We found out about Icelandic Sagas from another couple on our tour. So glad we did. What a difference it makes to see talented actors cleverly sharing both well known and little known sagas in an incredible setting. We felt comfortable from the start - an inclusive feeling and so much fun. Plus after a big day out, we felt invigorated in the 75 minutes of the show - highly entertaining AND we were back at our hotel by 9.30pm. Perfect way to experience Harpa, learn of Iceland's sagas AND support a brilliant show. If you find this review helpful please tick the helpful box so I know :)

Despite other glowing reviews, we were disappointed in the production. Very immature jokes that get overused. Additionally, a confusing and uncompelling way to tell the story of the Sagas. This may be good for families with pretend, but overall, this was an American Tourist trap.

We ended our one day stopover in Iceland with this, and were so glad we had the time before our second red eye flight in two days! First, the concert and convention center building is a surprise attraction, and we were happy the Sagas show drew us in. The show itself was well-produced, entertaining, and personal. Just the right amount of fun, education, and audience participation. I can't see why anyone would visit Iceland without including this on their itinerary. Actors were warm and engaging, seemed to enjoy their work, and made themselves available afterwards for conversation.

In Iceland there is a show about Sagas so run and see it. Fun. Fun and great performers! Very happy to have seen this amazing show. Actors topp world class. Timing was great and the way the cast changed roles was topp class!!
Amazed to see the lead actor in it. Really good and I have seen him in films. It says on IMDB that he will be in FORTITUDE2 for Sky Atlantic. A 75 minute theatrical comedy roller coaster with fun persons and a lot of smiles all around me. We ride through Iceland’s literary heritage – in English of course!!

This is a really special way to fill an evening in Reykjavik. At the iconic Harpa concert hall, in an intimate theatre, with a small cast, the audience are fully drawn into the fun. This 75-minute play is highly energetic and silly, but you also (maybe, possibly, might) learn about the history and culture of Iceland at the same time. There's definitely something in there for everyone to take out from it.

We really loved this 75 minute show, which is a reduced Shakespeare style show of the Icelandic Sagas. It was very funny, but also provided summaries of some of the sagas, which was a fascinating insight into the history and lore of Iceland. Be warned, those in the front row may be invited to participate.

Growing up in the US with Icelandic cultural influences we never heard much about the sagas. A little here and there but no history lessons. This seemed like a perfect opportunity to learn and be entertained. That held up wonderfully. The show was hilarious and informative. It was a great arena style production that utilized a lot of crowd interaction and participation. It was also some great insight in to current Icelandic culture too. I’d highly recommend this show for anyone. It’s great for tourists and Icelanders alike.

Good show with very talented actors. Audience participation made the show fun and entertaining. Might not be the best for children under 10.

For 4,900 ISK (or about $47), you can get a 75-minute distillation of the forty volumes that make up the Icelandic Sagas, and the stories being enacted were full of Viking warfare and bloodletting. The reality though is that it was actually a comedy revue that felt a bit like a free-form improv class complete with audience participation. There were just two performers on a makeshift stage with folding chairs surrounding them on both sides in Harpa's Northern Lights Hall.
Fortunately, the performers that evening - Lilja Nótt Þórarinsdóttir and Björn Ingi Hilmarsson - were comically adept and most engaging. They used props and chose people in the front rows to join in the fun. The show went by quickly which gave me plenty of time afterward to explore the architectural elements of this dramatic concert hall. I'm glad I went because it was the only theater I experienced in Iceland, and I felt like I needed a boost of energy like this to appreciate aspects of the country's history that had eluded me on my self-driving tour.

We didn't have any expectations when buying the tickets. Our intention was to see a show at the Harpa.
The play was a very good surprise and we had a lot of fun. Two enthusiastic actors were giving an entertaining show. It didn't matter that we didn't had the background of the Sagas...
Thank you for a funny evening!

Do we need to book the tickets in advance, or can that be done once we arrive in Reykjavik?
Written June 5, 2018
Hi. You can absolutely buy at Harpa once you are here :)
Giving it is not sold out.
