The Helsinki University Library, Kaisa, is open to everyone. Interesting and airy architecture and a tranquil atmosphere. A nice place to relax for a bit.

Helsinki University Library has four campus libraries: the Main Library in the Kaisa House, Kumpula, Meilahti and Viikki Campus Libraries. The Kaisa House is located in Kaisaniemi and it represents state-of-the-art library architecture. The building is an 11-story red brick construction which is well engaged in the cityscape. So fantastic is this library that it’s probably worthwhile to take a detour from any near by cities such as Oslo or Copenhagen. If you can find a tour it would be worthwhile as this library contains so many amazing highlights that you might miss, such as a machine oriented are where you can actually print and bind your own book, a lively cafe, a children’s play area and an amazing ‘rest room’.…

Anttinen Oiva Architects won the architectural competition for the new main library at the University of Helsinki in 2008 with two of the objectives for the architectural design being spatial flexibility and visual connectivity between the floors. The Library was the most ambitious project of the Helsinki World Design Capital year 2012 and provides and beautiful and peaceful place to study, with works of art in key locations.…
