This is an oasis close to city center: a nice and calm place to have relaxing walk. Make sure to check the different parts/sections. There is also popular path following the shoreline at the south and west parts of the cementery: a nice stretch to include to your jogging tour.

A beautiful and well kept cemetery in Helsinki invites visitors to stroll through this large cemetery that serves as the final resting spot for both the famous and common people of the area. This cemetery park, as many cemeteries around the world, provide a unique glimpse into the past as you stroll past graves and read the inscriptions on the... More

This is the main cemetery of Helsinki. The area is by the sea and it is quite large. It a brisk walk from the center but one can easily reach it by public transport. It is very peaceful area to walk around and some of the memorials are very beautiful. Many famous Finnish artists are buried here.

This is a must see place in Helsinki. Old cemetery, they have different parts and I think most interest parts are: old orthodox cemetery, artist hill and war cemetery. Come here and spend some hours wondering around. Trees, squirrels and beautiful monuments.

We stumbled across the Cemetery by accident - which s crazy as it's huge - we were staying in an apartment across the main road, and wanted to get some fresh air on Christmas Eve as most of commercial Helsinki was closed. We thought we were heading to a "park" with a beach. It was truly magical - which seems... More

Many famous Finnish people have been buried here for example most of the late presidents. Lots of history and guided tours also provided. Very beautiful place to visit especially in the summer time. Also lots of friendly squirrels and occasionally rabbits. :)

Beautiful example of an extremely well maintained, historical cemetery in Finland. You can enjoy a walk through the open air corridors in this large cemetery and feel the peaceful atmosphere, take a look at the monuments and old graves taking you back a century or two in time. Beautiful surroundings by the seashore.

I usually go there because I like to take a walk among the tobstones (some are very monumental)...and yes it's a graveyard but it is immersed in the nature. So yeah it's worth to stop by.

The Hietaniemi Cemetery is a beautiful example of peace and showing respect for the ones who have left us. It's situated just next to the sea which makes it a very pleasurable experience for a quick walk.
