- Michal VOlomouc, Czech Republic1 contributionSmooth deal, nice companyIt was a great experience. The guys from Camping Cars were really nice and helpful, instructed us just about everything, filled us with useful tips. Our 2015 Suzuki GV had a few dents and scratches, but hey - it wasn't a new car. It was very clean, everything working (even the cruise control), WiFi on board saved us more than once. The only "bad" thing: They aren't open 24/7. We came to KeflavĂk around midnight and had to wait till 7AM. But it was worth the wait.Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 23, 2023
- Jan Martin B1 contributionRecommended 🤩👍Camping Cars did an amazing job at Introducing and show how to use the car along with the roof top tent we choose with the car. The service and simplicity of the rental prosess made it effortless and joyful from A to B. The staff is kind, flexible, motivated and service minded. I would definitely choose this company again.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 8, 2023
- Randall C1 contributionBest Camping Car Rental in Iceland!Nicest lads! Booked a Suzuki Vitara with a roof tent for 3 days during some pretty bad gusts and rain during this winter weather, and the car worked great! - Niels L1 contributionAll in all an positive experiencePicked us up very quickly at the airport after calling them as described. At their office they were helpfull in providing some information about the road conditions, what was expected, and even some interesting destinations. Did not do very difficult all with the return (was instructed that it needed to be semi-clean and that was indeed enough for them). They seemed to have realistic expectations with the state of the car at the return as it was already well used (whilst being ok maintained) on pickup. The wifi module was an unexpected addition we got for free which was nice as well. All in all an positive experienceVisited June 2024Traveled with friendsWritten July 3, 2024
- Eric L1 contributionGreat experiences, budget friendly too!2015 Suzuki Grand Vitara Staff is friendly and pickup is quick and direct to and from the airport. The SUV and included Wifi worked great and got us to many places even in the highlands. Rooftop tent is nice and comes with comfy mattress and cushions, can be a bit cold at night but the fabric really keeps the light and rain out! It's an older car so it has some minor quirks and superficial wear but that's to be expected. The trunk area smelled bad and full of cleaning agent smell. I assume the last guests had spilled something nasty and the workers did their best to clean it out. Overall 9/10Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 20, 2024

- Deb H1 contributionGreat vehicle for a ring road adventureWe had a great experience with Camping Cars. The car was big enough to keep 2 large suitcases and 2 carry-ons organized. We had a 2015, 6 cylinder, Suzuki Grand Vitara and it drove really nice and handled well in the wind and on gravel roads. The tent was extremely easy to set up and take down. Note, if you’re short you might have to step up on the back bumper to get the tent latched. The tent inside was nice and dark and the sleeping pad was comfortable. The pillows were flat so if you like a more fluffy pillow you should bring your own. A few things that could be improved are the headlights, they were dim and made driving at night difficult unless you used your brights. Also the tent had some threadbare spots due to its age. When it rained water did wick through leaving the mattress damp so we had to air it out before using it the following night. Please note that we did rent an older vehicle so we knew we would have some wear and tear on the car and tent. So if you rent an older car don’t expect perfection. Overall a great experience and we would rent from Camping Cars again.Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 15, 2024
- Jessi S1 contributionAwesome experience!Awesome Experience! Camping cars was amazing! The airport pick up & drop off along with the check-in was seamless! I rented a Suzuki Vitara with a rooftop tent for a 2 week solo roadtrip around Iceland’s famous ring road! The car was great, strong and in great condition, unfortunately being an older model she didn’t have BT or Aux cable, I listened to the radio a lot but it would’ve been ideal to hookup to the car stereo, if you like listening to music while driving like I do I would recommend bringing a speaker! There are a lot of gravel roads so I would highly recommend getting the gravel insurance! The windshield was my biggest concern as large stones fly up from cars overtaking too fast on the roads! The rooftop tent (my rooftop apartment :)) was spacious and comfortable, I am very glad I asked for more blankets as it was very cold and in all honestly the further North I drive the colder it got and I ended up staying at a few hostels! I would also make sure to try find camping grounds with good sheltered areas, on the very windy days make sure you are facing into the wind properly and keep an eye on your ladder! I had an absolutely incredible trip! There are so many stunning places to see and so many exciting things to experience and it would not have been possible without my trusty Camping Car! She never let me down! Lastly the WiFi - what an awesome idea, watching movies in my tent before bed was such a treat! Thanks again!Visited September 2024Traveled soloWritten September 22, 2024

This car rental company is the best you can get all over Iceland. We established a relationship by mail at first since the pandemic could have affected our travel plans. Everybody has been fully available and sympathetic infact we arrived in the middle
Of the night and we slept in a place close to the airport. The day later, we called the rental car company and a man came to pick us up there for free. They also have been very nice and explained everything in detail(bigger companies just give you the keys, let you sign tons of documents and let you go). We have googled a lot and explored many options around KeflavĂk airport.
To be honest the company has a limited choice of 4x4 but at the end of our vacation we can firmly state that CAMPING CAR S COMPANY IS THE BEST YOU CAN GET. The vehicles are kept in good conditions and our Dacia Duster was simply amazing. The car was clean, tyres were new, Wi-Fi was unlimited, camping chairs were comfortable; the company offered also new gas bottles that other clients left before departing. Last but not least there is a special promo code you can use for your next trip to Iceland. So… if you have been there to admire the midnight sun, why not coming back to be enraptured by the northern lights? Come back or experience the most unforgettable and wildest nature in Europe!

