We stumbled across the Cemetery by accident - which s crazy as it's huge - we were staying in an apartment across the main road, and wanted to get some fresh air on Christmas Eve as most of commercial Helsinki was closed. We thought we were heading to a "park" with a beach. It was truly magical - which seems... More

Many famous Finnish people have been buried here for example most of the late presidents. Lots of history and guided tours also provided. Very beautiful place to visit especially in the summer time. Also lots of friendly squirrels and occasionally rabbits. :)

Hietaniemi cemetery is very large, well-maintained and full of history. Such a peaceful and gorgeous way to look at Finnish history. You can spend hours there. It is interesting and very important cemetery. Highly recommend.

Beautiful example of an extremely well maintained, historical cemetery in Finland. You can enjoy a walk through the open air corridors in this large cemetery and feel the peaceful atmosphere, take a look at the monuments and old graves taking you back a century or two in time. Beautiful surroundings by the seashore.

I usually go there because I like to take a walk among the tobstones (some are very monumental)...and yes it's a graveyard but it is immersed in the nature. So yeah it's worth to stop by.

The Hietaniemi Cemetery is a beautiful example of peace and showing respect for the ones who have left us. It's situated just next to the sea which makes it a very pleasurable experience for a quick walk.

One of Helsinki city oldest cemeteries. A quite peaceful place to walk on. Many different parts with very old graves and newer one. In this cemetery are many famous people buried as Marshal Mannerheim and President Kekkonen to be mentioned. If you have time and desire so the cemetery is worth visiting.

At my first visit I thought it was a park! Because there was Rock the Beach festival near here. And people were walking or jogging along the paths alone or with children or dogs. Really peaceful and calm place.

Beautiful cemetery, if you are into that sort of thing, more like a park, with wide paths and plenty of space. Seems to be quite busy, but I would recommend getting in amongst the gravestones, some of them are close to 200 years old.
