Open: Tuesday-Sunday 11-16, Wednesdays also 18-20 The Sibelius museum is the only museum totally devoted to music in Finland. The museum building, designed by Woldemar Baeckman, is one of the most original Finnish creations of the 1960s. A selection taken from the 1900 instruments of traditional and art musics from all around the globe is exhibited. One room is naturally reserved for Sibelius´s life and work. During the autumn, winter, and spring seasons the museum hosts chamber music concerts on Wednesday evenings. The collections available at the Sibelius museum are of interest to both experts and ordinary music lovers.

A beautiful building offering a fascinating collection of musical instruments together with a rich and absorbing history of Sibelius' life and music. When not being used for concerts, the auditorium is used to play his music providing a musical backdrop to your visit. Really worthwhile.

Not being particularly interested by the history of music I did not expect much from this museum however the visit was surprisingly pleasant. The museum is split in 2 parts, the first exposing a collection of (mostly ancient) instruments. It is very well done and informative and an opportunity to see quire rare pieces. The second is on the life... More

The central location of the museum next to the cathedral is worth taking advantage of if you are in any way interested of the work of Finland’s national composer Jean Sibelius (1865-1957) who was born in Hämeenlinna and died in Järvenpää and got part of his inspriration from Finnish nature. There are also old silent films of him and his... More

This gem of a museum offers a quiet space to listen to Sibelius' music, learn more about his life, times and the development of musical instruments. I loved the elegant, grained concrete arcs framing the small open hall where concerts are sometimes held. We visited this museum after being at the opening night of the Sibelius week in Lahti celebrating... More

A great little museum. There are occasional concerts in the evening. There was a lovely recording of Sibelius being played in the small concert hall which was open in the centre of the museum

We admired this fantastic place, designed by Woldemar Baeckman. It is one of the most original building of the 1960s in Finland. The Sibeliusmuseum has very well organized collection that connects life and music .

Loved the exhibit ! I had really had no idea of what to expect. The exhibit explained not just different instruments, but the chance also to play a harpsichord. Wonderful music played in the background. Head/Earphones were available to listen to even more music/compositions. The display and explanations of his life were entertaining and yet informative. Plus all the displays... More

I went there for an exhibition and I quite liked it. It is relatively small, but interesting. Sibelius and his music just belongs to Finland! They organize concerts in there regularly during the year (cheaper for students) - check out their homepage for more infos!

Part of Turku pass, one of the reasons we like Turku so much. Concert was free, interesting, somewhat intense as Finns are very serious about their music.
