Helga is WONDERFUL! We were lucky to end up with a private tour for me and my daughter and Helga was as warm and friendly as could be! I had informed Helga that it was my daughter’s birthday and she greeted her with a small gift and an Icelandic rendition of “Happy Birthday”! What a fantastic surprise! My daughter felt so special, it was great! Helga was so accommodating to our schedule and showed us all around the city sharing her insights into the history and legends of the city and Iceland. Helga is very personable, easy to talk to, and very knowledgeable. After the city tour she drove us to the Blue Lagoon and escorted us inside to ensure we were well taken care of upon arrival including ensuring we were able to upgrade our package last minute. We went in the evening and I think it was the PERFECT timing, because it didn’t seem to crowded and we were certainly able to find our own little quiet area for pictures without a million people in the background. The waters were amazing! We kept our hair up out of the water as we heard it can be quite damaging and that seemed to work. We spent about 40 mins in the water and spent the rest of our time at dinner in one of the 2 restaurants. The food was spectacular and they presented a beautiful birthday dessert to my daughter “on the house”. They were very accommodating as we did not have a reservation, but they sat us right away. Our timing couldn’t have been better.
Tip – get a clear waterproof case for your phone so you can take pictures or take them right away at the entrance to the lagoon under the bridge and then take your camera/phone back to the lockers so you can just enjoy your beautiful surroundings.
I felt like old friends with Helga once we were done and she even offered to get us back to the airport the next day. So accommodating and friendly, do not hesitate to choose Helga for your next tour!
**Tips for your tour guides are not expected/mandatory, but always welcomed and appreciated! I wasn’t sure, so I share here for other travelers.**

In early August 2021, I joined Helga's hiking tour to the active volcano. Helga is phenomenal- it was an amazing day out. Helga was a fountain of knowledge, very accommodating to individual needs and generally looked after us all so well. There was great communication prior to the trip also. On the day we visited the volcano it was not active but overnight started oozing lava again- and she was incredible and went out of her way to drive a group of us to and from the volcano again! I wish I had done this tour at the beginning of my stay in Iceland as I would have done more tours with her. Don't hesitate- book Helga!

We had an absolutely phenomenal time during our recent two week dream vacation in Iceland. In fact, we didn't want to leave - we could have happily stayed on for many more weeks. During our time in this gorgeous and otherworldly country, we were so well cared for by Helga Bára Bartels Jónsdóttir, PhD - CEO of Travelling Iceland. Helga and her fabulous team helped us safely and comfortably traverse the entire country, taking in all of the sites, in style. Despite the fact that Icelandic people speak perfect English, I would not recommend that Americans or other foreign visitors attempt to traverse this land without local guides. This is rugged and unusual terrain and Iceland is best enjoyed alongside Icelandic people who know the ins and outs of their beautiful country. During our trip, Travelling Iceland connected us with the following tours and tour guides, all of whom we recommend without reservation: 2 day South coast (guide: Steini), Golden Circle & Reykjavík + Blue Lagoon: (guide: Úlfar), and Þórsmörk (guide: Bjoggi). Ask for all of these folks by name and you cannot go wrong. Thanks again for everything Helga and Travelling Iceland - this was the experience of a lifetime for our whole family!

Travelling Iceland designed the perfect itinerary for my interest in adventure; they filled up every day with hiking, climbing, riding, and boating. When I wanted to make a last-minute change, they made it happen.
Helga, Yandy, and Addý have a true passion for guiding; they gave 110% to every photo and every explanation. When the Northern Lights didn't cooperate, Helga even took me out to look for them a second time! Grateful to TI for an unforgettable experience.

We did the volcano hike/tour in early August with Helga. She was amazing and so knowledgeable, she answered every question we could think of, related to volcanoes and the current eruption. On the day we went, we hoped to see the eruption, but it was "sleeping" at that time. Helga offered to take us another day to try to see the eruption, which was really going above-and-beyond. We did go another day we finally saw the eruption! Helga was also very flexible to help us find the location on our own and she was always very responsive any time we contacted or called her. I definitely plan to return to Iceland and I will tour with Helga again. She genuinely cares about our experience and she wants us to get to know the real Iceland. She is a true gem of this country!

Helga and Henny did a fantastic job organizing a custom action-packed itinerary in Svalbard. The days were filled with hikes across breathtaking valleys and glaciers, kayak and boat trips, and numerous animal sightings (reindeer, artic foxes, whales, walruses, and polar bears). Logistics were well arranged, and they were always available to address any concerns during the trip. Highly recommend!

Travelling Iceland were with me every step of the way. I highly recommend to connect with them to plan your tour in Iceland. They listened to what I wanted, made great suggestions, planned every detail, provided the appropriate information and stayed connected from beginning to end. They are a 5star service at a competitive price.

We were traveling with 4: 2 moms and our 2 boys 13 years old.
We booked the Volcano hike trip with Helga which was Amazing! Luckily we had great weather throughout our 4 days in Iceland.
And on our request she arranged a day trip for us to Jokulsarlon, as our stay was so short she managed to arrange all on a very short notice. Our guide Thomas took us to many more sightseeing locations on our way to jokulsarlon and back. He gave us plenty of info, and was making an effort for our boys as well, with a secret Waterfall.
So in short our trip was one to remember for a lifetime!
Definitely recommending Helga, and traveling Iceland

Me and my husband did the geothermal park and active volcano tour. Helga was an amazing guide, we learned a lot abour Icelandic history and geology. She was really kind and helpful. The hike was exciting and beautiful. Thank you for an amazing experience.

We had an ideal day out hiking in the bee lava fields. The day was well planned and we got a full day of adventure. Helga went above and beyond to make sure everyone enjoyed the trip! Touring with a local will let you learn so much more about Iceland culture and history.
