Amazing fishing trip just outside of Reykjavik!
We were a bit worried when there was no one called "Happy Tours" (we booked through "Guide to Iceland") but by asking around at the dock, we found the Elding booth and got directed to our boat, the Saga. We had the full 15 people on board, and it was a lovely sunny day with very little wind.
We saw only a single puffin flying by, so I'm glad we weren't expecting more in that category.
We stopped at one location where I caught the only two fish (pollack) and then we moved to another spot. Immediately, every single person had a fish on the line. It was incredible! We fished for what felt like 2 hours in this location alone, catching a ton and keeping until we had enough to eat.
The gear was fine, some of the reels were what my fishing pro partner would call "crunchy" but the thing that made it exceptional was the staff, especially Oscar. He did all the dirty work of taking the fish off the line and moved so quickly that we were back in the water mere moments later. It was the perfect balance of physical exertion / ownership over your catch but also not actually needing any technical skill. He did say that the ~200 fish our group caught that day was very unusual - we had multiple times where more than one person caught two fish on the line as they were reeling it in!
Lunch on the way back, grilled fish and potato salad, was delicious, and we even got to keep some fish to bring back to our apartment to cook later (we just had to tell them in advance how much we wanted).
Highly recommend, for even casual fishers!

We had an amazing time. We caught so many fish, and kept the 4 largest cods for lunch. Our guide was also a marine biologist, so she did a great job identifying and explaining the different birds and marine animals we saw. Our boys had a fantastic time, we highly recommend this trip for families who have kids that like to fish!

My grandson and I took this half day time while in Iceland. It was a lot of fun and didn’t consume the entire day. The crew issued binoculars so we could see the puffins. Everyone caught fish which the crew cooked when we got back to the dock. Can’t get any fresher codfish than that.
The crew was very helpful and cheerful. All in all a great experience. Highly recommended.

We did the Northern lights jeep tour with this company, to be honest we didn’t really enjoy it, the drivers were knowledgeable but we thought they were time wasting with photos which we still haven’t received copies of, they also said we should have looked at the email sent with tips about what to wear, we didn’t get this either. We did get to see the northern lights after a very long wait, best thing about the tour….the hot chocolate, worst thing, the cake, it was cold and tasteless. The tour was over priced, really not worth it.

Booked a whale watching tour with this company in April 2017 for October. Unfortunately all whale watching tours for today ( 14th) were cancelled due to the weather - which I completely understand HOWEVER- no one from the company bothered to email or call me , despite them emailing me the day before to confirm the time of the trip !!! Travelled miles and miles to get there only to be told that the owner of Happy Tours had handed our booking over to another company as there were not enough people booked on his tour to make it worth his while taking his boat out BUT he failed to give them any contact details for us so they were not able to cancel us.
I am very very upset and incredibly disappointed that anyone even tried to tell us. We could have saved ourselves so much time and effort getting here 😡😡😡😡😡😡. It’s now 21.00 and I have not had an apology or even a hint of a refund !!!!!! What terrible customer service -/ DON NOT USE THIS COMPANY

Hello Michelle and thank you for taking the time to write a review, we always appreciate customers feedback.
We are terribly sorry about this miscommunication between us and our co-operator.
All of our whale watching tours take place on the same boat, so all the bookings we receive take place on our co-operator´s boat, but in this case the contact information with your booking got lost and we take full responsibility for that.
You should have already received a refund for this tour, and you are of course welcome to join us on a whale watching tour free of charge if interested.
We will make sure that this mistake will never happen again.
We sincerely hope this has not ruined the experience of your visit here in Iceland.
Feel free to contact us again if you have any questions (info@happytours.is).

