Located off Town Hall Square. Typical pub. Music rock metal but not too heavy or loud. There's a limited range of craft beers because of the times and reduced custom. I didn't recognise the ales so asked the bar man. Happy Hour was advertised but unhappily, not offered as the beer I was served was one of the most expensive at 1600 isk.

Bartender will give you a review of the beers, and we had a great chat about beers and whiskies, he is knowledgeable, my wife left me to it. The place is comfortable and small, a lot of local people go there to meet friends so it can't be bad can it.

We ended up at this bar at the advice of the staff at our hotel after we had eaten dinner. We were told Akureyri was a "sleepy town" during weeknights and she was right - as far as we could tell R5 was the ONLY bar open past 11:00.
The bar was full of mostly tourists, but the beer selection was phenomenal, and the bartender really knew his stuff. He was knowledgeable on all of the beers on tap and bottled, and had some great recommendations for us.
It was a fun way to spend a couple hours out late night during the week. We met quite a few fellow travelers and shared stories. The atmosphere at the bar made it fairly easy to meet and mingle.

R5 was a great place to stop for some local Icelandic beer! The bartender was very friendly and shared a lot of information about the beer and the micro breweries in Iceland. He also talked about the history and culture of Iceland which I really loved!

Came across this unexpected beer bar after having some fish and chips. Even better it was happy hour. Our bartender was super friendly and really interesting to talk to. Had an IPA from the Borg brewery there that was amazing, wish I could get it fresh in San Diego. Highly recommended if you're into beer or just want somewhere comfortable to have a drink.

Just arrived in Akureyri and headed for a nice looking bar. This place is a very cosy spot with a nice atmosphere and good beer, but the lady serving us on this occasion was sour in face and attitude with us. We asked a few questions about the different beers and got short, shrift answers. Such a shame as the bar itself is lovely. We'll drink this one and find somewhere else!

Great drinks, warm atmosphere, and exceptional hospitality!
Small bites that we tried — open small creative sandwiches with salmon and with bacon — were simply delicious 😋
Yes, highly recommended!

Lovely little beer bar. Quiet , cute and pleasant. The decor is inviting. We were here on a cruise ship. Doesn’t open until 5. Nice selection.
