This museum is located in an old industrial milieu on a beautiful stretch of river. The museum buildings were constructed as the first city water utility in Finland nearly 150 years ago.

The museum presents the history of technology and industry in Finland. It is the only general museum of technology in Finland.

The technology museum of Helsinki has two floors. The upper floor is mainly for children. There is a lift between these two floors and the lift is the oldest still operating lift in Finland.

There are some very interesting details in the museum, e.g. old Finnish Nokia mobile phones, Finnish electric cars and old Finnish living rooms. Most texts are in English, too. You may also visit an old sewage farm in a separate building but it is open only in summer. There is a small cafe in the museum.

The surrounding are of the museum is very interesting and beautiful. You find good walking routes and excellent photo spots there.

Place is located river side (Vantaanjoki). Place has been used many ways, taken water making it drinking, used water power making it electricity. Area has many buildings, what all are open only on summer time. When your buy ticket, keep it because other buildings ticket inspector want's see it. Only main buildings ticket office can process card payments. Visa / MasterCard family accepted.

Main exhibitions has 2 buildings, 1 what is freeze and another what change, these are open always. Old water power station has 2 buildings.

The Museum of Technology was located outside the main part of town. It wasn't difficult to get to but required a tram and a bus ride. Admission was free with the Helsinki Card. The museum consisted of several buildings, but only three were open when we visited. The Exhibition building contained a lot of electronics, but the only thing that I really found interesting were the old Nokia phones. It was fun to show the kids what our first cell phone looked like. The other two buildings, the Sludge Filtration Plant and the Power Plant Museum, were just unoccupied, former public utility buildings, that you could walk through and see old machinery, but there was no real explanation of what you were looking at or how things worked, and there was nobody around to ask. Overall, I wasn't impressed with this museum. Thank you for taking the time to read my review.

Visited this museum some twenty years ago, was OK then but really needs an update now. Information in Finnish only, and very limited. A lot could be done, for example old mobile phones: year of introduction, what generation etc etc. All in all mainly items on display without any information, so boring. Can't really recommend the museum.

Most of the text of the exhibits are in Finnish only. So, if you don't speak Finnish, don't expect to get much out of the experience. We used a translator app on our phone and it made a few things a bit more interesting.

They were renovating some areas, but for a "technology" museum, it felt like the "tech" was from the 90s and earlier.

But, I wouldn't recommend it unless you're already in the area.

When we were there it was free, so we couldn't complain about unreasonable entrance fees.

This is on the site of an old power plant, which you can also go through. There is an excellent history of technology on display, arranged in a very interactive way. A very enjoyable experience.

On a foggy morning in early autumn the place has magic qualities. The museum displays are somewhat haphazardly strewn inside the old water-filtering station. Hardly a leading motive to be determined. However, the power plant, both inside and outside, does not disappoint if you are into old machinery and industrial architecture from 1800s.

If you have an hour or two, hop into this museum and it will leave you enriched. It's a very good place to come with kids too!
