Our Family of 4 very much enjoyed our sailing and whale watching tour by North Sailing. We took the electric eco-friendly ship and it was amazing. We were able to see quite a few whales and some quite close. The captain and crew were very experienced and it made a huge difference in the number of whales we were able to see. They crew shared stories and details about the whales. They also served a hot snack during the trip. I would recommend getting the full-body sailing outerwear that is included with the trip. No matter how warm it may be onshore, out on the water it can be very windy and cold and you will be on deck the entire trip. Can't wait for a return trip!

Some changes made due to c-19. We moved from sailing ship to motorized bigger, but the passengers where well separated and most appeared to distance avoiding. We were well informed days before tour on change of ship and that the service of hot chocolate and cinnamon cookies would be suspended. Kristian did a vey good guidance aboard and after all we had more than ten humpback whales sightings as well as some nices. A few puffins even swam clise to ship. A very good experience. You get 20% discount in museum with the ticket as well as some others in restaurant etc in harbour.

even we saw only one humpback, it was a fantastic experience, due to the captains exxcellent navigatin, I shot some fantastic fotographs of this amaazing animal.
And above all tis we got the feeling of the old sailers, cause we wnet on one of the older sailing ships. Highly recomended.
We will come back !!

We did the "Husavik Original Whale Watching and Puffins" at North Sailing because we were willing to pay extra for an environmental friendly trip and to see the puffins. It turns out that the boat ran on a diesel engine, was overcrowded and that the Puffin island is included in all the tours of the other companies, thus you got nothing for the extra cost.

Next time I would take a speedboat tour at a competing company instead, as for this trip you spend 2,5 hours sailing to see whales for 15 minutes. With a speedboat you would minimize the boring and sea-sickness-inducing part considerably.

Finally, manage your expectations, the marketing material is greatly exaggerated!

Thank you for taking the time to write this honest review. We highly appreciate it. North Sailing has a fleet of 10 boats, of which 2 of them are electric. The other 8 boats are not electric (yet) and are therefore run on diesel engines like you mention in your review. We offer a few types of tours, including the Silent Whale Watching which is run on our electric boats. The Húsavík Original Whale Watching & Puffins is unfortunately not run on boats with electric engines, which is the reason why the boat you were on ran on diesel engine. I’m very sorry if there was some misunderstanding or miscommunication, and that you thought the boat you were going on was run on electricity. All the whale watching companies in Húsavík offer both classic whale watching and whale watching including puffins - i.e. there are only certain tours that include puffin watching, and they are all more expensive than classic whale watching. In the summer 2020, Húsavík Original Whale Watching & Puffins with North Sailing was the cheapest option in Húsavík that included sailing around the puffin island. The reason why the puffin tours are more expensive than the classic whale watching, is simply that it requires a 30 minute detour around the island, i.e. a 30 minute longer tour. Since we are dealing with the wild nature at all times in our tours, we can never guarantee anything when it comes to sightings. Therefore, no two tours are the same and some tours are simply more successful than others. I hope we can welcome you on board with us again sometime in the future so that you can get the chance of a better experience :) If you want to contact us, feel free to send us an email or call us anytime! Kind regards, Þórný

Our family loved our whale watching adventure with North Sailing! Our five-year old grandson was a it scared of stepping onto a big wooden boat, but the crew really went out of their way to help ease his initial fears. Not only did we see several magnificent whales, but they expertly guided us to guided us to come quite close using no motors. I also loved their mission to remove micro plastics from Iceland waters using a contraption attached to the boat, as well as other initiatives. Great way to spend an afternoon in Iceland!

The staff was nice and professional, everything went smooth. They gave us overalls, hot chocolate and cinamom buns. I am giving 4 stars because we did not see any whales, so it was basically 3 hours spent outside in the freezing weather. It was painful and I got sick (not the companies fault of course - any of it). They were super nice and gave us a ticket for free for the next time, but since we were leaving Iceland, it means we would have to come back. So I definitely RECOMMEND IT, just keep in mind that you may end up being dissapointed.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry to hear you didn't see whales on your tour :( It is still the beginning of the whale season here and it is not possible to guarantee whale sightings but we do try to make things a little more comfortable by providing warm overalls and a hot drink with snúðar ( cinnamon buns!) Your ticket will be valid forever so absolutely let us know the next time you are in Iceland!

Thank you so much for such a fab day. We had no expectations of seeing a whale at this time of year, but we got so lucky!! Saw a couple of humpack whales!

Even if we hadn’t seen the whales, the trip was special. The staff on the boat were so friendly and answered any questions we had. They actually stayed out longer than they had to, just so we could see the whale one last time! Cinammon rolls and hot choc were sublime.

100/10 would recommend this company. It’s a special day, one that I will never forget.

Thank you, diolch yn fawr

Whale watching with the North Sailing was an amazing experience. I was sailing with Christian Schmidt and the crew from Árskógssandur. They were very nice, highly experienced and profesional. The highlight of our tour was breaching humpackwhales. I am very happy to recommend North Sailing, Christian and the crew to any future whale watchers.

We went on the old sailboat. Did a little sailing at the end coming back. Started out around 1430, At the beginning there was little activity. Saw a few whales breaking at a distance, However about the time we were turning around a group of dolphins started playing nearby and then several whales broke surface. The Capitan went out of his way to make sure the passengers were able to get a full viewing.

Thank you for this lovely review, we truly appreciate it :) Whale watching is never completely over until back in the harbour - there's always a chance of seeing some on the way back, and I'm happy to hear that was the case in your tour. Such a nice surprise! Thank you for the kind words about our crew :) I hope we'll see you again someday! Kind regards, Þórný

Me and my wife had a great time on this magical day. We saw for the first time humpback whales and several other species like dolphins, sea lions and another whale that cannot remember right now. It was a dream come true for the both of us to just see it so close to us. Also, the tour was awesome thanks to the fun and kind staff that we had. Definitely will be back next time we visit the north of Iceland.
