Prior to my tour Nonny answered a million of my questions and was a pleasure to work with while I figured which tour I wanted to venture ln- ask questions to see what’s right for you! She was wonderful help!

Jonas as Justin were the guides when I was on the Heights and Sights tour and they were genuinely the best! This was a great tour to see the famous Hornvik Bay! After being house bound during 2020 the hike was a bit challenging at times but absolutely worth it over the two days! Both guides allowed us to rest when we needed. They were also very educated/passionate on the area and the environment they were touring which was very clear every time they shared information! Jonas was the kindest and most helpful guide I’ve ever encountered offering to help me with my things if I ever looked like I needed it (which let me tell you I needed the help lol)! Justin was an amazing cook so at the end of a long day we appreciated the beautiful meal.

If you’re up for the workout and have the full two days absolutely book this tour- you won’t regret!

Borea adventures is definitely the right choice for anyone wanting to experience Hornstrandir. They have good guides, good gear, good boats, accommodation. We enjoyed 3 days of hiking and kayaking and frequent encounters of arctic foxes. Weather in September was not very favorable to our plans, so I would recommend going there during summer. Kviar Lodge was very cosy and Runar prepared excellent meals.

Thanks Hanne for the great review. It's true we were a bit unlucky with the weather but you didn't let that bother you. Especially glad hearing that you enjoyed my cooking! All the best

We had a custom 4 day ski touring/guided trip based out of Isafjordur. Our guide was a local and very knowledgeable about the area and skilled in backcountry skiing/avalanche safety. Given the variability of snow conditions, he had scouted out the potential hills for us to climb prior to our arrival to 1) ensure our safety, 2) provide amazing views and 3) have a fun ski down. He knew the mountains and local lore well which made the trip more fun. He sustained a minor injury during one of our ski days , and Borea had another guide available to continue our day within 1.5 hours of the call. We appreciated their flexibility and coverage by their team during the entire trip. The trip exceeded our expectations and we would recommend Borea for winter adventures and hope to come back for some summer adventures in Isafjordur soon!

We took the tour "Wildlife of Vigur Island" with Borea Adventures on August 22th, 2020. Before buying we inquired whether it was too late in the season to have a chance to actually see wildlife, and the answer was that it was still very possible. Therefore we didn't mind to pay 65,800 ISK (405€, two persons) for the activity.
It was only the two of us for the day, so when we met our guide Runar he informed us that his wife would join for the activity, which we didn't mind at all, the more the merrier.
Runar was friendly but not particularly talkative, which is not a problem at all in general, but we expected to get some more information out of him in terms of guiding. When we asked him to provide us with a few fundamentals and hints about kayaking he provided right away, and always answered when we asked about the area or animal species around, but pretty much never gave information or explanations on his own initiative.
We saw a glimpse of porpoises on the way to the island and a few seals close to the island, but almost no birds expect for seagulls and few others. There were no birds at all in the island, not even the eider ducks. The owners of the farm/eider-feather-gatherers (i don't what's the proper name) were at the feather wholesale market (no kidding) that day so the island was empty in that respect as well.
On the way back the wind had rose and we had to fight a little among the waves. It was fun to have a challenge but also made us a little nervous as our guide seemed to be somewhat worried as well.
I reckon we finished the tour a couple of hours before scheduled according to the description on the website. Runan and his wife went on their weekend on a bike trip and their daughter took us back to our car. When we got back the wind had fallen down and the sea in the fjord seemed to be as flat as during the first leg of the kayaking to the island.
Overall, we were disappointed because we didn't get much "guiding insight", we felt that our experience was somewhat re-arranged to fit the guide's private weekend plan, and especially because when we inquired about it, they should have told us that we would have been lucky to see wildlife, not the other way around.
The description on the website "There are puffins everywhere on the island as well as Eider Ducks, Guillemots, Razorbills and other marine birds" is probably true for most of summer, it would just have been fair to inform us ahead that we were too late in the season.
Besides all mentioned above, the scenery is very beautiful, and you still might run into a whale while kayaking.

Hello Flavio and thanks for the review. Sad to hear that the tour was not up to standard. I'm pretty certain that we didn't promise any particular wildlife since that is always hit and miss that late in the season. We for sure mentioned that the puffins would be gone. I actually double checked that beforehand. But I was surprised myself how little wildlife there was. Very few birds for instance. I have to admit that I might not have been very talkative. It had been very busy weeks with very few staff due to the COVID. As always we have to adapt to the weather, especially the wind. It really picked up as you remember and I was worried that we wouldn't make it back to the mainland. That would have been a big problem since we were the only people on the island. So we had to return back while we could. This is not uncommon on sunny days to have sea breeze but it was stronger then normal. Then it died down again in a couple of hours which was also unexpected. It usually doesn't die down until the sun starts setting. I assure you that the trip was not arranged around our weekend plans. But we saw an opportunity to finally do something privately after the trip and tried to make sure that it would not interfere with your experience. I'm sorry that you feel otherwise. Sincerely Runar Karlsson

We were scheduled to be in Isafjordur on NCL Prima on 5/26/23. Booked a kayaking trip directly with Borea on 5/5, they were very helpful in accommodating us even though they were fully booked that day. While boarding the ship, we were advised of an itinerary change, that we would not be going to Isafjordur, even though NCL notified Borea the day before our scheduled port day. Borea charged 30% of the tour price even though the cancellation was completely out of our control. While I would expect a small cancellation fee (to cover credit card fees, etc.), I think 30% is excessive under the circumstances. I'm sure their way of recouping some of their losses from that day. Any excursions purchased directly through NCL would have been refunded 100% by NCL to the passengers.

