No right to be this good
Sep 2021 • Couples
Given both where we are, Northern Iceland, and when we are, September just after the first snows, this garden has no right to be as good as this

Immaculately maintained, very well labelled, wide range of plants, quite a lot in flower

Lovely cafe too

A Splash of Color
Aug 2021
It was so much fun walking through the botanic garden and being assaulted by a variety of colors on a drab day. One of the things I really liked about this garden is that it had a special section on arctic flowers and plants. Seeing them next to other flowering plants impressed upon me the self-protective measures a plant undertakes to thrive in an arctic climate.

Beautiful Botanic Gardens
Aug 2021
This was my favorite part of Akureyri! These gardens are more extensive than I imagined for a little city. They are full, well laid out, colorful flowers, and a very pleasant place to spend a while. There's a lovely cafe in a pretty setting. A calm place to visit after more hectic activity.

Lovely park and gardens
Aug 2021
Lovely park and gardens to wander round in. Be aware if you come from the direction of the Akureyri Museum it's real steep climb the last few yards on a rough path!

Well maintained beds and well defined paths. Lovely display of flowers I'm well acquainted with in my own garden, it's interesting to see them growing this far North. It's not over burdened with benches to sit and linger on, but there's a few dotted around if you don't want to sit on the grass. And a nice coffee shops with tables outside. A lovely park and gardens.

A must see
Jul 2021
We have been to many a botanic garden, and this one is top notch. Both small gardens and sweeping beds of color, this is THE place to go in the City. Stroll and enjoy.

Lovely place for a short stroll
Jul 2021
Small but perfectly formed! Akureyri's botanical garden is lovely with plenty of beautiful trees and flowers and a lovely fountain to appreciate on a short wander through the grounds. There's a coffee shop too if you are in the gardens during the day. Definitely worth a visit if in town even if it is a bit of a climb from the town centre.

Beautiful gardens
Aug 2021
Absolutely beautiful gardens, meticulously kept. Good information next to each species. Water features and sculptures throughout too. Hilly, but wheelchair accessable throughout. Free with lots of free parking too.

It’s a long way to Akureyri but go see the flowers!
Jul 2021 • Couples
It’s a long way to Akureyri but if you’re there the botanical garden is well worth the visit. My husband and I were amazed by the variety of flowers, some of which we had never seen. We were there in late July—it wasn’t crowded at all, although it was busy. I would recommend it for travelers of any age and it’s very accessible for those with mobility issues. Bonus: it’s free!

Must not miss if in the area

What a beautiful and unexpected surprise in Akureyri. It is hard to believe that these many species can grow in Northern Iceland. A must visit for any garden enthusiast.

Nice gardens
Jun 2021
These gardens are a nice oasis in Akureyri! There is parking right next to the entrance, and the cafe is located near there as well. There are signs to point you in the direction of the various gardens, and it's a great place to spend some time on a sunny day.
