We had a great time visiting Nuuksio National Park with Feel the Nature. We saw some amazing scenery hiking through the beautiful park and our guide gave us helpful context about the tiny birds still active in winter and the different vegetation that we could see. After a thoughtfully prepared break for tea or coffee we went to the reindeer park for a visit and feed. Some of the reindeer were still growing out their new antlers. The reindeer feeding was a great way to finish an awesome tour.

I recently went on the Nuuksio National Park canoe tour and I can't say enough good things about it or our guide Mika. He immediately made everyone feel welcome and shared lots of interesting information about the areas we were driving through. Once we got to the park, he gave us an overview of the day and taught us the basics of canoeing. Then we hit the lake! The area is absolutely gorgeous. The mid-day stop for a Finnish snack was really fun, and the pictures Mika took were unexpected but very much appreciated. Even though it rained a little during my tour, Mika helped us make the most of it and I would definitely recommend this tour if you're looking to experience a bit of nature while still staying close to Helsinki.

Ali of Feel The Nature picked us up at our hotel in Helsinki and was right on time.
He drove us to Nuuksio National Park, where he equipped us with snow shoes and poles. With them, we could walk across frozen lakes and up icy hills. My husband said he felt like the snow shoes gave him a superpower. They no longer look like old-fashioned tennis rackets. Instead, they’re probably made of fiberglass and they have metal spikes at the tips. Ali showed us berry bushes, fungi, lichen, ant hills, and places where grouses bury in the snow. It was not windy and we didn’t really feel cold with all the exercise we were getting. At one point, Ali prepared a campfire for us, served us hot lindenberry juice, and cooked cinnamon buns and karelian pies over the fire. Karelian pies are small Finnish pies made with rice, rye flower, and butter. He carried all that and actually much more in his backpack so he was super prepared for anything we could have wanted. After the hike, we went to a reindeer farm, where we got to feed reindeer from a bucket of lichen. Two in particular were really “lichen” it. We finished off our excursion with a trip to the Haltia Nature Center, which recreates the four seasons at the park on large video monitors.

Did their full moon night-time canoe trip in Nnuksio, during August when the sky was still twighlight at night. This trip was epic. Setting up this trip was smooth & seamless from an easy booking process & confirmation to a friendly phone call as I arrived near the bus pick up near my hotel in the city centre (to make sure I could find it ok). The staff were absolutely great, fun, and very knowledgeable about the park and the city. The van was very comfortable, even full of passengers---these included a few on business trips in Helsinki, and interestingly, several locals looking to make the most of their own city. They play this nature/background sound effects music on the ride up & back. It was only an hour or so from the city centre to the park. They gave a helpful lesson on canoeing before we started, that would have been helpful to newbies as well as experienced paddlers. Mid-way thru the trip, they made the most amazing crepes with fresh berries, fresh homemade cream, excellent tea & coffee & berry juice, all around a warming fire at the shore of the lake. A few of us went for a swim, and whilst "refreshing", not at all as cold as expected. The lake was like a mirror, a sheet of glass, disturbed only by the occasional group of swans. The summer twighlight sky was magical, as was watching the moon rise over the hills. On the second leg of the trip, we sat silent and still in our canoes for the longest time, it was just incredilbe how beautiful, and how peaceful it was. It was an amazing trip, and I can't recommend the Feel Nature staff and this experience highly enough. Thanks for a fantastic night!

This was wonderful--absolutely the greatest highlight of our trip to Finland. We did the half-day berry-picking and mushroom-foraging hike in Nuuksio and I could not recommended it more highly--it is a real can't miss! Our guide Olli was very kind and gave us great information about the berries, the mushrooms, the forest and Finland in general. The hike was beautiful. It was also a perfect level of difficulty, in that I (an experienced hiker) and my boyfriend (not much of a hiker at all and also who wears a leg brace due to a disability) were both able to enjoy it. I did not feel like it was too easy, and he did not think it was too hard! The park is beautiful and quiet, and the foraging was a lot of fun (as was the end of the hike when we ate what we had found, along with Finnish pastries and coffee that Olli brought). Don't hesitate for a moment about booking this activity. It is a must-do and I look forward to doing another excursion with Feel the Nature when we return to Finland in the future!

Dear Feel The Nature Team!
Over a month ago I made an enquiry about the forest cooking tour. We have decided that we would like to do the tour! However one question I have is that when it comes to booking the tour do you have to book it the month before or can you just simply book it on the same month as long as there's availability?
Kind Regards
Adam Matthew

Hello Adam,
Thank you for your request! You can book a tour as long as there is availability. Our berry and mushroom picking tour includes tasting and little cooking of foraged berries/mushroom but is not really a cooking tour but more hiking tour with foraging.
Best regards,
Olli

Hi! I'm coming to Helsinki in July and I'm looking for a nature tour in Helsinki where you're taken out to the woods to do wild cooking which involves picking berries, fishing, picking mushrooms, etc. Would you be able to help me with this? Thank you

My Husband and I will be in Helsinki for the day on July 5, arriving by ship, and are very interested in getting out of the city and enjoying Finland's countryside. What does a canoe trip involve with time and costs, and is there some hiking involved as well?
Thank you

Hi all, I am visiting Helsinki with my husband at the end of August this year and would love to do a day trip or an overnight stay at Nuukisio National Park. Can we combine the berry picking, hiking and sauna into one trip? We both love the countryside and would much rather spend more time by the lakes than the city. Looking forward to your response and suggestions. Thanks so much in advance. - Rashmi.

Hi Rashmi,
Thank you for your interest to our services!
If you want to stay overnight in Nuuksio, you can book our "Finnish Lakeside Cottage Retreat by Nuuksio National Park" program with additional guided berry picking trip.
For sauna with berry picking / hiking (day trip) you can book our "Finnish Lakeside Sauna Experience in Nuuksio National Park" with 1h longer stay so there will be time for short hiking and berry picking.
For berry picking and hiking you can book our "Berry picking and mushroom hunting in Nuuksio National Park". If you select 1 h extension we have more time for hiking too.

Hi Stephen,
Thanks so much for your feedback. We're planning to go at around the same time next year. Can I ask, did you have snow while you were there? Also do you think that the tour is suitable for kids (aged 9 and 11)? Many thanks. Sue

I took this trip in this year around end Aug. The arrangement is nice but no snow. My Son, just 8 years old, also enjoy this trip. It should be suitable for kids more than 8
