What is Helsinki Casino now, used to be ... many ventures - and names! - in the past.

Built in 1899, it was first called Hotel Fennia (from Latin: Finland), then in 1910 it became Grand Hotel Fennia, followed by Fennia Restaurant in the 1960s, then by Metropol Cafe ... Now it is The Casino Grand Helsinki. I went in (security on duty is at the entrance, inside), just to have a look at the interior - there are over 300 slot machines there, a separate poker room, function rooms for social events and shows. I didn't have much time to gamble.

Casino Helsinki is very particular - in a sense that it gives its profit to charities. For that only, it deserves respect and recognition.

What struck me especially was the exquisite, Viennese Baroque design of the Fennia part of the site by architects Grahn, Hedman and Wasastjerna. It is just such a gorgeous building, with a stunning, lavishly decorated facade that gives you a strong sense of history and architectural finesse. I took a number of photos - it all looks fantastic and very memorable.

Casino Helsinki is located in the very center of the city , next to Helsinki Train Station Square (Rautatientori). It's a very beautiful, popular, and very historic area of the city.

I liked the casino and the staff.

However, I lost my money really quickly and never went back.

Would visit again though!!

Went on a Saturday night and there were not enough tables for the demand. Many people left without a spot. Drinks at the bar expensive, however staff are friendly and talkative.

If you do not have time to travel to Vegas visit Casino Helsinki instead.

They have always the latest updated slot machines. If you are into poker, finnish players play a little bit differently.

Drinks are pricy, but that is the case in finland in general...

Slot machines, games, bars, restaurants, quite an amazing complex given the look from the outside. Identity strictly required before entrance. If your heart is made with stone and covered in leather material, I recommend. It is not for the fainthearted.

Central location with lots of new poker machines. Table games also offered, but not too many. Lots of bars and restaurants offered.

Make sure you bring your passport, or you won't be allowed in. They also take a photo of you as well upon entry.

One really weird thing is they don't allow you to wear a jacket inside the casino. They ask you to leave your jacket in the cloak room. Jumpers allowed, but not leather jackets. This left me a little bewildered, particularly more so considering Helsinkis cold weather.

Plenty of digital slotmachines (300+), some a bit cramped together. The entrance and cloakroom is free. First time an id card is required and a picture is taken. Eventhough the staff knew we were in the casino for the first time, no info was provided or proposed. The staff at the exchange counter was friendly and answered some questions. The person also offered to call a staff person who can give some extra instructions on some games if requested. At the roulette tables the staff said no words and seemed rather bored.

If you want to spend a few hours this is a great place to go. You have to show your passport the first time you go. They have about 300 slot machines and tables. It is run by the state and all the money they make goes to museums, things for children, and things to make life more interesting for residents. They do have a bar where you can buy a drink if you want one.

The staff were kind and polite, also didn't have to wait in a row to get my drinks. Reason for that is they had finally enough employees /staff, ( kinda fed up with Finnish lining culture, if you know what I mean ). Food was excellent ,very tasty , the servant recommended us a great option for a meal.

The variety of machines were good and we didn't have any problems with those , which is positive thing. Also the decoration was beautiful and neat.

Most surprising and most positive about this place was that all the income is going for charity.
Great night, will definitely come some day back again!

Thank you!
