Icelandair provides a day trip to Greenland during the summer months. It is probably the best excursion I have ever taken anywhere in the world. You fly on a very comfortable bombardier turbo prop plane into Kulusuk, which is a remote and beautiful little airport with a gravel runway. A guide is there to greet you, walking you into the small Inuit village, approximately 1.7 miles. Our guide was very knowledgeable answering everyone’s questions. The small fishing village overlooks a beautiful fiord with floating ice. The people are very accepting and polite to the tourists. A beautiful young lady performed her traditional drum dance in her lovely garb.. It was an honor to see the beautiful land and witness the people and their amazing culture.

Thank you Bjorn and Thor for an unforgettable day in Iceland!!!
We booked with Iceland Day Trips for a custom tour of the Golden Circle. Thor planned our excursion to include all the classic Golden Circle sights, and so much more! He managed to include everything on our "wish list", which included stopping for a soak at the Fontana geothermal baths in Laugarvatn.
Bjorn acted as our tour guide, and he exceeded all expectations. We learned so much about the areas we visited, as well as general Icelandic history and culture. Bjorn was warm and entertaining, and our family, which included my 76-year-old mother, ended the day feeling as though we had truly made a new friend.
There are many tour guide options available in Iceland, but Iceland Day Trips is truly exceptional. Book a trip with them - it will be a highlight of your visit to Iceland!

I booked two trips with Iceland Day Trips for myself and my partner to celebrate our Birthdays. We were both blown away with how amazing both the trips were.
First was to see the Northern Lights (which was a secret trip for my partner's birthday, which Thor helped me organise!), this trip was perfect - the forecast for the original booking was very cloudy so Thor happily rescheduled for the following night, with no problems at all! During the trip, Thor was so thorough in helping us see the Northern Lights, even though the forecast said that they weren't so strong, we still saw them and it blew us away!
The second trip was the Golden Circle Day Trip, which again was fantastic! We saw some beautiful sights and Thor was more than happy to give us background information throughout the whole trip. He was even kind enough to let me try fermented shark, which I wouldn't recommend unless you are very brave!!!
I am definitely going to recommend Thor to my friends. It was perfectly well organised and we would definitely use Thor in future if we were to return to Iceland....Thank you for a perfect trip!!

I am usually a do-it-yourself vacation planner for myself and my family, but I am so glad that I had the good sense to contact Thor (based on a high recommendation from well-travelled friends) for my extended family's 1 week vacation in Iceland. My group of 6 ranged from 78 year olds to 12 year olds, and everyone had a wonderful time. Although it was rainy and cold when we arrived, Thor's mantra- "high spirits and appropriate gear go a long way" and "we don't let weather stop us" trickled down. :) Thor was very responsive, warm and professional from the beginning of our communication several months before our trip. The personalized attention to tailor each day to the energy level of the seniors in our group while keeping the young ones very well occupied was wonderful. Thor was very communicative throughout the pre-trip process, answering questions, offering many different excursion options for us. He planned a wonderful itinerary for us. He found us delightful country cottages with beautiful vistas. He helped us go supermarket shopping (not easy in foreign country!), recommending Icelandic foods which helped us get to know the Icelandic culture. He was like a friend, offering us his children's clothing to supplement for inclement weather. He always reassured us we could call him with any questions. Thor was with us at the beginning and the end days and his colleague Harpa for 4 days in between.
Harpa was professional, warm and wonderful. I was worried about being in the car for long periods, but our days were structured with short rides in between beautiful sites. She was also an excellent driver (with a very comfortable car), and I never worried about safety (and no one got carsick!). She gave terrific facts about Iceland, the sites we were seeing, and personal stories of growing up in the Icelandic culture. She would drop us off at the entrance, give advice on the best paths to take with my elderly parents, and pick us up (crucial in the rain and cold!). She was clearly an expert who loved her country and sharing it with others. She shared her licorice with us and advised us on buying sweets and gifts to bring home. She was great with our children, telling troll stories, holiday traditions. She even would text us at night with Northern Lights forecasts after she dropped us off! My parents are hard to please and well travelled throughout the world, and they were very pleased with this whole experience. They have been telling everyone back home how lovely it is. We love Iceland and the people. I would recommend Thor and Iceland Day Trips to everyone. You will not be disappointed.

I would highly recommend Iceland Day Trips to anyone that wants to truly learn more about Iceland and it's people, and stay away from the throngs of tourist groups. Thor was nothing but amazing in helping us to narrow down and figure out the best places to go in the middle of winter. My three friends and I had been having lots of trouble narrowing down our itinerary for our February winter trip. We then found Thor and Iceland Day Trips and we were saved! Thor gave us an amazing deal for a group of 4 and our experience was nothing short of amazing. Thor knew what he was doing and made us feel at ease and comfortable the entire trip. He made sure that we were well taken care of throughout our time there. He drove 5 hours from the southeast area through a winter storm so that we could get back to our Airbnb back in Reykjavik! He helped us hike around the various attractions that Iceland had to offer and adapted our itinerary according to our needs. My friends and I were pretty flexible in our plans and trusted Thor to bring us to places that we would never have dreamed of going to. For example, after we went Lava Caving one night (which was a really amazing experience), Thor brought us to a little stream of water that we could drink water straight out of! It was such a refreshing and lovely experience as we watched the night sky (hoping for some Northern Lights) and breathed in Iceland's amazing fresh air. Northern Light hunting was also a great experience. Thor was thorough and knowledgeable in letting us know when it was a good night to see the Northern Lights and driving us to areas where we could find them. With Thor's expert research and driving skills, we were lucky enough to have seen them our second night in Iceland! I learned a lot about Iceland and it's people through Thor and am so glad that my friends and I chose to go with Iceland Day Tours. The next time I go to Iceland, I am going to go back with Iceland Day Tours again.