Hello and thank you for the feedback Our cancellation policy is pretty standard and printed in the same font and size as all the other text on your booking and clearly stated on our website. You also have to agree to the cancellation policy and other terms before you make the booking. All the best

Just getting back from a wonderful trip to Iceland and one of the highlights was going on the Hornstandir Reserve 3 day excursion. Our guide Bridie was knowledgeable, flexible and accommodating. She really went out of her way to make sure we had a great time and tried to differentiate the hikes based on what we were looking for. The two other guides (I forget their names) were also excellent and friendly. The hikes themselves were incredible and we enjoyed the cooking and basecamp experience. All in all, a fantastic time - would strongly recommend the 3 day hike and this company for anyone looking for adventure in the West Fjords.

Wow, what a pleasant surprise! I booked a 6 day kayak tour, hoping for the best. And honestly, the best is what I got! All of the paddlers, 4 of us clients and the guide, were competent and prepared paddlers. The tour was wonderful. A combination of tent camping and staying in amazing historical and remote buildings. The setting was what I had dreamed of. Wildlife sightings were abundant. Brendan Jackson, our guide, was safe and knowledgable with out being the least bit stifling. I'd paddle with him anytime!

They also lead hikes and backpacking trips, day and half day kayak tours, skiing and Arctic Fox photography expeditions in the winter. I'm sure that there is more as well.

Finally, the company is owned by local Icelandic folks and the inclusion of culture and history was a significant bonus on the tour!

Thanks for a great review. i'm very pleased that you liked the kayaking adventure. It's my favourite trip as well but unfortunately I haven't lead the trip myself for the last couple of years. We're very lucky to have Brendan in our team. Very professional and knowledgeable guide. All the best

We had a wonderful time on the Hornvik heights and sights tour in early July! We had six people in our group and two guides, Luke and Orla (though typically there’s one guide). The Hornstrandir area is beautiful, and our guides told us about the history of the area and pointed out the different types of wildflowers we saw on our hike. On the first day, we hiked uphill from the fjord, took a lunch break (they provided a pack lunch), hiked over a mountain ridge (which involved walking through a few snow fields), and down into the valley where the campsite is located. The base camp area was nice, and it was great not to have to pitch our own tents! The tents do let in a fair amount of light, so I would recommend packing an eye mask. We also saw a few arctic foxes running around, and a seal not far from the shore. On the second day, we hiked on the beach near the campsite for a bit (including a short river crossing) before heading up the Hornbjarg mountain. On our way up, we encountered another arctic fox that hung around near us for a few minutes! Much of the hike was quite steep, but extremely worth it. From the top we had an incredible view of the fjord, the valley, the river we crossed, the surrounding mountains, and the sea. We finished the hike by descending down to the shore, and got picked up by the boat. This was a great capstone to our two week vacation in Iceland!

We spent 3 days in Kviar Lodge in Hornstrandir. The local knowledge, equipment and facilities of Borea Adventures were very good, even if the house was 'rustic' with very low ceilings which encouraged numerous bumped heads. The boat crew were excellent - friendly and professional. And Kviar itself was quite good, even if you had to hike all day to get to the really superb landscape. So from that standpoint, I can recommend this company. The problem that I faced though, was lack of English.

Now I should be clear: everyone I met with this company was capable of speaking excellent English. But as luck would have it, the group of 10 people staying with me in Kviar were all Icelandic, and spoke nothing but Icelandic among themselves. So the guide spoke Icelandic to them, and forgot about speaking English to me (and I don't speak Icelandic). Despite repeated requests to get translations of key directions and local information in English, I didn't usually get them. So I missed out on a lot.

I suspect that if you are there with a group of English-speaking tourists, you will have absolutely no problem. Similarly, if you're all Icelandic. But be warned if you expect to be part of only 1 or 2 English-speaking visitors amongst many Icelanders. You will be ignored!

Paddle in the Wild

We had 6 very fantastic days in kayak, seeing lot of whales and some of them very close to the kayaks, and lot og eagles, one dolphin, seals, puffins, arctic foxes, and a very very beautiful nature.

We lucky to have a very professional guide, who had a lot of knowledge about the wildlife, and the history of the the area where we were kayaking. And on top of that very service minded. It is one of my best kayak trips ever.

I am working for a trip with you next year to Greenland
