch. It helped to know exactly what the time would look like. Our guide also took us all the way to the glacier, which I thought was incredible and a wonderful surprise!

I booked a bus from the airport to Reykjavik City Centre on the Reykjavik Excursions webpage, unfortunately there was an error on the website that allowed me to book a bus at a time that no bus was scheduled. I had a connecting flight at the other airport in Reykjavik so I was under time pressure to arrive and was informed when I called Reykjavik Excursions that there would be no bus coming for over an hour despite the booking I made for a bus at the time I was intending to depart the Keflavik airport. In the end I had to take a taxi that cost me over $120. However, after communicating with Una at Reykjavik Excursions she was very helpful and within three weeks she had refunded me the price of my ticket and the cost of the taxi. I have also noticed that they have altered the website so it is no longer possible to book buses at specific times and thus more accurately reflects their service. Although my initial experience was quite stressful, after the outcome of my interactions with Una I would definitely use Reykjavik Excursions for their services again.

Clearly it is not guaranteed you will see the northern lights. We went in assuming we would not but hoping for the best. The tour ended up on the southern shoreline in an area that had so much light from a local building that it would have been difficult to see any northern lights if they had occurred. Additionally the bus had no rest room facilities and nor did the location they took us too. For a tour lasting 4 hours, I felt this was not acceptable. We also had to listen to the tour guides repeat for over an hour on route that we may or may not see the lights. I am not sure how many ways you can explain such a thing, but they managed it. It was hard to listen to for an entire hour. There was a lot of confusion with our tickets as well, causing some concern at the beginning. I would not go on this tour again.