Five Stars! This was an excellent private tour for our family of four adults. Our guide was outstanding. From the moment he picked us up from our hotel until he dropped us off the following evening we enjoyed a stress free guided tour of the sites, culture, and history of your country. The cabin/cottage where we spent the night to look for the Northern Lights was perfect; it was way out in the country and we had all night for the lights to make an appearance. Our tour was in February. The sky cleared for a while and we spent a magical twenty minutes with the green and yellow hues of the lights and more stars than we'd ever seen before. This is the way to see the lights and the sites. Plenty of time, no schedule to keep, a flexible personable guide, and no stress. We could just enjoy our adventure together. It just doesn't get any better than this. And the cost is better than if you book a south coast tour, a golden circle tour, and an all night opportunity to see the lights. Five stars from my family in Virginia, USA!

Our trip was last winter, and I just found their TripAdvisor page.
This is an incredible team; Bjorn taking us places and Thor pulling it all together from the office. They are knowledgeable and skilled, super friendly, and worked 16 hour days to ensure we had the best vacation possible.
This is a customized tour. Even before we left our home (San Francisco) Thor spoke to us regularly to determine our interests, make sure that we were well prepared, and provide input and assistance on suggests on accommodations/things to do that weren't even part of their tour.
As with any trip, the real adventure starts on arrival. The weather in Iceland is unpredictable and can get severe rapidly! Had we not booked through Iceland Day Trips I'm sure our trip would have been extremely limited. Bjorn picked us up from the airport at 4am and expertly navigated white-out road conditions.
Fast acting flexibility is essential. The cave for our ice cave expedition had flooded. While Bjorn navigated the storm with us, Thor found us a new glacier hike and caving expedition for the following day and arranged accommodations. On a day that otherwise would have been 'lost', we were treated to a 6 o'clock in the morning dip alternating between super hot spa and freezing glacier water (instantly cured jet lag), saw a spectacular waterfall, visited a volcano museum (The Volcano House was established in 2011 in the wake of world-wide coverage of the Eyjafjallajökull eruption.), visited a wool factory, had a traditional Iceland lunch, saw icebergs calving in a glacier lagoon, walked the beach where the icebergs drifted out to sea and even did some seal spotting when I mentioned I was partial to seals. This was all on day one, despite beginning in a blizzard that would normally have left us stranded at the airport!
Each day, and part of the night, was a grand and fun filled adventure. If I were to continue outlining everything the write up would be too long...see the activities on their website.
Perhaps Bjorn and Thor's greatest strength is their ability to take what you want, assess your abilities and find you the perfect options even if you have no idea what your choices were in the first place. One of our biggest highlights came from our missed trip to the Blue Lagoon (due to poor planning on our part). Bjorn drove us to a non-touristy area, whipped out crampons and hiking poles for us to use, and lead us on a 6km hike through pristine scenery to a geothermal stream. Instead of being surrounded by tourists we were able to enjoy Icelands waters in a truly serene environment. I wouldn't have traded it for anything!!!!
Even after our tour should have ended, on our last night Thor and Bjorn took us to our accommodations in Reykjavik, waited while we changed, and took us to a elegant farewell dinner. (This was done instead of simply cancelling the planned welcome dinner or missing any sightseeing opportunities when the blizzard hit on day one). As if that weren't enough, Thor had been planning behind the scenes. At 10pm (again, hours after there commitment to us had ended) they packed us into the car and we headed off to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.
Our trip ended on Thursday but Bjorn called the next morning to tell us of an incoming storm, that the roads were closing fast but flights were still departing, and that we should get ready immediately. And so, just as the trip began, Bjorn picked us up and headed out in a blizzard to get us safely home.
Iceland is an adventure but you want to make sure it’s the right kind of adventure - not an adventure of driving in hazardous conditions, showing up at closed places, and going to only tourist-filled sights. Bjorn and Thor made our Iceland visit the best adventure possible.

After a short stay in Reykjavik, we booked this tour to get us out of the city, to see more of the natural wonders of Iceland.
Being the middle of winter, we were grateful to have Thor’s expertise navigating the icy, narrow roads in the dark, as well as his insight for selecting the best activities based on the ever-changing weather conditions and our interests.
Not only did he provide us a wonderful glimpse into the interior of this beautiful island—beyond just the typical tourist circuit—we also got private lessons in the ancient and recent history of the country, its religious traditions, politics, and agriculture. Long, snowy drives turned into unforgettable discussions on botany, geology, international relations, and economics.
The cabin we stayed at was cosy and luxuriously remote. Unfortunately, it was cloudy all 3 nights we spent with Thor, so there was no chance of seeing the Northern Lights, but the hot tub provided a lovely alternative evening activity to soak any aching muscles with snowflakes falling all around.
Our last night in Iceland, Thor also brought us a bag of Icelandic snacks, which became the perfect souvenirs to share with friends and family.
Without Thor, we would undoubtedly have left Iceland with a far more superficial view of this amazing country, and missed out on its beautiful landscape and its warm, open-hearted people.
