what a nice guy - Leo of WideOpen, so kind and helpful. Since he was unable to do a tour in our week, he suggested to rent out his snowshoes - which was GREAT!
Highly recommended!

We went snow walking around Akureyri with Leo. Perfect experience: beautiful hike through hills, mountains and lots of snow. No people around you - great way to experience nature in North Island. Group of 5 people.

Guides usually talk too much and make too many bad jokes, but Leo is great: he helps where needed, talks when it’s useful but without being obtrusive.

Snow walking itself is like hiking: you need some physical ability, but nothing too heavy.

Hi Bram, Thanks for this great review. I really appreciate you sharing your experience with others. I am happy you liked the snowshoe hike. It would be difficult not to enjoy so much snow. This was winter paradise at its best. Greetings, Leo

I was in Iceland on a solo trip and I was able to join Leo and a group a 5 Dutch tourists on a lovely snowshoe adventure in Akureryi. In addition to treating us to spectaular views and information, he brought tea and pastries for us to enjoy once we reached our destination. Leo was super friendly and knowledgeable and I had a fantastic time! His story was inspiring and I'm so glad I went.

To explore Iceland and really enjoy the beautiful countryside we decided to use a guide and WideOpen Hiking ended up being the right choice.
From initial booking to actually meeting up the experience was smooth and easy. After a short car trip to the hiking destination we had a wonderful day with Leo who was patient, informative and well prepared (he even had walking sticks in case we didn't have our own).
We were able to make the walk at our own pace although Leo was a lot more fit he chose a route that was not too difficult for us as "causal" walkers and kept pace with us.
Leo chose to take us to the Hraunsvatn area where we visited the lake (HRAUNSVATN) which has a special story. (I will let you experience it with leo) and learned a lot about the local area and Icelandic culture.
We spent the whole day in conversation which was a real bonus as the experience for us was not just about the scenery and walking but also meeting people from the region. Leo speaks excellent English and French and I believe Icelandic although I can't judge :-) .
I wholeheartedly recommend WideOpen hiking to anyone wanting to hike in the Akureryi area or further afield as Leo will be happy to help in other regions as well. Leo can adapt the hikes according to the groups capabilities which is a real plus!
Thank you Leo and till the next time!

Dear Mike & Sue, I am really happy that you enjoyed the hike to the Hidden Mountain Lake so much. For me it is always a joy to share a hike and a day in pristine nature with people like you. Hopefully we see each other again next time you come to Iceland. Indeed, there are many more hikes in the area you would really enjoy. All the best, Leo

Leo took us on one of the most memorable adventures of a four-week holiday. Hiking the mountains overlooking Akureyri, Iceland, he not only shared with us the history and the culture of the people, but also some of the economic and environmental tradeoffs necessary to ensure a sustainable future for this island of only 350,000 people. When an unexpected blizzard enveloped us, he was prepared with everything from extra gloves to hot tea! I highly recommend this hiking tour for those who are interested in experiencing the hearty and pristine nature of Iceland. But bring hiking shoes, poles, and a bit of physical stamina! One never knows about the weather!

I thoroughly recommend this trip. Leo ,the guide was extremely patient with us novices and rapidly had us striding out over the snow. The views were spectacular and snowshoeing is easily picked up if you enjoy hiking.
His English was superb and he regaled us with history/ geology / biology as we went along.
He had packed a picnic for us which was unexpected and greatly appreciated.

Spent an excellent afternoon with Leo hiking on Snowshoes for the 1st time, this was an excellent experience and Leo is a great guy with lots of experience of hiking and climbing the Icelandic hills and mountains.
I will say 1sr that I’m not the fittest person but Leo made regular stops so that no one was left behind and pushed beyond their capabilities. We climbed to roughly 650 metres and the views were excellent. I would recommend this to anyone as it’s a great experience.

Hi Bill ! I am happy you enjoyed the snowshoe hike so much in spite of the snow conditions that weren't great. But it was an amazingly beautiful day and the views were spectacular. An afternoon hiking in Iceland is always an afternoon well spent, isn't it? Thanks for your positive feedback! Best wishes, Leo
