Finnish war hero, president and one time officer in the Imperial Russian Army sitting on his high horse has now a new work of art for company. Danish artist Nina Beier uses recycled materials to create something lasting and formed the group of females from abandonded statues. The constant flow of their tears while standing in a shallow pool reflects our troubled times.

The Statue of Mannerheim is near Kiasma Art Hall. Looks klike it is part of Art Museum. Good oldfashioned statue.

Marshal of Finland Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim (1867-1951) is a very important person in Finnish history. He was a Finnish military leader and the 6th President of Finland.

A bronze equestrian statue was made for him and unveiled in 1960. The statue is made by Aimo Tukiainen and it stands on Mannerheiminaukio Square. The statue is on a 6.3 m tall granite podium. The statue itself is 5.4 m tall.

Kiasma, Museum of Contemporary Art is located next to the statue.

General Mannerheim led the groups in our wars against the Soviet Union in 1930's and 1940's. We were able to keep our independence. The statue is in a very central place near to railway station, House of Parliament, the Opera and shopping area.

This guy is rated the saviour of Finland, leading the White troops during civil war and Finnish army defending against Russia in WW2, short time president and a kind of polished image of a soldier that nobody can argue about. Maybe correct. The Helsinki statue is one of the few erected for him. Others been e.g. in Mikkeli the "war capital" of Finland. You can't miss this one.

Completed in 1960 it's a great and impressive monument to a revered soldier and statesman. At over 5 metres tall, atop a podium over 6 metres in height, its impact is imposing.

I think it is apt that the modern Kiasma gallery is adjacent, neatly illustrating the realism of the statue contrasting with the innovative gallery architecture. Furthermore it epitomises the remarkable progress Finland has made since Mannerheim's time.

There was a huge 2017 Pride parade going on the day we attempted to see the statue. It is close to the bus station and easy to see. It was a wild day.

Marshal Mannerheim is an iconic figure in Finnish history: there is none like him. He lived an incredibly colourful life. (His home is now a very interesting museum in another part of town.)

His statue means a lot to a lot of Finns - but as such, it really is just another nice statue of a man on his horse (Mannerheim by the way absolutely loved his horses and was a real horseman).

However, you will most likely walk past the statue anyway, so take a stop and have a look at it before you continue on your way.

This statue/monument of Mannerheim who was a officer in top position and later also the country's president. Showing him on his horse ready for going into a match. There are a museum also who are all about Mannerheim Close to the Olympia Harbor but that was closed under my visit. That is also the last Place he lived. Straight behind this statue there are a museum called Kiasma contemporarymuseum. 100 meter from Railway station. Mannerheim was born in 1867 and died in 1951. Birds have done the top of the statue dirty first time I saw it I was thinking for myself someone should have cleaned it in respect to him. Nice statue of a big man.
