I hate giving bad reviews, however, I feel it is necessary. We booked with Stable Stop before the pandemic. Like everyone, we were forced to cancel our plans because of the travel restrictions. I asked Anna for a refund, she said she couldn’t figure out how to do it. I suggest giving us a credit for future use for the following October (not knowing if they were in financial difficulties because of the pandemic). She agreed to this option. When October came, Iceland’s border were still closed. I asked for a refund at this time. She just ignored my several emails. I reached out to her again in July 2021 to use our arranged credit because we had an up coming trip in early August 2021, but she ignored my emails again. I tried to be sensitive not know if they were facing hardship, but she just completely refused to communicate with me. If you have booked with Stable Stop and you think you might need a refund, get it in writing or dispute the charge with your credit card company. I wish I had disputed the credit card charge, but I trusted Anna at her word…that was a mistake. I really wish things were handled differently. Buyer beware. If you want a wonderful Icelandic horse experience try Polar Hestar (ask for Selena) or Lava Horses. Sadly, Stable Stop was the only company we had negative experience with. All other vendors gave us a credit and we rebooked with all of them.

I had a great night / day with the lovely Malmquist family. The house is warm and immaculately clean. The setting is simply magnificent. The house is bordered by mountains and the calm of nature is very soothing. I went on a horse ride the next day, the horses are soft and well tamed. A very pleasant afternoon. I recommend !

I just stopped at the Ytri-Bægisá farm for a horseback ride. It is located directly at road number 1 and really easy to reach.
They gave me a really nice Icelandichorse and take me to the nature. The surrounding is stunning and I was able to try the tölt. Absolutely recommended this place!

We went riding through the great landscapes of Iceland and it was impressive. I would repeat it as many times as possible. In addition, the Family was lovely ! I totally recommend it.

I contacted Anna before our arrival in Akureyri, and she was so flexible in working with us to tailor an experience that we would really enjoy. She picked us up in Akureyri, took us to her stables, let us photograph the horses while she was saddling them, and took us on a nice ride, even though it was a very cold day! She included us into her family while we groomed the horses, ate lamb stew and tried some Icelandic delicacies. We had such a nice afternoon, highly recommend this experience when you are in Iceland. Thank you Anna and Halldor!

We loved riding Icelandic horses with Deacon at Stable Stop! It was a highlight of our trip to Iceland. We enjoyed trying the various gaits, and appreciated the helpful directions from the riding staff.

During our wonderful travel through Iceland, I felt it was a must to experience this overwelming nature on the back of an Icelandic horse! Because of unexpected snowfall we had to reschedule our appointment. This was no problem at all! It was a long time ago since I had been riding but Anna was very comforting. I enjoyed the beautiful ride! During the ride the communication was very good and Anna gave some usefull tips. During the 1 1/2 hour tour, there was enough time to enjoy the Tölt. Very special! Lovely people and very friendly horses. Love to come back sometimes.

Iceland as a whole is a great country. Landscape is picturesque with cascading waterfalls, boiling springs, hot springs, geysers, glaciers as well as land glaciers where you can go into ice caves. The world has only one volcano where you’re able to be dropped down into and that is in Iceland. Being dropped down nearly 400’ into that volcano and walking around at the bottom so was one of my favorite excursions. Taking a helicopter ride over the year 21, 22, 23 volcanoes was also an amazing experience. Visiting the hot spring cave that Jon Snow & Igrette of Game of Thrones was briefly filmed in was also an excellent choice. The privacy at Hvammsvik hot springs along with a cold ocean plunge is a must stop as well. There are just too many places to list. Iceland is a place that you have to witness to appreciate the true beauty. Horses and sheep cover the landscape as you travel along the country on Ring rd. horse population is something like a ratio of 1:4 residents. And sheep, you’ll be amazed at how many times you see a group of three sheep gathered together. So many times that you’ll wonder why. Lol
I would recommend no less than 10 days, more of you have the time and money. Iceland isn’t cheap but I’ll tell you it’s worth every penny. Did I mention the food? Fresh and delicious, and expensive. But we only live once on this earth so just do it. Visit Iceland and live to tell about it.

Anna Maria is very accommodating to beginner level riders. My husband had never ridden a horse before and had an amazing experience! It was sadly windy and cold but we still had a great time with the horses. Anna Maria welcomed us into her home and we had a meal together. It was a highlight of our trip! I would highly recommend Stable Stop as an option in or close to Akureyri.
