About
Experience both Finnish nature and the tropical rainforest throughout the year! The collection of over 5,000 plant species is a living display of the diversity of the plant kingdom. In the 6 greenhouses, you will experience the heat and scents of the tropics and see species ranging from tiny groundcover plants to the highest trees of the rainforest. Ornamental subtropical plants bring a breath of Mediterranean air, living fossils take you to the past, and the drought-resistant succulents surprise with their ability to adapt. In the outdoor gardens (23 hectares), the landscape changes with the four seasons. There are flowering plants from April to November but, in the autumn, leaves change color and winters are amazing, too. Free entrance to the outdoor gardens!

There are 2 parts to this botanical garden: the tropical houses and inside parts for which you have to pay entrance and the outside area which is for free.
Inside is definitely way more interesting though in comparison to other botanical gardens nothing was outstanding.
Outside there is a big park, but actually that is pretty much it. No special compositions with few exceptions and very little information on the plants.
Somehow I expected more since it is situated quite a bit outside the town.

Went 14.35 to the cafeteria. Lunch until 14.30 but food still on the table. "Hello, do u still have lunch?" "Yes, why?" "Sorry was just wondering cause the display says until 14.30." "The display is wrong." "Ah ok. What do you have for lunch today?" "Go and look." .....silence...."ok, ill just have a coffee". Seriously? A grumpy lady that should not work with people.

My score of 4 reflects our overall visit to the island of Ruissalo, not just the Botanical Garden. Our visit to Turku coincided with the last weekend of operation of the ‘vesibussi’ waterbus before the winter. We used the water bus to reach the island so we could view the harbour on the way.
Many of the tourist operations on Ruissalo and the other islands are closing for winter now but we enjoyed a walk on the island, including around the Botanical Garden. It is a small area but there is a lot packed into it and there was plenty of autumn colour during our visit. We also saw some bird life (hundreds of geese on the shore) and a red squirrel during our visit. I’d recommend the trip when the waterbus starts running again next summer. In winter you can still visit by car or bus- but the island may be pretty bleak at this time of year I imagine!

The Turku University botanical garden is one and only most beautiful botantical gardens of Turku City ...situated in the Ruissalo a National Reserve, its a great place to visit, awesome scenic beauty, indoor and outdoors...Indoor showcasing flora and fauna from around the world...bringing whole world vegetation under one roof....from dryland/ deserts to wetlands from temperate grassland, to amazon rainforests... serene and calm ....and awesome closeness with nature, a feeling of being there, in that part of the world, one feels refreshed and mesmerised with awesome Gods Creation ..!!!

Everytime I have visited Botanical garden staff has been really helpful and joyful. We visited with friends just the cafe in March and had dog with us. The staff welcomed us to inside the café and really liked having dog there. If you want to enjoy cafe near Ruissalo stop here.

Few years back we were visiting with university student group there and had extraordinary guide, the head gardener Kasvi. We had payed only for hour but he keep telling us tales of plants over two hours.

This garden is really beautiful in summer but the inside garden has a lot to see over all year.

It is free to go see outside gardens and stay there. Inside gardens have a little entrance fee.

I loved the garden. There were names for nearly all plants also in Finnish language and not just the scientific name. Outside was free but inside you had to pay. There was discount for students but not for unemployed, which was a big minus for me. We spent there 3 hours and didn´t have time to see all. I will definately visit here again on summertime.

A nice and colorful botanical park in the beautiful Ruissalo worth a visit! :) You can easily get there by bus (line number 8). You can visit the outer garden free of charge but if you wish to visit also the inner garden with more exotical flowers there was a small fee for that. There is a small café also.
