We did the 3 hour "Whales and Sails" tour on what is Iceland's oldest schooner and it was incredible. We watched the RIB tours and the more traditional whale watching vessels (we did a motorized tour 2 years ago) essentially chase after the whales, in effect, scaring them away. Well, our beautiful schooner sat and let the whales come to us, with the extremely quiet motor turning as needed. We saw many more whales on this tour than we did on the more traditional vessel. With a little patience (and the sun coming out didn't hurt, either), 3 humpbacks swam around us and put on quite the show. We were traveling with our friends and between us, we had 5 kids, ranging from 9 months to 9 years old. Perhaps except for the baby, everyone was entertained and comfortable. Tour guide, a young Spaniard marine biologist, was excellent, as were the captain and first mate.…

'Whales and Sails' is one of our most popular tours, and we are very proud of our schooner Opal. What a beautiful experience to share with friends indeed! We have another 'silent boat'- Andvari- that is also carbon neutral because it is powered by electric. Come take a tour with us the next time you are in Húsavík!

The weather was chilly but clear. Few clouds. We did get to see whales, including humpbacks. The vessel wasn't crowded. Worth the time and money for the experience.

Thank you for your review. I am very glad that you were able to see whales during your tour! We do keep our boat capacity as low as possible to ensure space for our passengers, and have limited it to 80% this summer. We would be happy to see you again the next time you are in the Húsavík area!

Everything all right. Info about what your own clothes need to be would help not to wear everything double.

Many thanks for your feedback! Wearing warm layers is important almost all year round here in the North of Iceland, and we do provide a water resistant set of overalls and rain clothes as well to go over the top. Gloves, hats and scarves/face buff are also good to bring along as we want you to stay warm on board! We are happy that you took a tour with us, and that you come see us again soon!

An amazing experience with a very experienced crew. Not to raise our expectations, the crew sailed out to the bay passing by a number of humpbacks on the way - but the outcome was fantastic - they indeed allowed us to see something extraordinary - we encountered a blue whale feeding in the bay. We stopped by the humpbacks on the way - and there were at least 5 blows from humpbacks that we could see. Not to mention the thousands of puffins we have seen on the way out. It was worth having a flexible itenary though as on the day we had originally booked the tour for the weather was not good for sailing. But the team rebooked us for a tour available on the following day. The process was smooth and the team very helpful and friendly. We would wholeheartedly recommend this tour.…

Thank you for sharing your time with us- it sounds like an unforgettable experience! Blue whales are frequent visitors here this time of year, but less of a guarantee of course. Our crew will go out of their way to try to get a good viewing of all whales, but especially something like a feeding blue whale. Hopefully you visit the Húsavík area again, and if you do we would love to have you onboard again!

We went on a watching tour in Husavik on 05/24/2022. The tour was with North Sailing. We were on the wooden boat, Gardar. We saw a couple of Humpback whales that hung around the boat for about 15 minutes each. On our way back to the dock we were served hot cinnamon rolls and hot chocolate by the crew. It was a very enjoyable cruise. I was able to get some nice whale footage with my Lumix camera. I would definitely recommend North Sailing Whale watching tours.…
