Senate Square is a great hub to catch various tours and trips to other parts of the country and city. It also where the Helsinki Cathedral lies and also several museums. I think it is a good starting point on first visit to the city.

I love squares with trees, but this one is very beautiful, with a big staircase to the Cathedral. If you are lucky and you go there on a sunny day you will enjoy it.

The Square is designed by Carl Ludwig Engel (German from St. Petersburg) dispatched by Alexander II (Tzar on the middle statue). Looking down from Helsinki Cathedral, you have Senate Building on your left, University of Helsinki and National Library on your right. National Library is known for its fine collection of Slavic books. This will be part of your visit... More

Well, you get a nice view of everything, but the place don't have much life like others europeans squares. It's the nice spot to take your selfie soooo, it's always full of buses and tourists.

Senate Square is quite impressive. On the night we visited, hoards of people were gathering for the LBGT celebration.

A visit to Senate Square is a must do while in Helsinki. Although a busy dropping off and on point for tour busses, there is plenty of space and photo ops. Make the climb up the stairs to the Helsinki Cathedral for some great views while you're there.

A not to be missed part of visiting Helsinki. This beautiful square is a city focal point and great photo opportunity. It can get busy but on a equity early morning it has stunning architecture. A few local restaurants are close by to for the authentic Finnish experience.
