For our trip to Iceland, we wanted something more personalized that would include hiking and seeing things “off the beaten path”. Since my husband is a retired hydrogeologist, we wanted to explore the “cool geology” of Iceland more than the usual tours would offer. Also, we wanted to visit Husavik, now known as the town from the movie “Eurovision: Story of Fire Saga” and we are huge fans! The tours we initially found were group tours and focused on the Ring Road and major attractions (i.e. buses in and out) and would not include Husavik, and we also talked to a travel agent (who was honest and said she had nothing that would be suitable for what we wanted). We then did our own search for hotels in Husavik, found the Cape Hotel and from there found the Eurovision Walking Tour and were linked to Travel North. And we struck gold!! Travel North is based in Husavik, and after a couple of video chats with Francesco (forever now known as BEST.GUIDE.EVER) he designed and organized the most amazing tour. Truly a trip of a lifetime, he hit it all – the cool geology like volcanos, lava fields, glaciers, geologic formations, waterfalls, lakes, the hikes, museums and other cultural sites, and my personal favorite geologic sites – geothermal spas! It was all just simply wonderful. We stayed in Husavik for multiple days as kind of a “base camp” to do local day trips before heading out and taking the eastern side of the Ring Road back to Reykjavik with more amazing stops along the way! We did start our first day in Husavik with the Eurovision Walking Tour hosted by Guiditta – she did a fantastic job on hitting the highlights from scenes of the movie, and of course a stop at the Ja Ja Ding Dong Bar. We were thrilled to find out she was an extra in the movie!!! Definitely a highlight of the trip. Then, with Francesco as our guide/host, we simply met in the mornings, and were off for the day’s itinerary. Francesco is so knowledgeable about the geology, history, culture and fun facts about Iceland. AND he is very thorough with booking everything and attending to all the details while keeping us appraised with any changes and options due to road and weather conditions/volcano activity. And we saw the Northern Lights! While one can’t guarantee seeing the Northern Lights - conditions have to be just right for them to appear - it wouldn’t surprise me if somehow Francesco managed to organize that too. It was a “bucket list” dream trip – all we had to do is show up with our rain and hiking gear (and gifts for the elves!) After the first day we were already planning our next trip with Travel North and Francesco. Whether you choose to self-drive using one of their itineraries or make use of their guided tours, we highly recommend Travel North. You will be one happy traveler!

If you travel to Iceland, you must see the North. Amazing sights and better weather in summer than the South. We were worried about a long driving time to Akureyri. The flights by Icelandair from Reykjavik to Akureyri are only 45’ and pretty comfortable. The domestic airport in Reykjavik is 5’ drive from downtown Reykjavik.
We booked our Northern tours with Travel North, a full service agency in Husavik (about 50’ drive from Akureyri). Giuditta was very helpful with scheduling the tours and guiding the tour in Husavik. This small charming town became famous due to the song The Story of Fire Saga which took multiple awards at Eurovision.
Most of our tours were guided by Gunnar - the agency manager. Gunnar is an outstanding guide with deep knowledge and understanding of the area. At least two of the tours from Akureyri/Husavik are a must: Myvatn Lake area and Arctic Shores (going North from Akureyri along the breathtaking fjords). The tour to Jökulsárgljúfur is an opportunity to hike along the fissure created at the meeting line of the major tectonic plates (European-Asian and American).
Travel North organizes also self driven tours including itinerary design, hotel reservations etc..

Two weeks as a couple “on the road” to get to know the island of ice. “On the road” is also the name of the chat on whattsapp that Travel North, the local tour operator that packaged our trip with the help of Mariantonietta from Italy, opened to give us real-time support during our stay in Iceland. The assistance we received lasted until the end of our holiday. We packaged the itinerary together with Mariantonietta, who combined our wishes with the experience in the field, made the changes required to make the trip we wanted. The organizational machine worked very well, we never had problems with the bookings of the different structures, different in level from each other, from the most traditional to the most basic, but always very clean, in areas where the Icelandic offer is more limited. In addition to suggestions on places to see, we also enjoyed those on restaurants, which always turned out to be in line with our needs. For us, who usually organize everything on our own, using a local operator was a novelty and a positive experience that allowed us to admire the beauty of nature and the most hidden landscapes of this unique country that amazes every moment

