Square outside Central Railway Station
Nov 2019 • Solo
A square that sometimes has different happenings like festivals. In winter there’s a nice open air skating venue there.

Large Square which in wintertime has a ice skating ring.
Part of the central station Helsinki. It is also a secondary bus station.
During summer a Pub Tram leaves from the Square/ Mikonkatu named "Spårakoff" it leaves every hour.

Rautatientori: Central Railway Station Square
Jul 2019
Rautatientori is, in fact, a part of the whole city train station complex, along with Helsinki Central Railway Station.

The vast square is surrounded by prominent historic buildings, including beautiful Ateneum, Fennia, National Theater of Finland, and many others. The Clock Tower is a part of the train station building, and you can see it from a distance quite well. The square is always full of tourists, plus there are thousands of passengers going to the train station and coming out of it. There are a lot of regional and tourist buses parked at their terminals , i.e. at the perimeter of Rautatientori, as well as tram stops that are so convenient for tourists at this busy, central part of the city.

Would I visit this site again, if I am in Helsinki? Definitely!

Big Old Train Station In Helsinki
Jun 2019 • Couples
The Central Train Station is the major station for long distance trains in Helsinki and handles 400,000 people each day. It was opened in 1919 and replaced and older station. It is quite impressive but it still is a train station.

A classic that continues to serve well.

The Rail Terminal Square remains the "heart" of Helsinki although it is now more bus terminal than anything. But, as a hub it is very functional and as a public square it remains attractive, accessible, and convenient.

Railway square next to the central rail station
May 2019 • Couples
This is just a large gathering space which currently has a My Helsinki sign displayed but nothing else. From what i can gather is in the winter it may have a skating rink but currently is empty except for the sign. If you use the train station you really can’t miss this square but if not I wouldn’t necessarily seek it out.

Ice skating
Feb 2019 • Family
As mentioned by a couple of people, there is an ice skating rink in the square in the winter. Coming from the UK, outdoor city-centre rinks are usually awful. This is really good. The ice is properly cut by a mini Zamboni, it's a good size rink, there's a 'changing room' to sit inside and change into your skates, plus space to leave your shoes and non-valuables, and there's a cafe. There was no time limit on the skating, just a sticker to show you'd paid. We had our own skates, but noticed that the hire skates were CCM/Bauer not the plastic boots you get in the UK. We left our non-skater in the cafe with our valuables, and enjoyed a couple of hours skating in brilliant (but cold) sunshine, and returned again later once night fell.

Historical buildings
Mar 2019 • Solo
The ice skating rink closing this week is the main tourist attraction during winter on the square still used for bus traffic. The National Theatre and Ateneum Museum stand at opposite ends, the large former office wing of the grand Art Nouveau railway station is under renovation to become a hotel. The Casino has no entrance fee, you just have to register and leave your coat at the door. Popularly called " Sausage house" because of the wide concrete tier the City Center shopping mall has recently been revitalized with new shops and restaurants. The ground floor is a busy, sheltered passsge to the railway station and metro.
