Husky sleigh rides
Aug 2019 • Solo
This is part of a shore excursion offered by the cruiseline.

After a week of visiting palaces, churches and old architecture it was a refreshing change to visit this indoor winter wonderland.

We arrived mid morning and were introduced to the facilities and suited up with gloves, boots, and snowsuit. We all made a beeline for the huskies. The ride costs €25 for a lap around the circuit. We were welcomed to pat the adorable dogs, but they were obviously keen to run around and were straining at the harnesses. There was one occasion they ran off with the sleigh before anyone got a chance to get in! Then they stopped and looked confused. Otherwise they were amazingly well behaved and friendly. Really the highlight of my Helsinki trip.

Once done there were other snow activities, plus free shot of vodka at the ice bar and a few igloos to visit.

All good fun and a memorable visit. Definitely recommend!

Hyvä luisto ja pito ja riittävän pitkä latu. Good place to practice if you're a beginner in the Nordic skiing

Indoor skiing hall
Nov 2015 • Family
Kivikon Hiihtohalli is an indoor skiing hall. There are two floors for skiing and a small (approx. 5 m) hill between them. You can find both traditional and skating cross-country tracks there. The length of tracks is 1050 m. Temperature of air is -3 C, temperature of snow is -1 C. Working hours daily are long, you can walk in from 8am till 9pm and ski till 10pm. Hall is usually open from September till February depending on amount of snow outdoors and number of skiers.

Skiing time is 3 hours at a time, and that's totally enough. Price includes also shower, sauna and locker in the dressing room. For a locker you will need a 1 euro coin or a token of the same size.

There's also possibility to rent skis, leave skis for maintainance and buy skiing equipment, supplies and waxes. To prepare skis the best means to use are Violet glide for skating skis and Violet grip for traditional ones.

In the same building you can find HopLop (children's playground), Winter World (snow attractions and activities), Arctic gym.