10-day small group trip to Iceland with several treks, not tiring and very different from each other.
Splendid and extremely varied itinerary: from Reykjavik to the north of Husavik and beyond, a few km from the Arctic Circle, passing through the center to return to the capital.
Away from the madding crowd, in August we were often alone among waterfalls, volcanoes, boiling fumaroles, rushing rivers, green moors and geysers, and then sailing among the whales, original and fun cultural visits, with a stay (as a base for travel) in a spacious guest house near Husavik, on a romantic and exclusive pier towards the sea, with its spectacular sunsets.
Francesco Perini was our guide: very professional, he knows everything about Iceland and takes us everywhere, guiding, telling, helping and participating, in a gentlemanly and truly friendly way.
It is attentive to everyone's needs and desires: from the possibility of choosing the courses at meals, to the off-the-beaten-path Icelandic wool shop, to the spas overlooking the sea, but not crowded, where you can take a hot bath...and it is only thanks to the his nocturnal reports that we saw, in August, a beautiful Northern Lights.
In his company, you will truly see Iceland and be part of it.

I have just been to Iceland with my family and we relied on Travel North to organize our trip. I thank Francesco who took care of defining our itinerary down to the smallest detail, satisfying our requests to the letter, and was extremely helpful throughout the pre-departure period to resolve all our doubts. We sincerely thank Lorenzo, who accompanied us for the entire duration of the trip, an extremely competent, friendly and professional person. He took us to see beautiful places, adapting the trip also based on the weather conditions, making the most of the days and explaining the history of each place that we would never have known if we had traveled alone. Thanks for everything!

We did a complete tour of Iceland with a small group, visiting many places and experiencing indescribable emotions. Everything was possible thanks to the magnificent places that characterize this fantastic island but above all thanks to the great professionalism and preparation of the guide Lorenzo.
The times were always calculated to perfection and thanks to this we managed to visit everything indicated in the program as well as some other little gems that the guide reserved for us among many, I was impressed by what we baptized "Mars 1".
The clement weather and traveling companions who were always punctual and precise certainly helped.
Although it was a very intense tour, we must recognize the guide's ability to listen to the needs of all the members of the trip by proposing convenient departure and arrival times, guaranteeing breaks and lunches and dinners in typical and excellent places.
The selected accommodations were up to par but some were real gems resulting from the organizers' experience and knowledge of the area. We returned nostalgic but happy and with an in-depth knowledge of this wonderful island.

We took part in the 5-day guided tour of the south and west coast of Iceland between March and April. We were fully satisfied with all aspects: the beauty of the landscapes, the professionalism of the guide Lorenzo, and the pleasant company of the group.
We particularly appreciated the ability to modify the itinerary to take into account rapidly changing weather conditions. In fact, despite a couple of days of very strong winds and the closure of part of the route due to volcanic activity on the Reykjanes peninsula, the experience was not affected at all.
Absolutely recommended.

We traveled the Ring Road clockwise, also including the Snæfellsnes peninsula (highly recommended even if off the beaten track). A beautiful journey with well-calibrated, varied and interesting stages. the assistance of the Travel North - Evaneos team both in the planning phase of the trip (advice, reservations, indications of points of interest) and during the trip (always available via WhatsApp) was professional and very effective as well as humanly friendly and pleasant . Well done! special thanks to Giuditta and Francesco who supervised our journey.

One of the most beautiful places I have visited! A wonderful island, with natural contrasts that stimulate sight, smell, hearing... Francesco, our highly trained guide, showed us places a little outside the usual tourist circuits and then Nature did the rest, giving us sunny days, expanses of flowering heather and ripe blueberries, waterfalls, fumaroles, red earth, expanses of lava, rushing rivers, very lucky grazing animals, even two unexpected Northern Lights (rare in the month of August!!)... The accommodations were all comfortable but the guest house in Tungulending deserves a special place in the heart, our "magical" house on the pier!!!! Thanks to Francesco, who conveyed his love for that magical land, to Martin for the two delicious dinners cooked before our eyes and the very nice girl from Puglia (whose name unfortunately I don't remember) who cooked the first (excellent!) dinner!

Tour of the island experienced in an excellent way, a very special experience among breathtaking views, desert and magical places, accompanied by the guide/driver Lorenzo. Always attentive, available, well prepared and very professional who manages to convey the love he feels for this land. He made us connect with this country with anecdotes and stories, making even the various transfers pleasant. He acted as a translator, meteorologist, valid guide and also gave us a hand in eating gluten-free 🙂 in short, a pleasant travel companion. Thank you for this unforgettable adventure!! We have to go back!