I have been on several fishing tours around the world and can tell you this one cannot be beat. They think of all the details. It was raining - but they provided us with complete rain suits and rubber boots!!! The boat is the perfect size and the number of guests is perfect (maybe 10). The trip to see the puffins takes maybe 15 minutes and they provide you with binoculars to watch the puffins!! Then the fishing...wow...within 2 minutes of people putting their lines in there were fish coming in the boat. There were so many fish being caught that the guides could not keep up. I would estimate each person caught 10-20 fish each....maybe more. Once my son had two fish on his line at once! Mostly we caught cod, but a few whitelings and one amazing wolf-fish. Most of the fish were 3-5kg, but the biggest was probably 10kg. And very fun to bring them in. Then we ate on shore until we could eat no more and also took home enough fileted fish for 2 more meals. YOU MUST GO ON THIS TRIP. I really cannot recommend it strongly enough.

We are glad to hear you enjoyed the sea fishing tour with us, even though it was a rainy day. We are glad it did not have an effect on your experience out at sea. It was a pleasure to have you joining us on a tour!
We hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay here in Iceland.

Amazing experience and definitely recommend! We needed to fill time from landing to checking in at our BNB and this was perfect. Possibly my favorite activity of the trip. They take you passes the puffin island and then fishing! Captain was wonderful and a great cook!

Traveling with my 14 year old grandson who loves fishing, I like bird watching and this trip turned out to beat all our expectations. The boat, the crew, the other anglers, the puffins, fulmars, the cooperative cod all made this a truly memorable day. Watching Kristen filet the fish was amazing art form. Enjoying eating the catch, skillfully cooked on the boat was the perfect ending to a perfect trip!

Sadly we did not see the Northern Lights, but is was not for Snorri's lack of trying. He was on time, the "small group" was only two, and we went to four different places to try to see. He had perseverance, charm, stories, hot chocolate, and a nice snack that I think was called kleina. He contacted us the next night to see if we see if we wanted to try again at no charge - but we opted for warmth. Recommend

We took an excursion to see the Northern Lights on Tuesday 24 October 2017 and really cannot recommend “Happy Tours” enough!
Our guide, Snorri, couldn’t have been more helpful and, in fact, kindly rearranged our tour from the Monday to the Tuesday - which proved ideal as the weather conditions were much more favourable. All changes to our planned itinerary were communicated promptly and, as planned, the mini-bus was there on schedule to collect us in the evening.
Snorri and his colleague, Christa, were helpful, friendly and their English was exceptional! (Much better than our Icelandic, I’m ashamed to say!) Our guides were knowledgeable and patient which paid off as the Northern Lights didn’t disappoint and put on a mesmerising and surreal show. It was an absolutely spell-binding and memorable experience.
Snorri kept us warm with copious amounts of hot cocoa and lovely Icelandic donuts.
I wouldn’t hesitate in booking a visit with “Happy Tours” and, best of all, the company kindly offer a second excursion should the Lights not be visible on your visit. A huge, huge thank you to Snorri and his wonderful company. Takk, Snorri!

Hi, we are reaching Iceland on may 19. Is there a chance to see northern lights?
Written April 17, 2018
Hello,
Unfortunately there will be no tours at that time. The northern lights can only be seen during winter times when it gets dark enough.
They will be starting up again in september.
Best regards,
Kristey

We are arriving in Iceland on the 21st of September. Do you offer whale watching/fishing tours?? Is there a good chance we will be able to see whales during this time?? Thank you!
Written September 17, 2017
Unfortunately we will not be operating scheduled fishing tours at that time. We only rent the boat under private tours during winterseason. But our company does not operate whale watching tours, we work in cooperation with Reykjavik Sailors and they are operating whale watching scheduled tours everyday at 9.00am and 13.00pm.
We hope you find what you are looking for and enjoy your stay here in Iceland

Can we book in advance and does the tour include both Puffins and fishing?
Written July 23, 2016
Hi Thomas, yes you can book in advance.
The Sea Angling tour includes both puffin, angling and then we cook the fish on board after the tour.
The Puffin tours are only until 20th of august (because the puffins will leave around that time), but we will be sea angling until at least 20th of september. Then we open up again next summer. You can book your tour on our webpage or via telephone.
This winter we will also be having a northern lights tour by bus if you are interested.
I hope this helped, feel free to ask if you have any other questions.
Regards, Kristey