We rented the Suzuki grand Vitara with rooftop tent for a week in June 2023. This car was from 2015 with 400.000 km on the odometer. During the week, we noticed a lot of technical and safety issues. We informed the company about it after drop off at the airport and didn't get any response at all after 3 emails. Also no confirmation that the car was returned properly. These kind of cars shouldn't be out for rental any longer !!!
And not responding to emails after these remarks is very unprofessional as well.

Excellent company, their number one priority is to ensure you're happy with everything and they go above and beyond to ensure that you are well equipped with not only the right equipment but the knowledge to safely enjoy your trip.
The team are very knowledgeable and friendly. The vehicles seem to be well maintained and our Suzuki Vitara performed excellently, tackling every road and weather condition that we were faced with.
I hope to visit again later this year, and the guys at Camping Cars will be my first phone call.

Renting a camping car on Iceland is not cheap, but Camping Cars gives you good value for money.
As we arrived in Keflavik, we called the company and we were picked up with more or less momentarily. The office is a short drive from the terminal, and we were given very informative instructions on how to set up and take down the roof tent (amazingly simple to do, by the way.)
Having driven on gravel roads before, I appreciated that they did not try to sell us all kinds of insurance. Instead, they gave us coupons for free coffee at select gas stations.
The car had quite a few miles on it, but was functioning well.
The drop-off was no hassle. A quick check for any major damage and then we were taken to the terminal to go home.
I will definitely choose Camping Cars again, should I go back for another Icelandic adventure.

We had a great experience with Camping Cars. We decided to go with a local car rental company rather than one of larger international companies and were glad we did. they picked us up (and dropped us off) at the airport which was nice and they gave us some local driving tips. We knew we would be traveling over the gravel roads and going to the highlands both of which are fine with the 4x4s provided by Camping Cars. The Ford Escape has 8" ground clearance and handled it all just fine. Each rental comes with a WiFi hot spot in the car which worked surprisingly well for our needs.

The car (Suzuki Grand Vitara) was agood little warrior- took us through the rivers and up the mountains far enough! The standard roof tent is good- maybe just a bit short if one sleeper is 193cm (the other one was a bit shorter- it helped). The added bonuses where wifi router and a thermos (the latter came with the additionally rented kitchen set I guess). Service was fast and frindly.

We got exactly what we booked and were surprised by the smoothest pick up procedure. The Guy who gave the car us was very nice and ambitious and showed us a bunch of useful websites to navigate through Iceland, find campsites and even to check the aurora chances. He gave us a short introduction to the roof tent and gave advice how to park the car to not get too much trouble with the wind. On the road we decided to take the car for a bit longer and changed the booking, easily with one call. Awesome service! The car was absolutely good and we were surprised by the wifi router, wich worked perfect most of the time (sometimes too far from civilization there was just no signal at all). We were absolutely happy with Camping Cars Car Rental and would recommend them without hesitation.

I rented an automatic Suzuki Grand Vitara for a ten day trip around Iceland. In ten days, I did around 3500 km, and didn't have a single problem. I took some of the hardest F roads (carefully, because I was alone) and didn't have any trouble at all. After hearing many horror stories from lots of other people I met about their rentals, I felt quite lucky to have my trip go so smoothly. I didn't once have to change a tire, even after driving over the insane lava field to Askja. River crossings were very scary, but with caution and focus, I had no trouble at all even though the Grand Vitara isn't the highest 4wd around. I would absolutely use this company again if I could actually afford another long holiday driving around one of the most expensive countries on Earth. I really recommend them.
Did I mention the vehicle came with a free Wifi hotspot? Which, let me tell you, was absolutely indispensable. Saved me very, very often. XD

hi friends! we want car with a roof tent. i know about strong wind in Iceland. its not a problem?? where can you stop for a night with roof top tent? only at campgrounds?? and what you need to take to sleep in roof tent, sleeping bags?? we are two adults. thanks for your help!!!
Written March 28, 2019
Hi,
We have been using these kinds of tents on our rental cars since 2012 without any issues, so wind is not a problem for them.
Wild camping is not allowed anymore in Iceland, so yes you will have to stay at campgrounds.
The roof top tent comes with a mattress, clean sheet, and 2 pillows, and for a small fee you can get a warm sleeping bag as well.
Please feel free to contact us if you have more questions.
Rg,
CampingCars Team.

I would like to book your van with the tent on mid October, but I doubt if the weather will be too cold for me to sleep in the tent?

Hi, i guess october is too late for tents if you appreciate some comfort, wind and rain and cold combined might put you off, but then again, well prepared, there is many things one can possibly want to do, good luck
