Mr. Puffin is Reykjavik's premier birdwatching tour operator. Guiding tours from the Old Harbour in downtown Reykjavik to the incredible puffins and sea birds on Faxafloi bay. I am a seabird scientist and was on this excursion because I always dreamed of seeing puffins in Iceland, but it was a horrible tour. My family and a couple of our friends booked his whole day tour with pick-up/drop-off in Reykjavik. Unfortunately, "Mr. Puffin" was a glorified chauffeur and you'd be better off renting your own car to do this trip. We booked a wildlife tour, but ended up seeing puffins for less than 15-minutes (in which time he harassed them) in an all-day trip before proceeding to destroy a beach with his car. We were told we'd get on a boat, but then he dropped us off at a museum. Lots of hidden costs: no excursions advertised as part of the tour were included and we had to pay for his lunch. This was advertised as a puffin tour, but the only ones we saw were in his friend's sheep field for less than 15-minutes on an all-day tour. He pulled over to the side of the road and had us approach a breeding colony of birds, which caused multiple puffins to leave the nest where they had eggs or chicks. As a scientist studying these animals, I was horrified to see him shouting and waving his arms, clearly disturbing the birds. I told him what he was doing was wrong and explained why it was harmful to the animals to the rest of the guests, who quickly backed up when they realized this was not ethical. Mr. Puffin made no apologies for harassing puffins in a manner that could result in them actually dying. The tour finished with him getting the vehicle stuck in a black sand beach that clearly said no off-roading. We all had to get out of the vehicle while he struggled for nearly 20-minutes to get back onto the road. (And, yes, really 20-minutes; I filmed the whole thing as well as our race back to the dock because we almost missed the ferry back due to his antics.) The beach was torn up, with huge tire track gouges left on the previously pristine, gorgeous sand. He laughed about it and clearly had no care for the damage he was causing to the environment. I don't know what he was trying to prove by driving on this beach when no one asked him to, and none of us ended up impressed. Other than that, the only thing he did was act as a driver. He took us to one point on the volcano and then dropped us off at a museum by ourselves. He then joked that he was only the driver and the tremendous sum we had pay did not include tickets to the museum or the audio guides. While we were in the museum, he went to visit his brother. He also took us to an overpriced restaurant with food that was not great; and we had to pay for his meal. He tried to show us churches when we told him we were more interested in wildlife. It was obvious by the end of the trip that he and his wife use these tours as a way to get paid while visiting their family who live on the island; that wouldn't be bad if he provided a good service otherwise or charged appropriately. You'd be better spending your money elsewhere. Please avoid this tour company, for the sake of the animals and environment as well as your ultimate experience.

We had a great experience seeing puffins close to Reykjavik with this Mr. Puffin tour. It was well organized, informative and we definitely say many puffins. The only down side was there was not any information on their confirmation about how to find the office for tour check-in. It's in the Old Harbor, only a few steps from Hofnin Restaurant in a brown wooden small modern building.

The tour was very well organised and our guide nice and knowledgeable. We got on those RIB silent boats that fit around 10-12 people, and got pretty close to the Island. The best view of the puffins we got as they were basically flying over our heads! As an extra bonus we saw a minke whale (although it was not a whale watching tour). It was a great way to wrap up our 10-days Iceland tour and I would definitely recommend it despite the kinda high price for european standards.

This tour was great. We visited 2 small islands where the puffins were breeding. We saw lots of pufins on those rocks, on the water and flying over our heads. The guide was very experienced and helpful. We would surely recommend this tour.

Hey there, Many thanks for taking your time and reviewing our Premium Puffin tour on the RIB speedboats! We're so happy that you had a great time and it sounds your sightings were very successful with the puffins in full show. We're proud of the fact that our guides are very passionate about the work that they do, and how much they know about the puffins and Iceland. We hope the rest of your time in Iceland was just as enjoyable! Mr Puffin
