The prime minister’s office is a good representation of the Icelandic democracy: small, elegant and close to the people with no apparent security protection.
The building dates back to mid XVIII century. Originally a prison, it became the see of the danish governors and a government building.
Surrounded by a small lawn, with no fences, the little mansion faces the Laekjargata, the main street of central Reykjavík, marking the vicinity of the government to the citizens.

Our tour was delayed a day due to weather. We went last night and our guide went to extraordinary measures to insure we saw the aurora borealis with our naked eyes. The first stop the lights only showed up on my camera pics. On the way back, he had the bus stop twice, pull over to a safe viewing spot, and we got a fabulous display of solar winds in action. He was so determined, and enthusiastic - we all had a blast! This organization goes above & beyond to make sure you have the time of your life!
